Next morning and the problem seems to have resolved itself. The app comes up very snappy and I am un-discouraged. -

I have a similar problem. I have just transferred everything from my old Dell (Win 10) to my new one (Win 11) with PCmover. In this,I have had no problem reactivating and updating with the Designer and Publisher apps. However, with the Photo app, it appears and then totally stalls with "Loading fonts". I have never had this problem before and have used this app since the early days; I published my memoirs with Affinity Publisher. I downloaded and uninstalled and reinstalled repeatedly. I do have a large number of fonts parked on an old edition of FontBase (free ed). Well, what do you know, the app finally came up after about four or five minutes. Rather discouraging. -

Great, thanks for your help, Chris,S, and Carl123. I know that I have a lot yet to learn about color management and how these brush controls interact. I've got lots of time to learn (I'm only 87), but it's a relief to learn that the application is only acting as it is programmed to do and that I have to adapt to it and not it to me.

Following your directions, carl123, this is the result. Definitely better, but is it me, but I'm not sure about the red (slightly orange?) and the green (slightly lime?). What is your response?

Interesting. I was just using any brush at random. Knocking the Hue Jitter down to 0% results in an orange color, but not quite red and I think no cigar yet.

Thanks, Chris, for your suggestion but, no, I can't see any 'Clean Brush' button at the top, just the adjustments for the Paint Brush Tool. To me It's kind of weird.
-
I am no expert, but isn't something wrong here? The tool chosen is the paint brush tool and RGB for the color choice. But when the red slider in the color panel is set at 255 and the green and blue at 0, this yellow color is what the brush lays down, as if this is set at CMYK.

Incidentally, the colors seem fine with the shape tool used with the color and swatches panels ; it only takes place with the brush when used with these panels. -

So far I have rebooted my computer, installed new update (1.8.4) and restarted the application and tried a different sized document. The panels still show the same behavior and I am getting desperate. Can anyone help me? Are there any other avenues I can explore? I simply can't use AF in this condition. -

thanks. I see what you mean, I'll use the PNG in the future in forums like this. But I still have the problem of the RGB, if you have further suggestions -

I'm sorry, but it seems to be as it appears on the screen and I'm not sure what banding you refer to -
