I'd find this very useful. Also a 'collapse all groups'.

Olly Wright reacted to Customer Feedback in Affinity Designer - Basic Layer Management
Hi @Yves Signer
Yes.
It was an unwanted and very unpopular surprise for employees during the evaluation of Affinity in my company that you can't search for layers in the layers panel.
It's such an elementary design flaw that it's a real showstopper. 😞
What has been a puzzle for us is that Affinity is designed to handle thousands of layers with good performance, but the scenario of finding one layer among many, many layers is not considered at all. This perhaps indicates that there are too many engineers involved in the whole development process. This is a mistake the rest of the market has been moving away from for decades, so it is sad to see here.
We are very surprised that developer time has been allocated to putting colours on layers, but not on a search function. Banal colours are no help when working with hundreds of layers or even more. After over 20 years with Google, search is impossible to get around. Having to click back and forth is simply not good enough in 2022.
An example from Adobe where you can search by layer name and other attributes. But just being able to search by name in Affinity could have been a reasonable first implementation.

It would be very nice if you could collapse all layers at once in the layers panel. Layers become very difficult to work with when you have many of them since selecting objects expands the parent layer, so you have to scroll back up and manually collapse them yourself.
Perhaps you could have it so that layers are only expanded for as long as the item within it is selected? That way, after deselecting an object, the layer expansion goes back to its previous state, which is ether expanded or collapsed. Am I making any sense?

Olly Wright reacted to Sean P in Unwanted lines appearing only on print-out
Thank you very much for letting me know! Glad it's printed out perfectly - printers can be a bit of a nightmare at times. Enjoy your games and lovely painted miniatures too (from a WH40K player)!

Thanks again for looking at it. I'll try it on a higher end printer in a local print shop and see how their drivers handle it... it certainly does seem like it could be a printer / driver issue.
I'll also try the flatten preset and see how it goes. As long as I can distribute the file itself vector but also with some instructions for the receiver(s) to get the right print results it'll be fine.
I'll also look at how I can potentially adapt the file to reduce the likelyhood of this kind of issue.
I'll post here if it discover anything more.
No need to take the images down - they might proove useful to others.

Thanks for the file! Interestingly I'm not really getting that much of a line with that shading on the floor, however I am seeing a lot of noticeable boxes between objects. I believe this could be happening when the Filter Effects layers are rasterised when being sent to the printer.
On Windows the Print dialog has an option to 'Rasterise' the entire page on print to avoid print issues such as these. Unfortunately the Mac Print dialog cannot offer this option so it has to be done manually. If you select all your layers and then group them, you should be able to temporarily Rasterise that group and send the file to the printer. This should allow you to work around the print issues. Although don't forget to undo the Rasterise after you've printed!
In the meantime I'll pass it on to development to see if anything can be done to avoid these issues.

A pdf has no concept of stroke alignment. The screen shot below from an AI pdf has 3 rectangles. Top used alignment to the Middle, middle rectangle to the inside, bottom rectangle to the outside.
Only the top rectangle survived as a stroke for a rectangular object. But do note the extra nodes on the bottom rectangle. Illy sucks in certain respects and this is one of those.

Olly Wright got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Introduce Yourself
I'd like to congratulate the developers. I work in the design industry: my first design software included Illustrator '88, Photoshop version 2 (pre-layers!), and Aldus Illustrator (became Macromedia, became Adobe, then died). I've used a lot of design software. With Affinity I think you've bested the ancient Adobe apps with price, performance, features and usability, and produced world class software. And I'm in love with Pixel Persona in Designer.
Keep up the great work, thank you for letting me escape the 'Creative Cloud'.
