I'm having the same problem as henryb. I tried your workaround but it does not work. An error box pops up saying Unable to Save Changes for "Edit in Affinity Photo"

I use a MAC. The OS is Catalina. I use Photos and Affinity Photos. After opening a photo from Photos in the Affinity extension I find I cannot SAVE the photo back to Photos. When I click on SAVE nothing seems to happen. I am able to SAVE AS an afphoto file but that's not what I want. I want the edited photo to appear back in Photos. When I use the Silver Efex Pro2 extension with Photos the saving function works perfectly. So it appears something is wrong with Affinity Photo.
