Gordon432 reacted to v_kyr in Rounded corner and frame on image
BTW, I've forgotten to mention that when using the toolbar "Corner tool" you can when it's activated, also first select all 4 corner points and apply then the radius rounding all at once for all 4 corners equally, that's then more time usage efficient, than I showed in the vid with single selected corner point manipulations. - However with single corner point selection and manipulation you can give all those 4 corners then also different roundings in case needed or wanted.

What Errka means is ...
Place your image into the doc, select it and then convert it to curves via the menu command "Layer > Convert to curves" Afterwards use the "Corner tool" from the toolsbar and apply the corner rounding to the 4 edges You can afterwards adjust just the stroke/contour of the image to make that white rounding as shown previously (or place it on a rounded shape as I show this time), note however that applying just the stroke then is more precise and exact.

There are several different possible ways to do what you are after in AD. - One quick way would be ...
Create a new transparent document of desired size. Add a rounded rectangle shape, the rounded corner radius can be adjusted on top at the tools settings. Place your image into the document, clip it to the rounded rect shape. Add another stroke to the rounded rect of desired size and color.

Thanks for sharing Michael. Namaste.

Gordon432 reacted to Archangel in Quick Symbols from PagePlus X9
I moved these quick symbols from PagePlus X9 into Publisher as they are quite useful for general documents. Here are the assets.
Hopefully Serif won't mind me sharing them as they are so useful.

I've been doing photography for a long time. Was even a freelancer until about 15 years ago. Went digital 2002 but packed it all in and went to live in Spain. Stayed 5 years and came back 10 years ago. Just do charity stuff now and for a couple of friends. All people photography. I'm on Facebook. I'm new to Affinity as I bought an Apple Mac, updated to Catalina and found out Adobe didn't work! Need to find people that can help me get over this.
Regards, Pete.

Hello petegeoff,
Welcome to the community and welcome to macOS (you will not regret it).
Affinity software has good documentation.
First in the software themselves (look at the Help menu)
Then on the internet :
- Tutorials
Without forgetting the literature (see the shop):
- Affinity Designer Workbook
- Affinity Photo Workbook

Gordon432 reacted to AlanShore in Introduce Yourself
Hello. My nickname is Alan Shore. I am Belgian, retired, and passionate about graphics. Following three strokes, my memory abilities were greatly affected. So I use Affinity software to remuster my brain and keep it a minimum of functionality.
My mother tongue is French, but thanks to Google Translate, I speak and understand English very well and also lots of other languages :). If you want the forum in French, follow this link
Feel free to ask me questions about Affinity's programs, it forces me to look for answers and it fills my loneliness.
Friendships to you all.

Gordon432 reacted to Cailean in Drop Shadow?
Thanks Dan.
It's unbelievable that such a fantastic piece of graphics kit doesn't have a drop shadow effect!
Ok, I know that I can use the outer shadow effect and mess around with the settings, but messing around with the settings to achieve a basic effect like a drop shadow is inefficient in otherwise fast software.
I'm sure I'm not alone in looking for a basic effect like drop shadow in Publisher and it must be included in a future update.
I also think the other effects worked better in Page Plus than in Publisher.

Gordon432 reacted to Cailean in Drop Shadow?
I'm an Indesign convert to Affinity Publisher and I'm still finding my way around. I've also been a user of Pageplus from the first "Tiger logo" version and up to version X9. I really like the new affinity suite and it's much more professional in every way.
However, I can't find that old bastion of graphics software, the drop Shadow either as an effect or as a tool in Publisher. I'm probably staring at it, but I can't see it, please help.
Also is there some way to add a small non printing notepad page on the canvas outside my design, so that I can type notes about the effects, fonts and info that I've used for future reference?

Gordon432 reacted to Cailean in Drop Shadow?
Hi, thanks for your help, the pasteboard is a great idea. However I still can't find a drop shadow effect. It was listed in Pageplus X9 in the FX panel, but it's not listed in Affinity Publisher. Outer shadow is not the effect that I'm looking for. Please see the screenshot from X9. Drop shadow is highlighted in blue in the X9 screenshot.

Gordon432 reacted to 000 in New eMail Discussion
I don't want to be a buzzkill, but mailing lists are EXTREMELY old fashioned, not at all spontanious, much slower and harder to use than a forum (for one you have to dig through a lot of mails each day, whereas in a forum you can easily set reminders just for the topics you are interested in and even activate mail alerts if you want to).
Also, many mailing lists have additional advertising and spam included nowadays -- it is very easy (and for the admin very tempting) to simply post ads or offers once they have a collection of personal mail addresses (including the permission to send mails to everyone).
In addition you seem to be a very new member, and, sorry to say that, I personally would not trust you with my email address or any other contact details, simply because it looks as if you just registered to this forum to start pushing your email list and tout for the service you are using to run it -- I might be wrong here, but I do advise you to build some trust by participating in the discussions here, answering questions and talking to people before asking for personal information.
Last but not least, I am sure it's not in anyones interest to split this community up and form an email splinter group -- this forum is a great source of knowledge and information regarding the Affinity software as well as first line of contact to the developers. Are you seriously trying to convince people, there is a better way to get answers to questions than to communicate directly with the people who create the software (and I'm not only talking about Serifs stellar support team members but also about the actual programmers running around and helping in these forums!)?
What you are doing here is comparable to walking into a hotel lobby, drinking the complementary water and walking around with a large sign for your B&B around your neck -- very bad style.

Just learning about the assets panel. Started testing it out. Transferred over a bunch of SM icons from AI to create this asset for AD. Added in case anyone has a use.
Curious if anyone else has any asset compilations of useful parts they would like to share

I'm John, a PrePress operator from Seattle. I'm giving Publisher a try, in part to be prepared in case a customer starts to use it. (The other part is that I'm a cheapskate and haven't upgraded my personal Adobe software in ages. I'm tired of switching operating systems just to do some creative work.)

Gordon432 reacted to Donuk in Introduce Yourself
Just joined and just discovered, and then purchased Affinity Photo.
I am retired and a keen photographer (I use Olympus - like a small camera). I spend most of my time oil painting for commission and exhibitions.
I used Photoshop for many years on Windows. Now on Mac. It is just too expensive. And so far find Affinity as good. Having uninstalled Photoshop from my Mac I find that Bridge still works as a photo sorting software and have configured it to open in Affinity.
What software do you guys recommend for photo management?
Also, I discovered - I suppose it is a policy of yours - it is not possible to sign up to this forum with a VPN installed. Why is this??
I look forward to getting to know you all and Affinity better.
Donuk
