avo got a reaction from SPaceBar in Strange deformations by corner tool
in my first example i used Segment tool, which is cool for making quick half-circles. Here i add another example, where i made half-circle by subtracting rectangle from  circle, like you mentioned. Still see the deformation in rounding of a corner. You couldnt round second corner cause it is a smooth point somehow, it must be converted to sharp point - then you can round it.

    Addendum: have added page 2.

Addendendum: have added page 3. This is all for now, cos I'm back on an animation job for the next two weeks  :(

Another addendendendum: have been animating for the man for three months and have finally got back onto this. Page 4 added!
I have missed working with Affinity. How's that iPad version coming along?

    Hi!

I made a simple template for my everyday web-design needs, which i'm glad to share. It contains five pseudo-artboards which are Desktop, Tablet Landscape 1024, Tablet Portrait 768, Mobile Landscape 480, Mobile Portrait 320. They all have semi-transparent grid over them so you can start quick.

I think templates like this are good to emulate artboards untill we have real artboards in AD and are just nice way to start your design projects.

Will be glad to know what you think of this template, any suggestions are welcome. Feel free to modify it in any way possible.

    Hi,

I’ve been playing with the smart nodes. It brought to mind a technique used by some Flash animators and designers to create characters or props for animation. The idea is to start out with a very simple geometrical shape — a  rectangle. (In Affinity, you would then need to make the primitive shape editable by clicking the Convert to Curves in the context toolbar.)

The next step is to add nice curves to the boxlike object. Smart Nodes let you do this simply by clicking and dragging with the node tool anywhere in a line between two existing points (nodes). This can be used to create economical, stylised graphics. It can be quicker and more intuitive than adding nodes and adjusting direction handles.

I’ve seen some very attractive designs done in this way using Flash, and the viewer would never guess their humble geometric origin… Usually the artists work from a scanned pencil sketch.

Used new for me method of inking - vector brushes without any pressure sensitivity at all. You just create the shape you need and make a brush out of it. Having some brushes made in this manner results in nice and natural looking inks. The reason for using them is actually better predictability of strokes and much higher speed. The brush engine just does not spend time calculating size and opacity variability and you get much faster inks. For many inking tasks this is more than enough.

Have you been using this method? How you feel about it?

I did notice the speed improvement. Even though they cannot be expanded. I am sure it's certainly a useful technique for raster work.

Just built a few brushes using your technique..interesting method and it is certainly quick and smooth. Also gives you the option of adding 'distress' (irregular edges) to a brush. Something that would be very useful.

The only downside is that you do not appear to be able to expand the stroke!

Since I bought Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer before xmas, I have not been using any of my (many) other paint programs much. There is such a nice natural flowing feel to the Affinity brush engine, especially used together with DAUB's brushtips. Some examples here.
Thanks for great software at a price, poor artists can afford!
