I have begun project using a new 12" print square of alpha. Next I placed a png of a geometric line shape vector. I then selected, & deleted a segment of the geometric shape. I have then dragged over a gradation to apply over the deleted area (onto a new layer), but when I do this various pixel artefacts are revealed underneath gradation coverage which have failed to delete, even though they are well within the boundary of the selected area. Why is this?

Thanks Walt. I created an A2 doc, placed & expanded the main image to the doc size, then placed the card, which didn't need to be reduced so much. So now it is not pixelated within the A2 format. But when I merge the two layers & then zoom in to the merged image to say an A5 flyer size, the card is so pixelated it's not possible to tell what it is. However, if I export the merged image, then place it on a new A5 doc & reduce to fit selecting the move icon tool, it looks okay. So there's a two things happening here of which I am unsure of the mechanics. Well, at least I have learned how to achieve my goal. Again Walt, many thanks for your time. Have a lovely weekend.

How can I measure the space on the main image that it needs to fit onto? I would need to know what size to reduce it to. The finished image will be for online promotional purposes & for print; possibly at flyer & poster size, but definitely at cd size. The image can't be pixelated, for example at A2 size.

Here's what occurred. I opened my af project file (4951x3501 pixels) & then 'placed' the second image file (high res tiff 120mb file size, 300dpi) onto it. The second image file however, was imported greatly expanded over the the size of the first image. So I used the resize tool to make it smaller, to the size I want it within the first image (approximately 1/8th the size of the first image, but much much smaller than it was when originally 'placed'). I just checked what size the image would as a TIFF export; 288kb! I have some confusion though. When I select (for the main image) the 'hand' icon tool the figures in the toolbar are: Pan 1425x1007, 1.43MP. Whereas when I select the 'move' icon tool, the figures in the toolbar change to 4951x3501 pixels @1042 dpi.

I need to add a photographic image that is 4884x3235 pixels (high res tiff 120mb file size) onto a photographic image that is 4951x3501 pixels (high res tiff), but I need to scale it down to approx 1/8th its original size. However, when I do this it becomes very pixelated. Why is this & how can I preserve its resolution? Thank you.

I have recently purchased the RetroSupply Co 'Glitch' package with various textures & brushes. It includes 3 base templates. Upon opening a template it is set up with 2 colour channels, 2 halftone fx & a variety of textures. I have followed the instructions & created a few experimental designs, very cool! But I have an issue beyond my current knowledge base. I have placed an image into the template, as usual, set parameters on the two colour channels & added one texture to my placed image. My placed image is a transparent png & the native template document is white. What I want to do is insert a new layer, adding a flood colour, behind what I have thus far created (the crow subject & the textured effect, white zigzag lines). But when I add new pixel layer to the bottom of the list of layers & flood colour it, the colour affects the layers above it, altering the colour of the subject & the texture. I have tried moving the new coloured pixel layer to various other ranks in the list, even putting it inside the folder with the texture, but to no avail. I am making sure that I have only the new pixel layer checked when I flood the fill colour onto it. The screenshot shows the image & the order of layers without an added pixel layer. I want to have a layer the same size as the white document background, but coloured.

Thanks for your reply walt.farrell. I have discovered that although Retro Supply describe their pre-made templates thus, they are actually .afphoto files & not .aftemplate files. As far as functionality is concerned, it doesn't seem to matter whether I save using 'Export As Template' or 'Save As', with regards to the templates opening & performing in APhoto as expected. The file sizes between the two types are also are equal. So what is the essential difference between these two save types? Would you advise continuing to update the pre-made .afphoto 'template' files native to the Retro Supply folder or instead create new .aftemplate files of the ADesigner type? These are the very first templates I've created & saved. I have only opened ADesigner perhaps a couple of times, having decided that as a photographer desiring to manipulate photographic images, APhoto is most useful to me. When I end my ADesigner trial & decide that I don't need to purchase the software I will remove it from my hd. Will the ADesigner template files still work with APhoto? Many thanks for your time.

I am exporting templates in APhoto, updating a template I purchased as part of the Glitch Effects package by Retro Supply, & except for on one occasion, it saves as an ADesigner template file. Only one time did the file save as an APhoto template file, & I don't know why. Why is this & will it cause issues? I have the trial version of ADesigner installed, but have not used it for a long time. I have a payed verison of APhoto for Win 7.

I also have a technique I want to apply which will be very time consuming if there is not automation involved. I want to cut 2 images each into 20 vertical strips & then create a space beside each strip, equal in width. I then want to layer the images together so the overlaying image's strips cover the spaces of the base image. Do you know if there is an automated way to cut an image into several equal strips without having to cut them all individually & then insert spaces also individually? Many thanks.

Perfect kaffeeundsalz! This works exactly as I need. Another valuable lesson learned. I think you are correct in your assumption that the image ought to have auto adjusted to the remaining pixel information & I believe it has done so before in some cases, but not all. I will scrutinise my Select/Invert/Delete process to find an answer. Thanks for your time & efforts, much appreciated. Have a great weekend.

I am using Photo 1.8.3.641 on Win 7. I bought the software a couple of days ago after trialling. I followed your instructions using Copy Flattened instead, but this crops the document to the alpha border of the image & puts the image on a new document the same size as the alpha border. Still I cannot crop from the alpha border to the picture itself.
