  1. I want to post a question but the forums I can access are limited to three : tutorials, sharing, and resources. I cannot access any other forum to ask a question although was able to post a question some time ago; have no idea how I did it. I am moving from PagePlus X9 to Affinity. I am very competent with PagePlus but am totally lost here. I have two immediate problems (in addition to not being able how to post to the right forum). First, in PagePlus there was an asset called 'backgrounds'. I used it on the front and rear covers of the journal I edit. I cannot figure out how to do the same thing in Affinity Publisher. Second, while I was able to set the default font and size in a text frame, menus have defeated every attempt. The font works, but the point size always returns to 12 -- I want 11. So, can someone help me find where and how to post these questions?
  2. John and MEB. Thanks! I was able to do what I needed to do. Ever so simple once you understand what is going on. I did not know about the move tool. I think my problem is solved. Mark
  3. Hi John, I tried. but once I drag and drop, even after rasterizing, the cut off piece remains stuck. I have attached the four items (1) Master -- I want to add the flaw to it. (2) The flawed stamp -- I take a clipping from it. (3) The clipping from the flawed stamp I want to add to the master. (4) what Affinity looks like after I have rasterized -- the clipping layer and the background are stuck together and trying to move the clipping moves the clipping and the master together. I know I must be missing something simple here, but I do not know what it is. Thanks, Mark
  4. I am sorry but I do not understand even how to start what you describe, never mind carry it out. For instance, when I drag and drop the cutting to a background in Affinity, I cannot move it to the correct position: it sticks to the background and when I try to move it, the background moves with it. Also, I have no idea what rasterize means nor how to accomplish it. I figured out each step in PhotoPlus by myself through trial and error because I found it intuitive. I cannot even get started with Affinity. I know nothing about graphic terminology. I have no idea at all what you are talking about in your second sentence. What I need are step by step instructions similar to those in my PDF. I appreciate your addressing my problem. Thanks for trying. Mark
  5. I have been using PhotoPlus for years to compose my books about stamp collecting. The most important aspect has been the construction of visual index to flaws found on certain stamps. I have attached a PDF showing how I do this in PhotoPlus. I have not been able to figure out how to do the same thing in Affinity. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mark visual index.pdf
  6. That looks beautiful! I will try it. Thanks especially for the screen shots as I have never used Affinity Photo (working with the Trial to see if I can master it enough to be useful.
  7. Hi Alfred, I regret to say I have no idea what a layer blend mode is or how to produce one. My skill and information levels are rather low. What I have used PP X8 for is producing a composite image by applying layers of flaws found on different stamps to a single master as an index of variations. That is about it. Can you be a bit more specific? You can see what I do know here, on page 16: https://czechout.org/test2/dove-10.html Mark
  8. I have to collect clear black and white images of thousands of postmarks, black on a white (or transparent) background, taken from cancelled stamps. I have tried to do this on PhotoPlus 8 but have failed. The interface here is far more complex and I have no idea where to start. A sample of what I have to work with is attached. The resulting images should only be the black postmark with no image of the stamp at all. Please remember I have no experience with Affinity Photo at all. Thanks, Mark
  9. I just moved from PagePlus where I could select paragraph alignment, select 'hanging', and set the indent for the second and subsequent lines in the same paragraph. I could do this in a table and in fact need to do it in a table with Publisher. Looked at all the 'hanging indent' answers but they all seemed to be talking about something else. How can I make a hanging indented paragraph in Publisher?
