AP V2 - Export Process Guidance Required
jubro replied to jubro's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Thanks thomaso. Though there is a further complication... 1. I select the first preset which sets quality to 85% (High), and ICC, etc. 2. I then select the second preset which adds the pixel and filename extensions, BUT, this also then sets the image quality of the iiner dark blue slice window to Best (100%), which on export, ignores the parameters of the first preset. 3. If I then change that parameter to High (85%), my first preset is replaced with the default High quality preset. Frankly it's doing my head in. I'm just going to use the basic Export Panel, which, for this purpose is faster and simple to use. For the events I am shooting I have to apply these changes to each of the exported images (up to 100), when really there ought to be functionality in batch exporting for such basic requirements.- 23 replies

AP V2 - Export Process Guidance Required
jubro replied to jubro's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Okay, Walt. Thanks for the advice. Though I don't see how replying to myself would make a difference to fact that it was read many times and there were no replies. How would it go to the top of an Unread list if it's already been read?- 23 replies

AP V2 - Export Process Guidance Required
jubro replied to jubro's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Through the process of providing the requested images, I have discovered how the difference in file size is occurring. I have been exporting using the export button on the inner dark blue panel of the slice window, where I have changed the name and pixel size. This results in a larger file size, though I don't know why. If I export using the export button on the paler blue outer panel, then the file size is the same as if exported using the basic Export Panel. I feel the export persona is quite complicated to use, and don't know why it's necessary to create a slice in order to change the pixel size of an image and add a filename extension. I wish there were a simpler way, especially for exporting many images simultaneously. So, I will continue to do this using the basic Export Panel, as it's actually faster. Thanks for your help.- 23 replies

Sorry Walt, but I don't understand. I have posted again, and the topic is the same. The only adjustment I made was to the title, which seems prudent, as I have some helpful replies now.- 23 replies

Here are images of both the Export Persona with the presets in place, and Export panel; resulting in exported file sizes of 864kb and 178kb respectively.- 23 replies

I left the other settings at their defaults, which I assumed would be the same. When I next have the opportunity I will check. Thanks for pointing out those aspects.- 23 replies

I have set up presets in Export Persona; one for JPG quality set to 85% and a second for longest edge 1280p with a name extension denominating both the preset actions (I wish it could all be done with one preset), - ' - Q85 1280p'. The issue I am having is that the file size when exported using this method is much larger than when setting the quality to JPG 85% using the quick export panel method. For example, an image I exported via the Export Persona presets is 1.78mb, whilst the same image exported using the quick export panel with the same settings is only 426kb. I would prefer the smaller size. What am I doing incorrectly? And is there a much easier way to set up an export preset for: 1. Quality 2. Image size 3. File name extension. It's pretty much just as quick to use the quick export panel and type in the file name extension manually, as it is to enter the Export persona, scroll down to the bottom of two lists to access each of the presets, export the image as a slice and then return to the photo persona. The ideal for me would be using the batch exporter and export an entire project simultaneously rather than individually, but it seems there is no way to add a file name extension during this process.

I've just returned to an updated V2 and there are alpha bars above and below my image thumbnail on the layer, and also a square of alph on the layer handle. I don't have any alpha showing on my work space, just the RAW image. How can I remove this alpha from the layer? It's far too busy and confusing on the eye when viewing the layers. I don't know exactly how to describe it, so don't know which setting to look for to turn it off. I am assuming that it's not a bug, but a labelling feature, though why there's alpha showing around an image where there's no alpha to see, I don't know. If it's there to show me in two different ways that I am using a pixel image layer, then it is unnecessary, as that is self-evident. Thank you.
