  1. Aha! My IE is ancient, and I haven't used it in years. Why in the world are you forcing people to use that horrible browser? That would be the problem. Is there anywhere I can make it just use the default browser? I have Firefox (needs updating), Chrome, Opera, and a fourth browser that all work fine. Oh, and I tried changing my Windows Firewall settings to allow Photo and Designer access to the web. It didn't work, though perhaps that's also a problem. Yep, just checked, and my IE won't even open. No clue why, and that works fine for me since I trust it least among browsers.
  2. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. And the Designer > 1.0 > Settings folder is still empty.
  3. I've posted about this before, but I haven't gotten a response on part of my problem. I've also discovered new aspects of the problem. My Affinity products, both Photo and Designer, fail when trying to access the web on my box. It means that Designer crashes on opening. I can open Photo, because I followed very helpful instructions to get rid of the splash screen on opening. Which I really appreciate. I think this problem is also related to why accessing Help fails, but I could be wrong. It definitely told me that it couldn't access the web when Photo's Tutorial menu option failed. Trying to access "Welcome" in seems to have frozen Photo. I'd really like to fix the core problem and get Photo and Designer to a fully operational state on my box. Is there anything I can try? Any information I can share that might make solutions more apparent?
  4. Thanks so much for the welcome and the reply! Nope, unfortunately, no error message. It shows the little graphic splash with an image and loading information like, "Loading fonts..", pulls up the basic app window, and closes in about 1, 1.5 seconds. Woot! That does help! Thanks so very much! Yay! I assume I can do the same thing with Designer? Ooop, nope, apparently not. There's nothing in settings there, and I'm still having the same problem there.
  5. Hi. I'm on Windows 7 and both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer are crashing on open. After reading some threads here, I found I could open Photo by opening an image. From reading those threads, I think the issue is the splash screen. Unfortunately, they only said this was fixed by reformatting the computer. I really don't feel that's an acceptable solution for me at this time. Does anyone have any other solutions?
  6. Hi. I just bought Affinity Photo and Designer, and I'm having the same problem on Windows 7. It just starts and crashes. After reading this thread, I tried opening an image directly, and that worked. So I think it's that splash screen. Just out of curiosity, why is it pulling from the web? I'd like to be able to use my software even if my connection is down. Reformatting my computer and having to reinstall everything would be a highly problematic solution. I'm hoping that someone has a better suggestion.
