I work on a project now where there ie so many files to be created (about fifty) and the have to be in the right order.
    To do so, my artboards are divided in 4 categories : A B C & D hence my artboards renamed A1 A2 A3.. B1 B2 B3 etc.....
Therefore I spend a lot of time renaming artborad. Is there any way to bach-rename? Or at least edit the convention 'Artboard {n}'?
On windows you can press F2 to rename (cannot find a way to set up short cut for renaming in affinity). So if you select 50files and you press F2 you type "NEW NAME" and all the files will automatically be renamed NEW NAME (n). Would be nice to be able to do the same thing with artboard.
At least when I'm renaming a artboard (or layer or any object), it would be nice to be able to rename the next one by pressing tab.

Hi all! I have a suggestion born in an issue:
I would like to have a tool that can automatically rename multiple dartboards following a previously defined pattern. Think about in the middle of an creativity attack and without planing you did several artboards, hundreds or who know, thousands and you have all with default name or even worst, you did them copying or duplicating the first... At the end of the day you expect to use export persona to generate definitive files and realize you'll spend lot more time renaming the artboards than the time used to create art... frustrating, no matters if is user failure or not.
That is!, I'm sure will be very useful, even more considering I still have 7 thousand artboards to rename between multiple files

Automatic renaming of layers and artboards
When copying artboards several times, they are added with the same name. Often this ends up with many artboards with the name "Artboard1".
Artboard names are for example important when exporting, so they should have unique names
I need an option which, after selecting layers or artboards, would allow me to give them a name with consecutive numbers like
    CustomName 01
    CustomName 02
    CustomName 03
    ...
It is very uncomfortable and time consuming to manually edit this for 30 artboards.

I agree, something like this would be great to have.  I am running into the same issue of having to compile all of my SVGs into the SVG/Symbol format.  It would be great if AD did it for us.

This would be a great feature for people using Affinity to create SVG web icons. SVG supports symbols, which are basically re-usable bits of SVG. For example, given this SVG file:
    <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"> <symbol id="artboard1" width="10" height="10" viewBox="0 0 10 10"> <circle cx="5" cy="5" r="5" /> </symbol> </svg> You can use it in a page as follows:
<a class="button"> <svg class="icon"><use href="/images/icons.svg#artboard1" /></svg> <span class="text">A button with a circle.</span> </a> Currently, Affinity exports artboards as transparent rects with an id when exporting an entire document. It would be awesome if we could instruct it to export it artboards as SVG symbols (like the first example), effectively turning Affinity Designer into an end-to-end sprite/icon sheet editor.
Bonus feature: an option to export artboard names (outside the symbol element, positioned near it), so that the same sprite/icon sheet can be used for documentation (example: font-awesome).

I am adding support for SVG sprites to one of my website frameworks. I'm loving the fact that in AD I can export all the individual icons as SVG in situ from the designs supplied, rather than having to assemble them in their own separate document. Being able to select each layer, create a slice and then adjust that slice's dimensions if I need to is fantastic.
The end result is I get a lot of separate SVG icons.
Then I expended a lot of energy installing Node, Grunt, SVGO, you name it in order to do the following:
Optimise the SVG files Create an SVG sprite Copy all the individual icons into the sprite as symbols I realised it would have been SO much easier if AD (or AP) offered the ability to export selected slices as a sprite. I thought that might be what the Continuous checkbox did, but alas, no.

For reference, my starting point for this was this page: https://24ways.org/2014/an-overview-of-svg-sprite-creation-techniques/, the section beginning HTML INLINE SVG SPRITES (specifically the latter section dealing with external sprite.

It would also be advantageous to me if the style="fill:#HEXCOL" could optionally be dropped on each element on export as it prevents styling the elements with CSS.

Thanks for making a great app even greater.

0125 got a reaction from walt.farrell in Black showing as dark gray in black/gray/white mini swatch
Hello Walt. Indeed, it shows CMYK = (0/0/0/100). While what seems to be true black on screen is composed as CMYK = (72/68/67/88).
So, I guess it's expected behavior, which I simply didn't pay attention to before. Strange, anyhow.
I can live with it and will leave it with this. Thanks for your input Walt!

