I'm having exactly the same problem and the app is generally very glitchy at the moment (High Sierra). It's pretty much become unworkable now for me.

I have mentioned this to the company several times but nothing has changed. When you save an Affinity Photo file and then immediately want to export it as a jpg to the same folder location, Affinity does not take you there. It defaults to a previous (irrelevant) location you have used. You have to start again to find the location of the folder you literally just created to save the Affinity file. So frustrating and the only app or software I use that does this. Using Mac OS 10.13.6.
