  1. No. I'm saying the iPad version worked when working with the bad file. I was able to use it to output a PDF (which was my end goal), though it wasn't perfect but it was workable (the iPad version missed some features I needed). The iPad version and Windows version of Publisher both worked with the bad file. Only the Mac crashed. So if you're looking for a solution, if you have access to an iPad or Windows machine, it would be worth trying them.
  2. Unfortunately not. In the end, from what I recall (it was almost a year ago), I managed to output a useable though imperfect PDF from the iPad version, based on what I salvaged via Windows. It was marginally better than losing the whole project. On the plus side, I have continued to use Publisher every day (I was too invested in it in terms of number of projects to switch back to InDesign), and this problem hasn’t occurred again on any other project.
  3. This is phenomenal - thank you! I've just tried it and it works a treat. Very intuitive, and super flexible. You guys never cease to impress with the work you do on this wonderful suite of tools. Thank you again.
  4. Yes, exactly that. As a concrete example: if you were generating an exercise book with questions and answers (or a quiz book, or similar), you could have all the answers in one data file merge file, including anchors, and all the questions in another data file, including links to the answer anchors. That way when you generate the final file, each question could link to the relevant answer later in the document.
  5. Just updating this thread for completeness...I tried cross references in the 2.2 beta and unfortunately it doesn't resolve this particular issue (which admittedly is probably quite a niche requirement!) The extra data merge features in that beta almost do it, but as it doesn't seem possible to add anchors with data merge, it doesn't quite get me there either. I think I'll have to resort to a custom post-processing script or something.
  6. This is great. Is there any chance, perhaps in a future version, of being able to add anchors from a merge file too, so that it then becomes possible to include document links (bookmarks) from a merge file? i.e. to be able to generate relative links within the same document (like I've been trying to do in this thread)?
  7. That's what I was afraid of. Manually is not an option though - literally thousands of pages to do, and too much scope for error apart from anything else. I fear I will have to investigate alternative software solutions.
  8. I’ve been tearing my hair out for the last few days trying to do something in Publisher, and I’m coming to the conclusion that it’s just not possible. I really hope someone can prove me wrong… Objective: I’m generating a document with data merge. Within it, I want, for example, page 3 to include a bookmark (document link) to page 53, page 4 to include a bookmark to page 54, and so on. Equally, I want page 53 to link back to page 3, page 54 to link back to page 4, etc. It seems like it should be a fairly simple thing to do… My first attempt was simply to include links in the data merge file, but from what I’ve discovered there’s no way to populate links or bookmarks with merge fields. Then I tried creating a bookmark manually within the data merge layout, hoping that when I generated the merge it would update it on every subsequent page. Alas it just copied the same link to every newly generated page rather than making a ‘relative’ copy. In other words all my pages linked to the exact same page. Finally I turned to trying the Table of Contents. That looked promising, placing a TOC on a master page in a 1-line high text box so that it only shows one entry per page. But alas it doesn’t work. Every page shows just the first entry (unless you edit the TOC on each page manually, in which case, inexplicably, it creates a new TOC and starts over from that page, but only for that page). I don’t know if Cross References will be able to do this in the future? Right now they’re not included in the current beta, so I can’t it that as a solution. What am I missing? I suspect there must be a very simple solution that I’ve completely overlooked. Anyone have any ideas?
  9. Yeah, that’s really not what I want. I guess I’ll have to put this down to being another “desktop only” feature, which is very disappointing.
  10. That's more than I get. When I do a PDF export the preview is completely blank!
  11. On the Mac, it's easy to apply only the left or right page of a Master Page spread to the left or right page of a spread. I can't figure out a way of doing this on the iPad. Each way of applying the Master Page as described in the manual applies the whole Master Page spread to the whole page spread (ie you get left and right pages, whether or not you want them both). This is not always what you want / need. Am I missing something, or is this an oversight?
  12. Here you go. 1. SVG file (embedded). The layer can be hidden, resized, opacity changed, deleted, etc. 2. Rasterised the SVG. The layer can no longer be hidden, resized, opacity changed, or deleted.
  13. I've just seen this too, with the font Canela Text - I guess that's a default iPad font because I didn't install it. It's in the list of fonts for the text tools, but shows up red in the toolbar in Publisher (and Designer) when I select it. iPad OS 16.1.1.
  14. Exactly the same thing, except the tiny icon changes from vector to pixel.
  15. But only if it is rasterised, which doesn't make any sense. You can still change properties if it is not rasterised.
  16. Okay, thanks. Is there a list of missing features like this anywhere? It would save a lot of searching. Searching in the iPad online manual turns up articles that apparently don't relate to the iPad version.
  17. Yes, partial workaround. But you cannot hide the layer, change its opacity, resize it, or edit it in any other way. So you have to be sure your image is exactly as you want before rasterising, or delete it and start over.
  18. I'm rasterising the image inside the frame, not the frame. I select the image in the layers panel, right click and select Rasterise. On the iPad I do the same but select the rasterise option from the button at the top of the layers panel.
  19. Sorry I probably wasn't clear in my original posting. I'm not rasterising the image on the master page, I'm rasterising it on the regular page. For clarity: Place a frame on Master A On a regular page (with Master A applied), place a vector in that frame (I've tested SVG and EPS). Still on the regular page, rasterise that image. That image layer is now un-editable and cannot be deleted.
  20. I cannot find this option anywhere. When I search the Publisher For iPad help page it comes up with this: However that seems to only apply to the desktop version. Neither of these options are working on the iPad. Is there no way to do this?
  21. I'm not sure if this is a bug or expected behaviour. If expected, it's weird: Rasterising a vector placed into a frame from a master page renders that layer completely un-editable. It's not even possible to delete it. This happens on the mac and iPad, and happens in v1 as well as v2. Once you rasterise the vector, it's there to stay and there is no way I've found of removing it, you cannot even change its opacity or resize it. Doing the same thing on an image within a frame that is not part of a master page does not exhibit this behaviour.
