A_B_C reacted to Andy Somerfield in [NO ACTIVE BETA] Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.8.3.180 - GM Seed)
Status: GM Seed
Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
Mac App Store: Submitted
Download ZIP: Download
Auto-update: Available
Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the final build of Affinity Photo 1.8.3 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.2 version recently released to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
Affinity Photo Team
We are moving to release candidate stage early for 1.8.3, due to the discovery of a bug which prevents auto save from working in most circumstances. This bug can cause significant loss of work for users and is classed as extremely high priority. Once 1.8.3 is released, we will be back with 1.8.4 betas relatively quickly.
Changes This Build
- Fixed issue whereby layers clipped at to embedded document would not get clipped.
- Alignment tweaks.
- Further Boolean op tweaks.
- Fixed misidentification of Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary when mounted on a Canon camera.
- Help improvements.
Changes Since 1.8.2
- Fixed rendering issue with small radius filter effects.
- PDF export fixes.
- New document from clipboard improvements.
- Defringe filter improvements.
- Boolean op tweaks from Designer.
- Assorted small crash fixes.
- Assorted small performance improvements.
- Fix for autosave not working on anything but new documents.
- Fixed cropped result when creating a selection from a mask.
- Fix issues with live filters making layers disappear.
- Fix embedded documents not rendering at specific zoom levels.
- Try to import PSDs with non-standard vector origination data.
- Small terminology fixes (Exif -> Metadata).
- Fixed sporadic crashes with procedural texture UI.
- Silenced PSD import warnings which don’t affect the import result.
- Fixed develop steppers for noise reduction.
- Assorted other small fixes.

A_B_C reacted to Ash in We want to help
Hi All,
Unfortunately, we are hearing many stories from the creative community about how they are being severely impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know we can’t solve a lot of these problems, but we do want to try to offer as much support as possible.
That’s why we’re announcing three measures that we've just put in place. They are:
A new 90-day free trial of the Mac and Windows versions of the whole Affinity suite A 50% discount for those who would rather buy and keep the apps on Mac, Windows and iPad A pledge to engage more than 100 freelance creatives for work, spending the equivalent of our annual commissioning budget in the next three months (more details of this will be announced next week). The introduction of the 90-day free trial and deeply discounted pricing is done in the hope that this will make life a little easier for people who rely on creative software to make a living, but may be stuck at home without their usual tools, or for students who might not have access to their Affinity apps on their personal devices. In addition, by increasing our spend on commissioning work from freelancers we can also put some extra money into a part of the industry which will be particularly affected.
We plan to make the free trial and additional discount available until 20 April, but of course we will continue to review the situation as time goes on.
We have put posts on Facebook and Twitter about what we are doing if it's something you would like to share.
We're now all working from home
In terms of the team here, we have all vacated our Nottingham offices and are now working from home. Naturally this is causing us some disruption, but we continue to type code and expect to carry on making good progress with our development efforts.
Support is a bit trickier though. Firstly, we can’t accept inbound telephone calls right now, and there are also going to be challenges for our staff to work their normal full-time hours – especially with imminent school closures in the UK. We’re obviously going to do our very best but hope you will understand if we are not as fast to respond to email as usual.
Of course, if a question you have is something which could be answered by our community, then we’d also greatly appreciate if you put that here on the forum rather than contact us directly. It would definitely help us out a lot.
Frankly it’s hard to know what to say or do in this unprecedented situation. But more than anything else, we want to use this opportunity to wish good health to you and your loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
All the very best,
Ash

Dear Affinity,
Graphic designers do need Footnotes AND Sidenotes ! (please don't do the same mistake as IDCC where you still need an unofficial script to create Sidenotes ...)
Why ? Well .. because footnotes/endnotes/sidenotes are a vital feature for every academic publications, and basically a vital feature to every graphic designer.
Thanks a lot

A_B_C reacted to PaoloT in Footnotes/Endnotes
I hope they will get the opportunity not to implement it as in InDesign or any wordprocessor. Notes in a creative publication are not always at the foot. They are sometimes in the margin, in line with the reference.
I hope Affinity can do something new in this area, starting from the analysis of the best art books.
Paolo
EDIT: Sorry, I saw only now the post above, saying the same things, but better.

+1 : And to that I would add the option to -finally- get the option to use numbered footnotes and asterix footnote in the same document. (a game-changer to me)
In a nutshell: a Word-like management of footnotes/endnotes (to finally work seamlessly and feel flexible !). Awaiting for that before forcing my team to transition to use Affinity only !

LOL … Mike … that’s what I was about to suggest. Great to see you again. 😀
Cut.mov (In the video, I used existing nodes to break the curve.)

-
A_B_C reacted to Alfred in Cut a circle
The Donut Tool would give you a curve which doubles back on itself, which obviously isn’t ideal, but either that tool or the Pie Tool will give you a useful starting point. Choose ‘Break Curve’ option with the Node Tool to isolate the unwanted portion so you can delete it.
Edit: Typing (much!) too slowly, I see.
-
A_B_C reacted to Gear maker in Cut a circle
To work around, make sure your circle is converted to curves. Then in the node tool place a node where you want each break. Then select these break nodes and click on the break curve. Then they will be individual curves. That will allow arrows either or both ends of curves.

A_B_C reacted to ReinhardJ in Soft proof & Separation
Hello, there is a cool solution for CMYK separation-preview: You go to Photo-Persona, then go to channels and select the appropriate channels. When you go back to the Publisher-Persona, the selection is kept.

A_B_C reacted to Fritz_H in Option to remove the hints at the UI bottom
Some time ago I reported to Serif, that in certain situations the (german) text in this status bar is too long to fit on a screen which is 2560 pixels wide..
I suggested to change this bar into an un-dockable floating window/panel which can either be left docked at the bottom or be undocked, resized/reshaped and even be moved to the 2nd screen.

Check out the trick described here:
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/84387-hide-the-bottom-status-bar-that-shows-the-hint-text/&tab=comments#comment-445972
It still works … 😀

A_B_C reacted to Bubily in Option to remove the hints at the UI bottom
I don't know about Publisher but in Designer and Photo that entire bar is used only for hints and it's killing off a solid piece of screen estate on my laptop. When I hook it up to my 4K screen it's not a big deal but it's still completely useless to me and just plain ugly. Option to disable that whole bar would be perfect 🙌
