HydroJLW reacted to James husted in Bring Image trace (image to Vector) to Affinity Designer.
One of the only reasons I have not gone completely to Affinity and keep an old copy of Illustrator CS6 is because of the image trace function. Converting of bitmap/raster images to vector artwork is a mainstay for logo designers. Having to manually do this in Designer is a real drag.

HydroJLW reacted to Mekkano in FEATURE REQUEST - Proper vector brush support
It’s a necessary feature
without it i cant use affinity designer as a professional tool for my work
I am very disappointed by this serious shortcoming
Please seriously consider implementing it

Could be Baseline Grid settings, perhaps.
Or could be something else. It might help to enable Text > Show Special Characters so we can see what you're using to separate/space the lines now.

@HydroJLW, the little + sign means you have overridden some settings in your Table Body Paragraph Style.

HydroJLW got a reaction from Dan C in Text/Curves Transparent on Export - SVG
Hi Dan,
Thank you for getting back to this - Yes, the issue seems to be with Vistaprint and that particular style of card...just sod's law that that was the first style I tried. I tried playing around with their own online designer and the elements I added were treated the same way, so it must just be the set style for that type of card. Glad all ok on the Affinity side of things!
Thanks again,
Jack

Thanks for your file provided @HydroJLW!
I can't see any specific issue with the layer setup to cause this to occur when using Vistaprint - as mentioned above I'm not seeing the same occur when viewing the exported SVG file in Affinity, or other applications.
If this is only occurring when uploading the exported file to Vistaprint, you may want to speak with the Vistaprint support team to understand why / how their software is interpreting this SVG incorrectly.
I hope this helps

HydroJLW got a reaction from k_au in FEATURE REQUEST - Proper vector brush support
Hi,
Apologies if this has already been requested - I did search around for a while for this, but there were a lot of varied results.
I would like to request proper vector brush support. I feel like this is probably quite a fundamental feature for a lot of people and would be a highly valued addition to the Affinity suite (which I really like, by the way!)
Thanks,
Jack

HydroJLW reacted to NathanC in Reset all nodes
Warp Group > Mesh would be the best way to go here as you've mentioned. 🙂
Hopefully we'll see simplify paths/curves added in a future update (No news to share though, sorry!).

HydroJLW reacted to NathanC in Reset all nodes
Hi @HydroJLW,
You could try selecting all the nodes via CTRL/CMD + A or marquee selecting them with the node tool, and then using the 'smooth curve' function along the context toolbar, this should remove nodes from the curves but it is intended to create a rounder effect, meaning that the curve's likely won't match their original appearance. There have been requests previously for a dedicated Simplify curve feature similar to what Illustrator offers but I'm not aware of any alternatives currently.
Might need a bit of clarification on exactly what you want to achieve by adding nodes outside the group?
Many thanks

HydroJLW reacted to Boldlinedesign in Real Vector Brushes
I'm really hoping Affinity updates to allow true 100% vector brushes to be more editable and relevant in future releases. What are currently labeled "vector brushes" are not 100% vector and cannot be expanded as vectors. They have their uses and I appreciate them - but in my line of work, I need to be able to export 100% vector - no raster in the final output.
Right now we can only modify the 100% vector brush to a simple taper on each end - As I have attached to this post, there are many other types of tapers and such I'd love to be able to do with a 100% vector brush.
Going a little further - I'm hoping for a blob-tool that can allow for any shape to be made and used -

HydroJLW reacted to Johannes in Feature Request: Creating Vector Based Vector Brushes
Please add the ability to add pure vector based vector brushes based on vector objects for texture instead of PNGs.
For now we can only add pixel based vector brushes.
Being able to add pure vector brushes based on vector objects would allow us to create vector based textures and designs, which would be much easier to handle for any kind of (print) production.
For example I tried to separate the colours to a spot colour PDF for screen print from this awesome work by Pierre Kleinhouse made for the Affinity Work from home series
https://youtu.be/lL6gc8Oi2uw .afdesign file on DropBox: https://affin.co/LD2020PierreKleinhouse
It was sort of a nightmare. I couldn't find a way to create a vector based spray texture within the Affinity Suite like in the second screen shot with the chimney.
Expand stroke, working with spot colours, working with boolean operations ... a lot would be easier.

