  1. This makes no sense at all, I mean the random opening of files, not the comment. I’ve never had any application doing such a thing, this needs improvement.
  2. I tend to disagree! I did an exercise to check the validity of your statement, I selected six files opened them and wrote down the order they were opened. I closed all six files. I repeated the above four times, and had four different order of files opened: A) 5-3-4-2-1-6 B) 4-6-1-3-5-2 C) 1-2-3-4-5-6 only by a chance! D)1-2-3-4-6-5 That simply disproves your theory. Also, in my opinion files not opened in the requested order is not an improvement, it’s exactly the contrary, especially when the order of opened files is totally random without any logic whatsoever. I have a reason why I want to open those six files in the order requested. Those files are snapshots of Sudoku problems from the digital form of my daily newspaper, having all of them almost the same size, from 984x988 to 986x992 pixels. So, I think that is a bug in the program.
  3. Every Sunday I open a set of six jpeg or tiff files (it doesn’t matter what format). Regardless of the order I select them (hey are all in the same subfolder), they open in random order, never the same from one week to another. The names of the files contain the dates they were created - from Monday to Saturday, for example today is November 15th, so the filename contains the following: 201115, etc. That way I know the order of opened files is random and different from one week to another, even if I select them in the same order or not. That should not happen, and it is a bug in the program.
  4. Thank you Dan for your effort to help me. I am a novice Affinity Photo user, but a very experienced computer user, I switched to Apple computers eleven years ago, after using Windows for decades. That was the best move I’ve ever done related to computers. What I remember is, that in the past I had several files opened when I quit Affinity Photo. When I reopened it, there was no time delay. Regardless, your suggestion made sense, so I did whatever I was suggested (unticking Reopen Documents on Startup), closed all photo files (I don’t like the term “document" applied to photo files, they are anything but documents), quit and re-opened Affinity Photo. No change, the time of opening was the same, about 40 to 45 seconds, no files were opened. Strange, very strange . . . Not a big deal, it’s just a bit annoying. I can keep Affinity Photo open at all times, I leave my iMac open all the time, it just goes to sleep every night, so this problem does not bug me very often, but still, I would like to get to the bottom of it. Question: would the re-installation of Affinity Photo help with this issue? Do I have anything to loose re-installing Affinity Photo?
  5. Affinity opens a photo file while it launches. I have not installed any additional fonts on my computer. In the past Affinity photo did open really fast, only now it’s a bit slow.
  6. I use the latest 27” iMac purchased about two months ago, and OS X 10.14.6. I haven’t used Affinity Photo for about two weeks. Today I wanted to start Affinity Photo and it took almost one minute to get started. I checked Activity Monitor, the memory pressure was acceptable, about 40% of memory was still free. I had about six other applications open, that’s what I had in the past, and I didn’t have to wait that long to open Affinity Photo. I quit all non essential applications, leaving only Finder, Mail and Safari open, but the result was the same. Fortunately this is not a major issue, but it’s a bit annoying. Any ideas how to improve this situation?
  7. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I have Version 1.7.3 of Affinity Photo and even in the Help section searching for “rectangle” what description I get is somewhat different from what I have. #2 Selection From Layer does not put a selection around the outer edges of the image. Basically it does nothing visible to the image. I need two borders, one internal white border about 1.5mm width all around, then a 4mm black border all around. I’ve already found a way to do it without using the very confusing rectangle tool, and as I said it’s more complicated than doing it in Photoshop, and it’s not possible to create a macro for doing it automatically, but it works and I can live with it. Here it is: 1. Resize the canvas to create an empty border of 1.5mm all around the image. I couldn’t figure out how to add that one to a macro. 2. Add a pixel layer and fill it with white. The whole image will be white, but there is nothing to worry about. 3. Move this layer to the bottom of the layers stack. 4. Repeat the procedure to create a 4mm black outer border.
  8. Thank you for your help, in meantime I found a third way to do just that. Bring up the Resize Document window in the Documents pulldown menu, and the information is right there.
  9. Many thanks to all responders who tried to help me, but finally I found a way to do that. There are several videos on youtube about how to create a single border. After creating one, create another one with a different colour fill using the same procedure. It is not as simple as in Photoshop, but it works. In Photoshop I can create an action to do that, but it’s not that simple to create a macro in Affinity Photo to automate this procedure for a reason which is difficult to explain in a few written words. Based on my previous Photoshop experience of writing actions it was easy for me to create two macros in Affinity Photo for High Pass sharpening of photos. Anyone interested how to do that please notify me, I am ready to help. In many instances that sharpening procedure gives better results than unsharp mask (which I don’t quite like).
  10. I tried fx with the settings as indicated but I didn’t see any change in the photo, no border, no nothing regardless of what colour I chose. By the way instead of “Rectangle” in the brackets I had “Pixel” in the brackets.
  11. To create a single border using Affinity Photo is easy, but I want to create two borders. What I want to do is to create an "internal" white all around border of about 1 to 2mm, then an "external" black all around border of about 3 to 4mm. In Photoshop that's very easy, but I couldn't figure out how to do it in Affinity Photo. Any suggestions?
  12. How do I check the DPI of a photo in Affinity? I couldn't find any way to do that important checking.
  13. Two days ago I downloaded a trial version of Affinity Photo, and so far I like it very much, but there is a feature in Photoshop I couldn’t find in Affinity Photo. In Photoshop the Cloning or the Healing brush can be used to have all the changes made on a separate layer by creating an empty layer and clicking on “sample all layers”. This way all changes are shown only on the empty layer, so I can go back and if I don’t like any of the adjustments I can simply erase that from the top layer and redo it again. I would like to know if this feature is available in Affinity Photo, and if yes, then how to use it.
