2989 reacted to AndiR in Create Tiles/Pattern Repeats?
I'm trying to make repeating patterns or tiles but do not know how to do it in Affinity. In Illustrator I set up a square artboard (say 8"), place a motif, and then I can double-click the selection arrow. A pop up allows me to make a copy of the motif and place it precisely 8" to the right or above or below. Once I have all my motifs placed, I make a square (no fill, no stroke), place it at the back of the layers, and select all. Drag these into my swatches and I have a new pattern that seamlessly fills any size object I create. (See sample tile)
Is there a way to do something similar in Affinity?
Thanks,
Andi

I'm missing Separated Window mode in my affinity designer desktop. Is it discontinued? Or something wrong with my settings?

Sorry, but it's really pathetic.
The programs have really great features, but are sometimes so terrible to use. I switched back to a cheap subscription to Photoshop two weeks ago. And it will probably be similar with Affinity Designer. Working with the slice tool alone is driving me crazy.

It's been a year. And I guess there are also older posts about organizing and saving workspaces. Now there is an update and still everything is as before. Dear Affinity Team, what is so hard about this step of improvement to go. It's certainly not due to expertise. Aren't you allowed? Do you have a "nerd" as project manager who has nothing in mind with usability? Or are you just stubborn? Take a look around the real world and see how something like this works. Then you'll notice how useful it is. I am glad that I can still use Photoshop.

2989 reacted to GrahamMYC in WebPlus
It seems one is only able to make feature requests relating to Ipad. Sorry. Not all of us use Ipad.
As I can find no other location, I am posting here.
Having heard that Serif are withdrawing support for WebPlus I have sought alternatives. Currently I am trying to remodel my website in WordPress which is widely used. It is horribly clunky compared to WebPlus. Is there any possibility that Serif might reconsider its decision to abandon WebPlus?
I feel it is a bit like Betamax, which lost out to VHS, even though it was superior, It would be a tragedy to lose WebPlus.

2989 reacted to AlejandroJ in More vector brushes and vector objects (assets) at disposal
I bought Affinity Photo and Affinity Design. I like both, but regarding drawing abilities (not illustrating) I think Serif DrawPlus (which I also have) keeps being stronger and I still use it. If I would have to do an illustration, I would use Affinity Designer, but if I would have to do a more technical drawing (not that technical that it would be better to draw it using AutoCAD or a program of the kind) or a presentation for what is my line of work, I would choose to work using DrawPlus.
There are mainly two things that DrawPlus had and not Affinity Design that allowed me to assemble presentations and planning schemes or drafts in no time.
One, is that DrawPlus can import and export DWG file and AutoCAD block. This has already been asked for, in a previous thread.
The other thing is that DrawPlus had plenty of vector brushes and lots of very useful vector images at “Gallery”.
So, what I am asking for here is for more vector brushes and vector objects (assets) to be put at our disposal.
I tried but couldn’t export / import those from DrawPlus into Affinity Design (because it probably can’t be done), although I can copy vector images from one and paste in the other (not brushes as they are pasted as a raster image and not as a vector drawing). But for what I have seen, with Affinity Design, if willing to get more brushes or already done assets, one depends on other users developing and providing them through this same web site (at “Resources”).If I want to assemble a presentation or drawing, I prefer to devote all my time in doing so and not to have to loose time drawing what I could get already done. For example trees or plants, I can import them to DrawPlus as AutoCAD blocks or even use the ones in “Gallery” > “Plants”. Think of all the time I would loose if having to draw the plants by myself, or a car or whatever instead of concentrating on expressing the message I want to convey through a presentation.

I would NEVER have bought any affinity software if I knew this key piece was missing.
as nice as any of the tools are , its a piece of trash that makes me angry because I cannot do BASIC importing of files.
Frustrated by the lack of options to get vectors into stupid affinity.