SVG settings on File > Export...
For PDF, SVG and EPS file formats:
Rasterize—select an option for rasterizing design elements which are unsupported by the file format. Select from the pop-up menu: Nothing—no elements within the design are rasterized on export, therefore unsupported elements are not included in the exported file. Everything—all elements within the design are rasterized for a resulting exported file which perfectly matches your original design. Unsupported properties—only unsupported elements are rasterized in the exported file. Downsample images—select whether to downsample raster images within the design. Above—if this set DPI is exceeded by raster design elements, those elements will be rasterized down to this set DPI. This option is dependent on the Downsample images option being active. Use document resolution—ensures the export is the same DPI as the current project's setting. Use DPI—overrides the current project's resolution setting for the export. The exported image's DPI is set using the adjacent input box Allow JPEG compression—when selected, rasterized design elements will be compressed to decrease exported file size. If this option is off, rasterized design elements will be exported as uncompressed. For SVG file format:
Export text as curves—when selected, the text in the resulting file will be drawn as curves (therefore displaying precisely as intended, even if viewed on a device without the used fonts installed). However, this option will increase file size, and text won't be editable as text or available to "text to speech" in other apps. If this option is off, text will be exported as text and the viewing device will need the used fonts installed for it to be viewed correctly. Longer text spans—when selected, text is placed relative to previous lines of text (therefore producing smaller file sizes and simpler file structures). If this option is off, text is placed with absolute coordinates. Use hex colours—when selected, colours in the exported file are expressed as RGB Hex values (therefore reducing file size but less human-readable). If this option is off, colours are exported as standard RGB values. Flatten transforms—when selected, transformed objects are 'fixed' in the exported file. This allows for the file to be viewed more accurately across applications. If this option is off, objects remain dynamically transformed to allow for more flexible editing. Use tile patterns—when selected, rasterized areas may be converted to a vector shape with a filled bitmap to give smoother, sharper edges. However, this might not be supported by some apps. If this option is off, objects will exist as singular elements within the exported file. Set viewBox—when selected, the exported file includes coordinates and dimensions which define the view box of the image. If this option is off, no view box data is included in the exported file. The export area is used to define the view box. Add line breaks—when selected, the code in the exported file will be optimized for human viewing and reading. If this option is off, the image will be exported with code on a single line which will make the file size significantly smaller. For SVG and EPS file formats:
(Use) Relative coordinates—when selected, objects in the exported file have relative positions for maximum editability. If this option is off, object positions are fixed to create a file which is optimized for viewing.

HydroJLW reacted to v_kyr in Export SVG with merged layers
You would need to add all curves first together and then export the resulting layer as an SVG. But it should be clear to you that when you geom add all curves together that they will be all the same color (stroke/fill) here.

HydroJLW reacted to Oufti in Any way to perfectly align handles?
This is what I would have done, even with the shape as it is: I would cut vertically in the center, then mirror an half and join it back.
In v2, there is the Knife tool that's handy for that:

HydroJLW reacted to thomaso in Any way to perfectly align handles?
There is no option to move the handles of several selected nodes "synchronously" … or to move handles of different nodes at a time at all. Alternatively there are various possible workflows:
A. For symmetric objects another workflow would be to create one half of the wanted object, then copy + flip this and merge the two curves / join according nodes to one common node.
B. If you prefer to drag the node handles the various snapping options may help + display guides and sizes. Also creating custom guides as snapping axis or cross point. Instead of custom guides any extra object (e.g. rectangle) can get aligned with the wanted object + used as snapping edges for the node handle dragging.
C. Another option in your shown example would be to copy + move + edit the black ellipse to achieve the gray object.
D. Finally a special feature of "auto-node-adjustment" may be useful in your situation (unfortunately I don't know the true / official Affinity name). Therefore you select certain nodes of the object to edit, –> select a "target" object (not its nodes), –> drag one node onto one of the target and hold a moment. This will move the nodes + their handles as "copies" of the used target object without changing the unselected nodes – like so at 1:05 min …

There is a way in V2 using the Scale Override options in the Transform panel, but it only works for 'aspect correct' scaling.

HydroJLW reacted to Ash in We are live, and thank you!!!
Hi All,
We have just made 2.2 live across all App Stores and our website. As always, the feedback we have received from you all during this beta has been an incredible help in both shaping the new features as well as squashing many bugs!
The build we have released is the same as RC3 (build 2005), meaning for the time being whether you use the latest beta version or switch to using the release version they are the same. If you anticipate taking part in the next beta you may wish to keep your current beta version installed, as this will be updated on auto update when a new beta is available. This will either be a 2.2 patch if we feel one is needed, or moving straight onto a 2.3 beta.
It would be impossible for us to do what we do without your support, and I just wanted to say a huge thanks for everything you have contributed to this release.
All the best,
Ash
