Saku reacted to davidlower8 in Exporting multiple files at smaller sizes
    Hi,
In the export persona there is a feature to increase the size of the file/slice being exported. The little plus button gives you the option to x2, x3, x4 the slice. However I am finding that I rarely want to export to bigger size but rather export to smaller. For example I'll be working on a full size raster image, but I would then want to export that at 4-5 different sizes - but all smaller from the original full size version. I can not see how to do this in the export persona area. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

    Hi MEB,

Do you know a way of creating new presets for the slices?
Example we have the 100w that correspond to 100 pixels wide.
Is there a way to create a preset to export the slice to 800 px width?

    Thanks

First of all, thanks dor all of your exports. Unfortunately these solutions are not even close to my expectations from workflow side; Alpha is still visible or per channel view is colored and contains alfa info (or becomes transparent if I switch off alpha); I have to deal something else now, but I try you get back ASAP and make a video about PS and AS comparison; maybe that helps more. I even don't understand logic of the macro/procedural system in AF with 25+ years experience in working and helping developers in 3d field (it is like one of the Iray implementations I saw; I could work instantly with any node based shader editor system like Unity/Unreal/Cycles/Redshift, etc.; but Iray... I gave up understanding the logic inside - also it lacked up to date documentation).

So thanks, I will be back.

    SOLUTION:
    1) Paste as new layer, make it the top layer
    2) Right click layer > Rasterize to Mask
    File > Export
This is a different workflow to what I was used to in PS, but I think it's more flexible because you can optionally have a bunch of layers above or below the mask layer all with their own transparency that will contribute to the final exported alpha channel. ALSO you can have multiple mask layers that all contribute to the final alpha channel.

Why do this workflow so hard. What's wrong with copy/paste workflow ? The photoshop way . With this workflow we're doing too many clicks for a simple operation .
    What's wrong with :
    Step 1. Open image
    Step 2. Ctrl+A -> Copy Image
    Step 3. Select Alpha channel -> Ctrl+V - Paste
    Step 4. Save

As a hobbyist, I was careful to buy lifetime licences for software. I didn't realise this just meant for the lifetime of the current version, which with some software appears to be about 2 years. Clip Studio Paint are doing exactly the same thing with their new version. I don't mind paying occasionally for good software, but I do mind being conned into thinking "lifetime" licences meant longer. The appeal of free open-source software such as Krita, and Blender is drawing me in. I'm not adverse to paying an upgrade price from a previous version, but for software I use on-occasion, I won't be taking the current offer. When I get around to possibly needing to use Affinity again, the price will probably have gone up again, so it looks like I will remain an occasional V1 user. Loyalty lost!

Even though I have all 3 Affinity V1 programs (and two licences for Affinity Photo!) I see no upgrade path to V2?   What happened to brand loyalty or are we all set for a an escalator of V2, V3, V3, V4 when 99% of each program is the same as previous version?   I notices SERIF has STOPPED development on the V1 suite many months ago when updates ceased so I was expecting new version but DID EXPECT NO  UPGRADE PATH?
I think we should be told.
Is not a series of V1, V2, V3, V4 the same as Adobes continuously licensing but presented in a different manner?  You underestimate the intelligence of your customers.

It is kinda annoying that I bought into 3 programs that they offer for Publishing, Vector, and Raster editing.
They have decided to halt those product, and introduce new products that fill those same needs.

Such self-important arrogance. If this is the kind abusive, do-it-our-way-or-sod-off response people can expect when they come here for help, maybe I should stop recommending Affinity software.

Just to clarify, can you only resize the selection with the handles on the center of the edges of the selection?
For example if I have a blueprint of a car and I want to refine the selection in the rear view to the bottom of a tire, I have to zoom out enough to see the center of the bottom edge of the selection to actually drag the handle instead of zooming in on the tire and dragging the edge there?

Just wanted to offer some user feedback here. I'm a long time Photoshop user attempting to switch to Affinity Photo, as I am a software engineer and not a full time graphics professional.
I just spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get those 'resize handles' showing up, and kept thinking that I must be an idiot.
Hearing that it doesn't exist is tough. It's one of the most useful features I used in photoshop.
It's actually almost enough to put me over the edge from not making the jump to Affinity.
I'd highly recommend reconsidering the decision not to implement that.

It would be very useful and intuiitive to have resize handles on a marquee selection, I appreciate the transform panel gives a precise resize option, but dragging to resize can be more helpful depending on what you are working with and trying to achieve.

It's pretty clear you don't know what Wine is. Or Unix for that matter. Or how FOSS development works. I'm afraid you could not even define what an operating system is actually...
Also, how do you know what Serif would be happy to do or do not? Do you work for them or just spend a lot of time trolling using the forum?

How can you say that ?

What is professional about a system with dozens of different distros written by amateurs?

It is not professional because you can't buy it off the shelf, can't contact the producers, can't take it to a repair shop, can't find training schools and can't buy professional software.

A business needs to buy the systems, buy the software, have it maintained/repaired, get staff trained to use it and get on with their own business (making money). You just can't do that with Linux. The only people who can really use it professionally are internet companies and so forth, but they have to employ a full time programmer to use it.

Don't get me wrong, I like Linux and hate Windows but as I said before, Linux is of no use to a professional. Well, unless you are a large company with a full time programmer on the payroll or unless you are a geek.

Linux users also like to think they are virus free but there are viruses. There was a bad one reported recently that affected Linux and Android 6. Forgot the name. And of course there are all those home devices and hubs that run Linux and get cracked.

We all know that PCs are a pain but at least there is plenty of good, professional A-V software like Bitdefender or Kaspersky. In 30 years I've never had a problem I just keep my anti-virus software up to date.

If Linux ran airlines it would be a budget choice.

You could fly across the Atlantic on a scheduled Airline on a Jumbo Jet or an Airbus for a "reasonable" price, or you could go for free by Linux Airlines. The plane would be made by anonymous groups of people working in their bedrooms using secondhand parts. There may or may not be a qualified pilot, but someone would turn up, eventually. You would have to load your own luggage into the hold and cook you own meals. It would fly sometime next week. Probably.

    Tough call

That's what I found. I got there eventually but it is absolutely useless for professionals. They can't afford to waste that much time just on an OS and anyway, a lot of them aren't necessarily that technical. Many still don't even understand DPI !!!

For a professional, it is much more cost effective to buy something that you plug in and use, with back-up and training. Fiddling around with Linux would be a financial disaster.

It's also about training and backup. Where do you go to learn Linux (even if you should have to) and which version of Linux? And where do you go when you get the equivalent of a blue screen ?

As I said, Linux is basically a toy for geeks.
  18. Confused
Saku reacted to toltec in Affinity products for Linux
Well, it's OK but that is what most people use it for.

Take out internet use and servers and what good is it?

Are there any professional photographers or designers using it ?

I wish things were different, I hate Windows
