I can't remember who originally posted this video for making a clock face.

Oh, that seems to be me, Paul … ;)

But let me add, I replaced this video by another, correct one soon after my upload. As you will see, in the first video (which is the one you posted above) I flipped the Roman numerals at the bottom: which is weird of course, since you will end up with a clock face where six numbers appear mirrored. So in order to correct that mistake, I replaced the video by another one ("Clock.mov"), which can still be found here:

    Hi RMJCreative,

    and welcome here …  :)

That should be pretty easy. Select the Move Tool and hit Document Setup … on the context tool bar (or choose File > Document Setup …). Then go to the Colour tab of the dialogue, check Transparent Background and click OK. That should work.

Please could you take my vision seriously. First fonts become so small you are forced to keep buying new machines with Retina. I got my iMac 27 inch in 2013 and it is not Retina. I've had to make the resolution 2048 instead of 2560 just so I could see the tiny icons and stop getting close to the screen just to see what I'm doing with all that dark workspace. I've tried turning the brightness up in preferences, but there is only a subtle change. The icons are tiny or not bold enough. I've turned everything up to largest and brightest - looks like I have to be treated as an accessibility client!

Most images and illustrations are medium to fairly light. So the contrast is too great. E.g. have you ever tried looking at your phone in the sun? Please see this as not so much a feature request, but more like an occupational health and safety one.

I really do like using Affinity. However, I wish I could see the interface better.

Thanks, Alex and MEB. My point about the help system still applies but I've got it now.

When you 'open' a PDF in Photoshop, it rasterises it before you can do anything else, according to settings which you can change in the dialogue box, so it is already in what Affinity calls a pixel layer and you can operate on it directly. In the case of digital images of newspaper pages, these contain only a single rasterised image or a paste up of a number of rasterised images and (if they have gone through OCR), one or more text layers.

In Affinity Photo, a PDF opens as an object in its own right and you are in charge of rasterising it. I see the point because PDF files can contain a variety of different types of image and text and Affinity Photo can edit vector images directly, without rasterising, so you wouldn't want to rasterise the whole file if it contained vector images which you wanted to edit. The same might apply to text though the newspaper page I was working on didn't appear to have a text layer, or if it did, I couldn't see it in Affinity.

Any chance of a tutorial on PDF editing? You're probably going to tell me to buy Affinity Designer ....

    Hi IanfaeAiberdeen,

    and welcome here …  :)

Suppose you open a PDF document in Affinity Photo. Then you will see that Affinity Photo interprets the PDF data, creating text boxes, vector shapes, image layers etc. as faithful as possible to match the content of your document. But the marquee selection tools do only work on pixel layers, so you either have to choose Edit > Copy Merged (Shift+Cmd+C) and then Edit > Paste (Cmd+V) or to merge the layers Affinity Photo has created into a new pixel layer before copying, e.g. by using Shift+Opt+Cmd+E (merge all visible layers). More merge options are present in the Layer menu.

    Hope that helps. Cheers,
    Alex  :)

Blisteringly fast.  Svelte in use.  Fully featured.
Taking advantages of all the Mac's features, software and hardware.  This is what a 1st rate focused developer Mac app should be...  No 2nd class citizenry here!

I couldn't resist buying Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer with their current promotion pricing.  Absolute steal deals.

Congratulations on Affinity Designer getting an Apple Award for Design excellence.

Having took both apps for a quick test drive...they are brimming with potency.  They bring a cutting edge competitive quality to the Mac design space and app community.

The Digital art Mac legacy, with Affinity, is in safe hands.

By the way, 2 years worth of free updates?

I'll take a look at the SVG problem - we certainly don't ever want it to be crashing so we'll sort it out asap! Thanks :)
[EDIT] - Just looked and it has already been fixed for the next update/beta version (hopefully we'll be able to bring out the beta version next week?)

With regards to the iOS version... I'm one of the few people that would ever be in a position to give out estimates for when it would appear... and the other people who might make that decision are sitting either side of me... and we've never told anyone a thing about when we might have it available, so take that estimate you've seen with a pinch of salt. It may be much closer - it may not, but 2017 sounds like a long time away to me... you know we work faster than that, right? ;)

As I said it was only experiment and I did with purpose.
I am working actively on my iPad but because there isn't for now Affinity Designer for iPad, I am using iDraw, exporting in PDF and opening in Affinity.
I was trying if there is a way back - from Affinity to iDraw - when I discover this issue.
Now here is my though: I read in Webdesigner Depot that Affinity for iOS will come at earliest somewhere in 2017. So is it possible (if it is at all) in some of the future updates to include compatibility for iDraw, since quite many people are using the app.

I am fully aware that this might be too complicated or not profit-wise or whatever (there could be thousand reasons) but I just felt I need this mobile option and that's why I am trying now what will work best.

Affinity is the best anyway!  :D
    Cheers back  ;)

I just updated my Adobe CC apps to the new 2015 version, and opened up a file, only to see it render in what appears to be a worse, more aliased view. So then I opened it in AD to check how Affinity renders it, and it renders better than AI! Here are some screen grabs to show the difference. Pretty amazing. Great job Devs!

    Hi svetoslavpp,

yes indeed, your document crashes …  :(

EDIT I removed the gradient information from your mask, tweaked the gradient and was able to export your file one time, as witnessed by the SVG below … but oops, when I redownloaded my upload and tried to export to SVG, it crashed again … sorry …

Maybe the developers can shed some light on this strange issue … cheers, Alex

    +1 for light UI.

For a simple test I took a screenshot of the Affinity UI, pasted it in a document and inverted it.

It looks very nice, only the icons look a bit distorted. But all lines, brush samples, text is perfectly fine.

    Hi JDW,

with the Corner Tool selected, you can draw a marquee around all corners (nodes) you want to round. You can Shift + click to select individual corners (nodes). Now after you have transformed your corners, you can choose the corner type, and it should be sticky. Have a look at my video … should be pretty self-explaining …  :)

A thread which is going on forever now and I have no idea what Affinity is planning on doing..
It's all a matter of priorities is what I understand to be the official statement.

I must say that the older one gets, the harder it is to adapt.. (eyesight is getting worse by the day)

All these discussions about how cool dark interfaces are and that Adobe has them and Apple is implementing them as well drives me nuts!

A nice bright/neutral interface hasn't raised one eyebrow the last 20 years or so.. and now there is a four page thread where people are complaining because someone thought up something 'refreshing'
What a waste of time and effort..
Affinity Photo (and Designer) needs to be #1 and it really has the potential to become just that.

So, please... PLEASE! Make it top priority to change the interface and make your (older/pro/experienced/nagging) customers happy!

    Thanks
