Unless I've forgotten in the several months since the last V1 update, the V1 applications from the Affinity Store do not automatically update on Windows. They check for updates daily, and if you choose to install an update you are directed to the website to manually download the application, then you manually run it to install it.

The current V2 applications from the Affinity Store also perform the daily check, and if you agree to an update they download and install automatically.

    Exactly.

This is very good, as soon as I can install it properly I'm gonna buy all three. It's exceptional software.

There's one issue for Serif to consider: I didn't actually know V2 existed until I visited the site to see if they were even still alive. I was in the habit of starting V1 programs daily to check for updates, and it had been a long while since the last one. I understand there's a difference between updates and upgrades, but a "V2 Is Now Available!" pop-up would have been helpful, as there may be customers who don't realize V2 is out.

I got the popup with all three V1 programs, and an email.  I really don't get it why you were not notified

Because 99% of my use of APhoto is selecting images in XNView and hitting Alt 2 (the shortcut in that application for APhoto that I assigned). That doesn't work with V2 if there are spaces in either the path or filename. Photo v2 just gives me a bunch of error messages.

And the shortcuts created by dragging the icons from the start menu to the desktop aren't visible to other standard applications. The shortcut I manually created is visible, but the result when I try to pass data to it is above. For me, to use PhotoV2 in the way I've become accustomed to using every other application I have used for the last 20 years is the issue. It is not worthwhile to have to open V2 separately, then navigate to the drive>folder in question, then reselect all the files I had already selected in my image manager, then open them. It may seem trivial to some, but it isn't to me.

I'm not trying to pile on the Serif, I've enjoyed their programs. But if their soon-to-be solution doesn't let me function in the way I've outlined, it's not worth my time.

I never knew there were so many photo managers in the world until this thread.  I never heard of any of them but I downloaded and installed most of them to check them out.  Now I see the problem with the workflows for most people.

But why didn't Affinity-Serif release their own in this V2 version like ACDSEE, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and other big programs have?  I use the first two for that and not Lightroom because it is not worth the monthly cost to me.  Or the thumbnails in Windows.

Okay - I will try that.  I wish I could remember how I got things sort of working a while ago.  I was able to draw something small without too much difficulty, keeping the cursor in AD from going all over the monitor and outside the document.

    Thanks!

You can define an area smaller than the entire screen / monitor. Select "Portion of screen" from Screen area combobox in the Wacom Properties app:

It might take a bit of trial and error to get it exactly right but it looks like it should work.

Doesn't work.  Besides, my tablet is tiny. I need all of it.

When I click "Click to Define Tablet Area" (#2), the pointer cursor disappears and goes to the taskbar.  I think it is a calibration issue but Googling does not find anything to help me with my One tablet.

    Thanks

I have installed all three on windows 10 today, none of the including the one 2 minutes ago gives me the choice of what drive to install on, all go under c:\Users\username\.affinity.

    What am I missing?

Walt told us how to do it.  I forget where it is located but you can specify what drive apps get installed.  My three are on my E drive instead of C.  You'll have to search for the post.

  7. Thank you.  But I can not restrict the area I want to draw in. I do not want the cursor going all over the place.

I will re-add Designer 1 to the software and see if that helps.  Maybe that is how I got it working in the first place.

And of course, I cannot add V2 without some hacks :-)

I am back to using V1 programs any ways.

  8. No I wasn't there but safe home alone in Montana with my two dogs and no mask 🙂  Since all of the family was there, and I doubt the local brother-in-law went with them to the museum or whatever the place was that the picture was taken at, they must have asked a tourist to take a picture using one of their phones.

I know what you mean by looking at the mask thumbnail.  I did see that sometimes (when I was probably doing something right!).  But I need to watch your video of the flower again in slow motion because clearly I saw the discoloration of the flower.  And study the histogram.

    Thanks so much!

  9. Thank you!

I turned off the WB layer and see no difference.

Just my thought about my mother-in-law.  She is so alert for 89!  I may never see her again.

I have a friend who is a professional photographer and videographer (almost all outdoor stuff and some home show stuff).  I told him about AP and he said his tip is to get the photo right the first time!  He only uses Lightroom occasionally.  Mostly for categorizing his work.

By the way, I never did see the white paint when I was using it.  I am going to have to retrace my steps.  I know I have had this problem with AD a few times before but mostly it was dumb stuff like not selecting the correct layer.

  10. Thanks so much!!  I think I see an additional white balance layers in yours.

Their hair looks so much better when I turn off and then on the group.  I closed out AP, reloaded the file I sent you and then I could see the change that I did.  I do not think I saw that until I closed all files and reopened it.  Got me!

I am going to study what you did and print out this entire thread.

The lady in the blue in the center is my wife's mom who just turned 89.  My wife is on her left in the white and the other gals are her daughters.  Five girls and no boys!!!  Her poor dad!  🙂 Only one daughter had kids and guess what they were?  Three girls, no boys!!

The picture was taken in Delaware on her 89th birthday.  She and one of the daughters are flying out here to Montana to visit her daughter (my wife) next week.  So, I have been struggling with making that picture look better for a frame as a present to my mother-in-law.

Thank you smadell and NotMyFault!  I have learned a lot!

  11. No, the recolor is not red and the brush is not painting on the mask as far as I can tell.

I hate to keep feeling like a pitb because I am missing some steps or doing them in the wrong order.  I attached the aphoto file in case that will save time and frustration for you.  I hope you do not mind. And another screenshot.
