    Hello.
Yes, I am aware of that, but that is also not the topic of this thread. Or maybe I did not understand you well.
What I am talking about is the underline option of the word / selection and the possibility of tweaking its parameters (stroke, offset etc.).
    Anyway, thanks for the response

    Dear Affinity team,
I really like the software, the Publisher really has the opportunity to replace the Adobe package in typesetting and graphic design. I've already started making youtube tutorials for friends in Slovakia to make their transition to AP as easy as possible. On the other hand, I would like to ask about the availability of some features (or if you plan to add them in the near future).
The text underlining is currently limited to functionality that is not absolutely usable for typesetting (crossing out decenders/loops, different line width comparing to stroke etc.). Adjustment of the offset and line thickness are missing. Typically, the typographer will simply set them up to avoid these visual problems. Since these are essential requirements for using this tool, do you plan adding them?

Thank you for the response  I updated the bug description and made a step by step guide to reproduce it. Hope it helps.

    Hi,
can check your display settings, and upload screenshots showing the settings regarding mode (extend / mirror), and resolution?

Depending on certain constraints (connection type e.g. HDMI, DP, cpu / gpu) there are limits on how many displays can be driven, and in what resolution.
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Cinema_Display, the display is quite dated, does not support retina resolution. Compared to a 5K Retina-Display it is actually blurry.

Actually, this already exists! There is an 'Optical Alignment' section in the Character palette.

Yep, same here. My breaking point was discovery of missing multiline composing of paragraphs. Ragged lines at the end of the paragraph looks horrible. Do not get me wrong, I love the concept of Affinity products and I consider myself as fan, but Publisher is so not ready for the professional typesetting.

    Hello,
expand stroke command produces horrible paths (shown on attached video). Please, can you fix this asap? The app is literally unusable for professional logo creation or detailed exports for factory production.

A new update to fix functional errors and problems.
But unfortunately, functional errors and problems that have been reported in the forum for more than a year have still not been corrected.
The best example is the incorrect calculations with the Divide function from Geometry, when you want to divide several superimposed shapes (especially more curved shapes). And if the shapes have additional strokes, these are separated from the shapes and become their own elements, which even with too many overlays become individual fragments of a contour.

Yes, it is. I tried with different examples and it works just fine. But in this particular one it is a problem – unexpected behaviour.

That would be exactly what I would like to be addressed by Serif as soon as possible! It looks like that it has been confused by others here in this discussion with "decorations" on the paragraph level, which are significantly more advanced in the Affinity apps as of now (v1.9).
On the character level, however, where "Underline", "Strikethrough" etc. live, there's still almost no way to customize any of those lines. More often than not the default provided by the program looks quite awkward in connection with the actual font in use.
I think that just anybody who cares for decent typography absolutely needs to be able to tweak underline options on a character style level. So please, Serif, add this in version 2 – it will be highly appreciated!
If I could ask for even more, I'd love to have the option(!) to have an underline applied "intelligently" by the program – i.e. skipping characters with descenders and so avoiding ugly "strikethroughs" of (just the) descenders. I guess there must be a way to automate such a behaviour as I recently saw underlined links on a webpage featuring the look I'm speaking of (see attachment). I don't really think this has been done by hand for each of the characters with no visible underline (g, comma, parentheses). You'd think: if this can be done for web by CSS or Javascript (or whatever), it should be possible for a desktop design app as well...

I do often use a very small amount of glyph scaling (1 or 2%). I personally would not want to look at text with much more than that.
As to the multiline/paragraph composer, I have been a frequent proponent of that feature on this forum. I was just discussing that with my boss this morning, in fact. We have been experimenting on moving over to Publisher from InDesign with some smaller projects. Some of the "missing features" (that is, features we wish were added, like footnotes), I have reasonable confidence that they will eventually make it into Publisher. But this feature is one that I am very uncertain of, not even at the level of "we hope to do this eventually, but we have other priorities for the near future." It made for an embarrassing turn in the conversation, as I have generally been praising Publisher as a young but promising new offering.

What is the position over Multiline H & J, called "Adobe Paragraph Composer" in InDesign. Are we to get a much improved justifying algorithm which goes back to the previous full stop and rejigs the previous whole paragraph for best fit. Perhaps even altering character width as well as word and letter spacing. Even better, may we expect this in the near future? Only asking. (Grin)

I would also like to suggest the "Balance ragged lines" feature. This is something I use in almost every publication I produce.
For those who do not know what I am talking about, this is a feature from InDesign. Imagine a center-aligned heading that is just a bit too long to fit on a single line. Normally, this would mean only the last word or so would get bumped to the next line. Such as this:
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy
    dog
Balance ragged lines would instead display the following, without any need for forcing a line break:
    The quick brown fox jumped
    over the lazy dog

@garrettm30 is correct. This is pinned to make it easier to find as we know it is important and really do not want 100 independent threads all asking for the same feature.
Serif are currently in the process of implementing this. It needs to be done carefully, not just thrown in, and we do always have the issue of programming resources. Thank you all for your patience, it will be rewarded.

MarekGFX reacted to Andrew W in iCloud Drive - Crashing 1.9 Publisher when file and referenced files are on iCloud Drive and not downloaded to local machine.
I think i've found a bug with Affinity Publisher 1.9.0 on Big Sur 11.2.1 which crashes Publisher in the following scenario -
I have an affinity publisher file with a number of linked PDF files inside it.
The main publisher file is on an iCloud drive (and NOT downloaded to the machine)
The linked/referenced files inside it are also on an iCloud drive (and NOT downloaded to the machine)
Opening the publisher file attempts to load the file, and subsequently the linked/referenced files crashes Affinity Publisher each time.
    Summary -
Affinity publisher crashes when loading a file that contained linked files/images that are stored on iCloud drive and NOT downloaded locally
    (crash report sent to apple)
    Reproducable fix -
Right click on main publisher file and select 'download'
Right click folder containing the linked/referenced files and select 'download'
    Main file then opens correctly.

I'm caught between these two contradictory opinions, as they both seem right to me in some way:

I do think if the thread were to be closed as is, it would suggest to many that Serif is not interested in this feature and that they want to shut off any further discussion. Of course that is not true, as we who have been through this thread for a long time can tell from the bits and pieces that Serif reps have told us. My point, however, is that the many people who are new or generally less engaged in the forum may not have come across those posts yet (in fact, many recent posts in this thread seem to indicate that to be the case).
To avoid that, if this thread is to locked, I would recommend to Serif to make some kind of comment as a last post that Serif has definite plans to add footnotes in the not too distant future, or even that they have already begun work on it—if indeed that is the case (as I have assumed from some of the comments I have read). Even if the thread is not closed, it would be helpful to have Serif post one of a pinned posts (accepted answer?) that is at the top of every page of the thread so that newcomers won't have to dig past all the repetition to find an actual answer. I feel like there was one until recenty, but it is quite possible that I remember that happening on a different post, such as data merge.