Welcome to the forums @a3creative,
You need to drag the color picker tool, (eye dropper) to the color you want to select, then click on it. That color will be represented in the color well, (the dot beside the eyedropper). Now you need to click on that dot.
Here's a link to the Affinity Online Help for Sampling Colors

2989 reacted to Busenitz in drag to paste inside
Hopefully someone can help me as I'm starting to think I'm losing my mind. I've been using AD / AP for years and have gotten into the habit of dragging an object from Finder into my project, then in the layers panel, dragging the object under and slightly over below a shape in the layers panel to do the equivalent of paste inside. (that's so much easier!!) Now all of a sudden, I have to have the object in my project, then cut, then paste inside the desired object. What changed? My settings? An update???

2989 reacted to birdieandjune in Can I create a cutting file for my Cricut
Hi,
Please excuse what may seem like very basic questions but I am extremely unexperienced with graphic design. I've used GIMP for a few months and found it clunky and time consuming, so I recently purchased Affinity Photo and I am contemplating purchasing Affinity Designer depending on the answer to my question. I've watched several of the tutorials and have searched the help section and forums but have not found an answer to several of my questions.
I own a Cricut cutting machine and I make t-shirts using heat transfer vinyl. I have figured out how to make pngs in affinity and import them into cricut design space. This is pretty easy. However, what I would like to know is if I can create svgs in affinity to import into Cricut design space? I can currently purchase svg files online and when I import them into Cricut design space, I only have to do 1 import and each layer/element that is in a different color is imported in one file. This makes it quick and efficient and then I can edit each layer/element independently in design space. Is there a way for me to make files like this with affinity photo and/or affinity design? Since I use vinyl, I need each color in design space as a separate layer.
I have attached a screenshot as an example. I have created this simple text/shape graphic in photo. My designs are super simple, mostly text and shapes. I want to import it as an svg into Cricut design space so that when I open in Cricut design space, the arrow and text are different layers so that I can cut out the text in black and then the arrow in red vinyl. I know how to save each layer as a png, but then I have to import each layer separately. This isn't a big deal for something relatively simple, but if I'm using more than 2 or 3 colors, it gets tedious. Is there a way to do this? I have very basic knowledge and don't know much of the terminology, though I'm spending about an hour each day online learning. But I need a very basic explanation.
Thanks,
Lynnsey

2989 reacted to Busenitz in Can I create a cutting file for my Cricut
If you have Affinity Photo, I would recommend trying some basic vector work in that app, and see how that SVG imports into Cricut Design Space. Although Designer gives you many more vector options than Photo, I think you will have some of the same results as far as exporting / importing, to find your basic layering options.
I have a Silhouette Cameo, and have had sizing trouble with my AD SVGs importing into the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software (I've had some of the same with importing to other apps as well) Using PDF as my export option, I have had better success. Importing a AD created SVG definitely gives me the option to cut by color (if you color the pieces of each layer the same color) in my SSDE software.
Even though I have the Designer Edition and not just the basic Silhouette software, AD has become my "go to" software for designing my cuts. (I do paper crafts, cards, wall vinyl, heat transfer, etc.)
I do realize that while CDS is similar, it is not identical to SSDE, but hope this helps some.

2989 reacted to anita in Affinity Designer for creating Web pages?
you speak straight from the depth of my heart.
I came to Affinity because I was a long term Macromedia client and fan. Designer, a´part from a few quirks, replaces freehand which I used for 20 years first as Aldus than Macromedia. We all know the use for Affinity photo but Adobe swallowed Dreamweaver and I am not thinking of going there. The new one isn't half as good and I really can't afford the subscription.
I downloaded Designer because i was hoping, like you, that there would be an HTML export.
Oh yes, I would go for that immediately. But as it stands, I need a good counsel what to use instead.

