MarekGFX reacted to VIPStephan in RGB vs. RGB hex in colours panel – two versions really necessary?
It could be that this has been discussed in the past already, I don’t remember, but in the colours panel you can select the sliders view, and then there is a select field for RGB and RGB hex with the only real difference that there is a hex value field below the sliders. And I’m thinking: is it really necessary to have two views? Couldn’t they be combined into one with the RGB numbers being shown next to the sliders and the HEX field below? This also applies to colours in the fill and border panels on shapes.
Also, there is so much empty space next to the HEX field that could be used for two buttons to copy the HEX or RGB values quickly (see attached mock-up). That would be better than the current hidden option behind the button at the top right.

MarekGFX got a reaction from Intuos5 in Editing underline features
Dear Affinity team,
I really like the software, the Publisher really has the opportunity to replace the Adobe package in typesetting and graphic design. I've already started making youtube tutorials for friends in Slovakia to make their transition to AP as easy as possible. On the other hand, I would like to ask about the availability of some features (or if you plan to add them in the near future).
The text underlining is currently limited to functionality that is not absolutely usable for typesetting (crossing out decenders/loops, different line width comparing to stroke etc.). Adjustment of the offset and line thickness are missing. Typically, the typographer will simply set them up to avoid these visual problems. Since these are essential requirements for using this tool, do you plan adding them?

MarekGFX reacted to garrettm30 in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.9.0.7)
My opinion: no need to apologize for sending new betas our way soon after the previous. The way many of us are eager for the next great thing (like packaging here), that is a bit like saying, "I'm sorry to give you this nice gift today after I gave you the last gift only yesterday." Honestly, these beta release posts are usually the ones I look forward to the most.

MarekGFX reacted to Alfred in Rectangle fill colour 'noise'
The Opacity well at the bottom left of the Colour panel does double duty as a switch for toggling between opacity and noise. In the Windows version of the app, hovering over the Opacity well reveals a tooltip which says 'Switch to noise', but I understand from Mac users here that the Mac version rather less helpfully just says 'Switch' without telling you what it will switch to when you click on it.

+1 We need more options added for underlines.
Further to this, I posted a report here:

MarekGFX reacted to Old Bruce in Move pages, minimize studio, % scale transform
If you have the Show Right Studio enabled then it will show, regardless of the panels being collapsed or not. This is annoying but perhaps you could set a Keyboard Shortcut to toggle it on and off. Or just remove those panels and minimize them in the same general area.

MarekGFX reacted to Hilltop in Move pages, minimize studio, % scale transform
I have a workaround until such time that the panels can be opened through, e.g., buttons on the toolbar. I like all studio panels to be visible and ready for use, so I created two additional panel clusters and placed them in the empty space at the top of the UI. I made the panels in each cluster of the same width so that the header bar's size won't jump left and right. This assures that the panel names always remain readable and that there is always enough space left on the header bar to double-click to close the then open panel.
Be careful though not to click on the 'X' because it will close the complete cluster. You can reopen the cluster again in Studio by selecting the relevant panels one by one. They will appear at the same location and be of the same size. It would be nice to be able to lock such panel clusters.

Any ETA on non destructive free transform, perspective and warp tools like those found illustrator/Photoshop?

I agree, would be a big help when producing documents for various platforms

MarekGFX reacted to Seneca in Variable font support
The jury is still out on the usefulness of this in Typography.
Certainly, Variable Fonts Technology is being adopted by Web more quickly than by the traditional media.
Even the folks at Adobe express their concerns when it comes to VF.

MarekGFX reacted to dominik in Move pages, minimize studio, % scale transform
Thanks for mentioning it 🙂 I thought of that when I was writing the above but then I thought this perhaps is not too helpful because it does not change the width of the viewing area.
But for completeness sake it's worth to know, at least.

Hello,
I made a video step by step guide (for the Slovak dictionary). Maybe it will be useful

MarekGFX reacted to walt.farrell in Colour workflow
I didn't think of this yesterday, but I wonder if one could add a soft-proof layer to a Master Page in Publisher?
-
MarekGFX reacted to dominik in Move pages, minimize studio, % scale transform
Hello @MarekGFX,
@1: There is no command to do this but in long documents it can be of use to reduce page icons size to small. You also can resize the pages panel to display quite a huge number of pages. This way reordering spreads and pages with the mouse works quite well. But I do agree, a special command would be helpful, too.
@2: I am not quite sure what you mean by 'minimize studio'. Try the Tab key. Is this what you are looking for?
@3: Yes, you do it in the Transform Panel. Simply type into the field of width (or height) e.g. 200% and make sure that 'lock aspect ratio' is checked. You also can type a factor behind the actual value, e.g. 'W 45mm*2'.

MarekGFX reacted to walt.farrell in Changing Master Page items to editable items
Yes. With the page selected, the Layers panel will show the applied master page at the bottom of the layer stack, and it will be locked. Unlock it.

MarekGFX reacted to fde101 in Footnotes/Endnotes
All, there is really no point to all of these "me2" posts and the like - check the "Recommended" post at the top of the page: they are already working on implementing this.
Step back and give them time to do it right. It's coming.

MarekGFX reacted to Pankaj in When Affinity Designer will get the power of SHAPE BUILDER TOOL.
If one has to name one tool which give incredible power to a user, most of the user will say its Shape Builder Tool.
It not only can reduce the time consumption in a long project but also give the freedom of creativity to a user.
One can easily test out the prototype without going too sophisticated on a idea.
Thank you.

MarekGFX reacted to walt.farrell in Hyphenation and columns in frame text tool
Maybe, if you're using enough text that you need to have automatic hyphenation, you could reconsider your workflow? Start in Publisher, and stay there, working in the Designer Persona?

MarekGFX got a reaction from Cuando in Hyphenation and columns in frame text tool
Hey, I just do not understand why is hyphenation option available in the character settings, but it does not work. Any reasonable explanation, ideas?
-
MarekGFX reacted to dcrosby in Hyphenation and columns in frame text tool
This has probably been requested before but I'll ask again if so. Designer has some excellent type capabilities; Glyphs, OpenType support, ligatures, space before and after paragraphs, etc. Working with text seems to fall apart for me though, without hyphenation and multiple columns (I won't bother to ask for linking text frames). Hyphenation is pretty basic and nearly impossible to set a proper paragraph without it. Multiple text columns are pretty basic and are frequently used in posters, flyers and other single page layouts. Why include Paragraph Styles when paragraph formatting is too limited to consider using it?
I understand that those features are available in Publisher which I may purchase one day, but having to add that to my workflow seems like a lot of unnecessary overhead for a couple of basic options.
Please consider adding these two features in a future update.

@LRStrand That strikes me as a perfect example of when to use paragraph decorations (ie. borders and fills of paragraphs). Attached is a quick example. I have made the paragraph styles Heading 1 and Heading 2 to partially mimic what I see in your PDF.
