    Exactly same thing here. Straighten and Rotate function does not work on version 1.7.3. MacOS 10.14.6 on Mac Book Pro. Reading the posts carefully I noticed that for me also "paste" after using the straighten tool. I noticed that what makes "paste" is a Mac application called PopClip Recently (09/29/19) PopClip was updated when my problems started. Turning off PopClip everything in Affinity Photo is back to normal. Hope this helps.