2989 reacted to Gerryk in Affinity Designer for creating Web pages?
It is a pity the serif has decided to drop the website design webplus, I used it fir many years, it was quite simply the best software to design your website with, all others do not have the versatility and are sadly lacking, I have tried others only to find that hmmm feeling, wix is ok but again not upto the job as webplus was, I would like to see an affinity version, like the old plus series so you can put your designs or photos from one app straight into your designed website, pageplus also had some web design features. The advertising alone would be good, website made via infinity apps, I used to use all the drawplus, photoplus pageplus and webplus, the x period and so on, I always had a serif logo at the bottom of the webpage and link to the serif website but I guess it is hard to keep up with the ever evolving www, security and so on, I also found the forum part was better than most as they got hacked but not serif, I trusted it completely, I have had a backdoor takeover from other commercial forums that allowed people to send out emails using the sites email boxes for junk mail or worse, had to shut the site down in the end, since then I have used the limited wix but no longer feel enthusiastic about web design due to the demise of webplus and it's ease of use to do professional looking website the way you want it.

2989 reacted to Thoxton in Filling and image with a image
Hi
I’m not sure if I’m explaining this correctly, basically I design cards and would like to fill outline images of say champagne glasses or a house shape with a picture or wallpaper pattern.
I can fill text with an image but when I have tried it with a clip art image it doesn’t work.
Can anyone give me some guidance?
Many thanks

2989 reacted to Apfel in Global Symbols? A.K.A. Symbols shared between documents?
I would also like to have that feature. If you add a Symbol to a document and don't want it to sync, you can simply unlink it. It you use lots of global symbols and can't keep track of where they are used, it's a) not much different than having a single document with lots of artboards, and b) it's the users responsibility to not make things overly complicated.
One way to implement this, by the way, would be to allow "Place Image" to link an image instead of embedding it, and refreshing whenever the source file changes. Then, your global symbol would be just a document that contains that symbol only.

2989 reacted to Paul Batty in Affinity Photo - Saving the Workspace?
Being able to save different workspaces for different needs is a really useful feature. The Adobe Software CS/CC has offered this sort of thing with pre-sets for Photography, Typography, Painting and the ability for the user to create Custom workspaces. I regularly use the facility on Photoshop & InDesign when writing tutorials for the classes I teach at college.
It would be a fantastic feature to add to all the 'Affinity' software because it allows the end user to work in a way that meets their own requirements. Reading the comments above seems to suggest that this sort of thing is already built-in but hidden. If other software providers offer this facility is it not time that Affinity made the feature available in their own software, even if it means adding another few options to the existing Window menu >>>>>> New Workspace > Reset Workspace > Delete Workspace. It's not much to ask for, is it?
I would also like to see other developments in Affinity software to make it more intuitive to use, such as adding greater control to the Warp/Mesh tool to make it more like Photoshops 'Free Transform' tool with ability to change option by using a right click inside the transform to Scale, Distort, Perspective, Warp etc.
Or the ability to access more than one RAW file at time in the 'Develop Persona' and then be able to copy/sync develop settings to a whole batch of images just as can be done in 'Adobe Camera Raw' or 'Lightroom'.
While I have all the Affinity software, I still end up working with Adobe Software just because I can get things done quicker as it is more intuitive. I really hope that the Affinity software gets better and better with each incarnation, I would hope the development team takes on board the comments from all who have invested in their work. I admit I also need to spend a bit more time using the Affinity software, which will probably happen in my retirement.
Just like the comment above I have a love hate relationship with Affinity Photo, I inform people about the software but always say its missing the little extra bits that make Photoshop easier and quicker to use.

Please add my vote to have this feature added. I like to have my panels set up a specific way on my second monitor. It's frustrating to have to rearrange and resize the panels every time I open a new image. Surely it can't be too hard a feature to add?????

2989 reacted to kelbyuk in Global Symbols? A.K.A. Symbols shared between documents?
Could you create a document with symbols in and then duplicate the document to use the symbols? Effectively creating a library document as a template.
It would of course be useful to have a global set of symbols that can be changed and synched across documents.