That should be a pure Black that is 100K, with 0 for C/Y/M.
A pure Black in CMYK generally will not be as black as a Rich Black that uses a mixture of K, C, Y, and M. You need to pick the Black you (and your printers) actually want for your project. Beyond that, though, I'll defer to someone else for more details.

I do most of my drawing in Adobe Ideas on my iPad, which creates compound vector shapes, which I then use the Live Paint feature in Illustrator to fill in. It makes colouring extremely quick and easy.

Is there already, or is there a planned equivalent for Affinity? It's basically the only thing stopping me from making the switch from Illustrator to this, as it's a really nice app otherwise.

    Many thanks!

Publisher works great for creating uniform slides or graphics using placeholders and other useful features.
In Designer, it‘s possible to rename the artboards and give each artboard an individual name which is the used to define the filename of the batch-exported file (via the Export persona).
It would be great if it was possible to rename pages like artboards in Designer and the file names of exported images via Export should follow those names.

Why not go all the way then and also have :

    Select same
    · Stroke width, colour, opacity or noise
    · Object width, colour, opacity or noise
    · Corner type
    · Corner radius
    · Font
    · Text size

(I suppose that's what ronnyb meant with “etc”  ;) )

Having said that, it is probably a good idea to apply some common sense here. Do you really need to select the same corner type, for instance? Then again, once AD has proper (as in “linked”) character, paragraph and object styles, you could just do a “select same style” and have it all…

That would explain it - as you're not going through the File > Open window, it will be using the last folder you were in. There is an improvement in with development regarding this - I'll get that bumped with them.

Please could you urgently address these features as I believe they are most vital for technical work.
It would be a great benefit to have a one click operation for the path offset and make guides function exactly like Adobe Illustrator.
    Thank you

0125 reacted to Horseflesh in An "offset path" function as in big bad Illustrator would make my day
I use Designer (and Illustrator, and even Inkscape) at times to make shapes that will be cut out on a laser cutter.
If I want to make pieces that are sized correctly to press-fit into each other, it is necessary to make the piece that goes inside the hole very slightly larger than the piece that you originally cut out of the hole. If you don't do this, the piece you plug in fits too loosely, because the laser vaporizes a stroke about 0.007" wide.
Illustrator's Offset Path function is perfect for this "kerf compensation" operation--as well as having many great uses for illustration, I am sure! With it, I can set an offset like +0.008" and then use the miter and join settings as needed to make sure that the new path matches the shape of the source path.
I don't think there is a way to do this in Designer, so right now I have to detour into Inkscape or Illustrator, which sucks.
This is my most-desired feature addition.
In the meantime, if anyone has a trick for using existing Designer tools to produce a very precise amount of offset, I would love to hear about them.

0125 reacted to Chiefmonkey in Roadmap and an Update of these Feature Requests - Blending Shapes, Shape Tool, Offset Path
    Hello Support,
I'm a laser cutter and crypto artist and I make things like you can see in the attached image.
I've purchased both Affinity Photo and Designer.
The three main functions I need in any Vector Software are:
Blending between Shapes e.g. from a Circle to a Square with ability to set number of steps in between  Shape Creation Tool as in AI (I see you have boolean operators but these are seriously cumbersome to use in comparison to AI's shape tool) Offset Path e.g. click a path, click offset path (I did a workaround of duplicating my stroke, then on one increasing the Stroke to 20pt then Expanding the stroke, then removing my original stroke/shape away from the new expanded stroke... a ridiculously long winded way of doing it) I've seen requests for these features going back to 2014, which is really quite worrying.  You use to have a roadmap but thats disappeared.
My question is this... are you still working on any of these features so many people have requested? It would be great to see them on a Roadmap...
Can we have some transparency on when these features will (or will not) be worked on?
I've looked all through the forum for answers but found nothing (apologies if I've missed it) but fluffy answers like "coming soon", "any day now", or "it's in the roadmap"... clearly these don't cut it and date badly looking back at them (somebody wasn't being 100%)... straight forward, honest answers would go a really long way.
Can you please bring the Roadmap back? (it's at least something)
    Chiefmonkey
