  1. Agree. First crashes when changing to develop persona. After a few tries (and reports to Apple), develop personas opened and then crashes with white balance adjustments.
  2. I' m sure EDR is not the same as 10-30-bit colour support..in editing (as I would like). This is what they say: Pixelmator Pro features EDR mode, which will let you view and edit images in 10-bit color. However, exporting in 10-bit color isn't available as a feature at the moment. We do plan to expand Pixelmator Pro's EDR functionality in the future. You can read more about EDR mode here: https://www.pixelmator.com/support/guide/pixelmator-pro/693 Indeed extending dynamic range shouldn't be necessary at all. If at all, it would even work less optimal.
  3. Thank you again NotMyFault. I suspected this...Affinity is limited to 8 bit depth. But...preview?? Not sure what you mean there.
  4. Thank you Alex. I know and you say it right: Photoshop supports 30bit viewing. I want those smooth gradations (and less chance for banding/more information out of shadows/etc.). Do you know of any other application/photo software, that can do this? Because that' s exactly what I mean and want. Hardware is capable here...monitors/cables/etc. Now...where' s the software? My iMac: Framebuffer Depth: 30-bits color (ARGB2101010) My Eizo CG2700S: Framebuffer Depth: 30-bits color (ARGB2101010) I hope, you don' t mind Alex, but I have shared part of your excellent reaction on another forum. Cannot explain it better myself.
  5. Thank you fde101 and NotMyFault. I have PixelmatorPro. Beside that I asked Eizo Netherlands. They only could tell me that Photoshop does support display. Didn't t know about any other application that could actually do this. They want to check. I don' t think that EDR mode (Extended Dynamic Range) in Pxelmator Pro does anything like true 10/30-bit colour support (that is...displaying those colours). Like it says, it uses the high peak brightness of the XDR display. Shouldn't be necessary for displaying 10/30-bit colour.
  6. Right. But that doesn' t do any good if I cannot actually see those images in 10-bit. Pixelmator Pro says (from website in your link): "Extended Dynamic Range Mode for Pro Display XDR and other displays that support it" Don' t know if this means 10/30-bit colour support....so, displaying these colours. I doubt it, because otherwise it would have been mentioned.
  7. With an iMac and an Eizo CG (both 30-bit colour depth possible), I don' t have any software that can support 10-bit/30-bit colour. DXO PL doesn' t / Affinity Photo doesn't. So I' m stuck. Any ideas what software would be an alternative?
  8. @smadell / Lisbon and thomaso. Thank you very much for all this advice. I have tried several ideas and I' m not sure yet. Lighten black point by using Levels adjustment only doesn' t seem to be good idea as it still effects all other brightness settings (mid tones/highlight). Using "anchors" in Curves looks promising. Not sure yet how to use numbers effectively there (in my first example bp of 0,6 below which I would then want some detail instead of pure black). Blending could be interesting as well (although I' ll have to get used to that workflow). Apart form the fact that I would like to lighten the values below 0,6 in my example (instead of darken it), I like the idea of min/max option inside curves. Pretty simple and effective. Worth more tries. I use DXO PL for more than 90% of all my images, and pretty satisfied. There are a few limitations that I don' t like at all (like this, but also no 10/30bit colour support and soft proofing). I used Affinity Photo only every now and then (mostly for HDR or panoramic or maybe an odd effect). So, not so knowledgeable here. The sheer number of possibilities inside AP and the much less intuitive workflow frightened me a little (even after I bought the Workbook a couple of years back). ll probably use it more from now on though. It looks to me, that there are enough possibilities inside Affinity Photo to experiment with. Thank you very much again!
  9. When I' m using the Curves diagram in AP, I would like to only lighten or darken a specific brightness in the image. When pinpointing a certain spot on the curves line and trying to lighten the deep black shadows below that value, I also see the mid lights are changing (probably relative to and compensating for what I' m trying to do). Let’ s just say I want to lighten below a certain black point (maybe 0.6 or any other value). I don’ t know how to fill in any numbers (like maybe 0.6 as base /or any other number). It’ s also impossible to get a point fixed on the curves line/trying to adjust only the blacks that are below that point, without moving the whole line. Is there a way to move the black point up to a certain value (that could be a base value for a fine art photo paper), without affecting mid- and higher lights? Thank you very much!
  10. Thank you Fixx! I' ll have to try....trial and error should be teaching a lot.
  11. Hello everyone! I plan to buy a new printer (Canon Prograf Pro 1000). DXO PL3 is my main raw converter and my main program. Every now and then I export tiff files into Affinity Foto. DXO PL does not have softproofing options, so I will possibly use Affinity Foto more in the future (soft proofing). Now, I wonder if there is any general " rule" / maybe consensus or general guidelines, on how much (extra) sharpening a file needs, when I print from Affinity Foto. I don' t expect a fixed rule here, but mostly interested in personal experiences. Maybe nothing can be said in general, but then I know I have to experiment a lot. I like to see A2 prints up close! Thank you very much!
  12. Thank you Lee. Even batch processing (or better: importing) doesn't t change this (?). I' ve tried .dng' s as well; works a bit faster. Then I cannot see all the imported images (like a filmstrip with small images to actually see them, instead of just photo number en little info). It looks like I have to use AP importing one image at the time...work on it..and export it. If I import a batch of images, they seem to be gone after closing and opening AP again some time later. Purely by numbers I cannot distinguish one photo from another. By the way, I' m using DXO PL as my first raw converter. Works fine with AP....but unfortunately there' s no support for A7RIV files yet.
  13. Hello everyone. First time on this forum. I hope to learn a lot. I have been using AP for over a year now (together with DXO PL2, which does not yet support RAW files from my Sony A7RIV). Very nice experience. I bought a new 2019 27" iMac some months ago. 2Tb SSD / i9 / 8 core / 64Gb memory (so fully spec'd). Just a few weeks ago I bought the new Sony A7RIV. Great Mac and great camera! With AP however I have to wait VERY long before a batch of 40 raw images are imported. I mean...at least 30 minutes (!), and even then, have to be lucky to get all these files loaded at all. Beachball most of the time. I cannot (yet) open these raw files in Apples own " Photos" ( " camera is not recognized" it says). Importing those raw files into AP one by one, is no problem at all (reasonably quick). Is there a way of importing a larger batch of raw files (much) quicker ? I know the Sony A7RIV is new and the files can be huge (120mb per file sometimes), but there should not be any problem with my new iMac, although OS probably does not yet support RAW files from A7RIV. From SD card into card reader of my iMac all raw files are copied on the internal SSD very fast (but they are not visible as images...only icons). All help/tips/advice is very welcome! Thank you!
