OK, I just closed AP again and relaunched it, and I now have all my brushes. I don't know if it worked this time because I first opened up AD to view my brushes. then closed AD to then open AP but I now have all my brushes, even the ones I created. Not sure why the reset brushes didn't clear them out but i'm not complaining! It probably worked because i submitted this post.

After you set the square to be the clipping mask, if you select the pic layer then click on the FX option, choose Outline and then increase the radius. Does that provide you with what you are looking for?
