Although it may seem impossible, I’ve seen this before. Apologies if I hadn’t reported it: I thought I had! My impression is that it’s always been related to ‘Erase’ blend mode but I’m not entirely sure.

All very puzzling! I hope you manage to find a solution.

Thanks for your help and patience. That didn't work either. Feel free to not even reply to this any more.

It works for me, so I don’t understand why it still isn’t working for you! Try setting the blend mode for each of the two layers to ‘Normal’ before performing the subtraction: you don’t need ‘Erase’ blend mode for this, and it might just be messing things up.

Select the skull layer and the cross layer, go to the Edit (‘…’) menu and choose ‘Geometry > Subtract’.

Select the cross layer with the Node Tool and then tap on the ‘Reverse’ button on the Context toolbar. You should now find that the subtraction works as expected.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me: I did exactly as instructed and it again deleted both the cross and the skull.

    (for example)
Your antman-1.jpg image is 1000x1000px which you resize on your website to be 336x336px
All the report is saying is that if you use a 336x336px image instead of the 1000x1000px image your website will load faster
You can do that in APhoto simply by opening the image then Document > Resize to 336x336px
Then File > Export to generate the new jpg file.
(The above commands are for the desktop version of APhoto not sure of the equivalent actions on an iPad)
Pay attention to the quality slider on the export screen which affects the final file size and quality. You adjust this downwards to get a file size and quality for the image you are happy with - unfortunately, there is no preview screen for this so it is just down to experience and trial-and-error, a setting of 85% is a good starting point)
The above is the simple answer to your query, there are far better tools out there to minimize jpg files for use on websites if you are trying to maximize the speed that your website loads.  But they are usually only needed when you have an image-heavy page and need to minimize aggressively to get your page-load speed down to as low as possible.
You can also use the following Google tools to analyze your website to see what else you can do to improve your site's speed.

    Hi writesync
You certainly can - you can open images either from Files or your Photo library directly in Affinity Designer, then resize the document and export out to your preferred format (even saving back to the Photos library if you wish!)
I've attached a quick screen recording below showing this process -
    RPReplay_Final1572625110.MP4 I hope this helps!

Yes, it helped! Thank you. I didn’t know iOS could do that.

    Hi writesync
You shouldn't, but this usually depends on the origin of the SVG. For example I visited https://freesvgdesigns.com/ and downloaded an SVG file from here. This downloaded as a .ZIP file, provided you're running iOS 13 then Files can automatically unzip this file, if you're using an earlier version of iOS you'll need to download a separate app to unzip the file.
Once unzipped, the SVG can be selected in Files and you can either drag and drop the SVG from Files directly into Affinity, or alternatively from within the Affinity app press the new document + icon and select Import from Cloud. Now navigate to the folder location where the SVG has been saved and open the file from here.
    I hope this helps!
