I was installed both versions on two PC's - it was flawless, also as previous installations. I notice it can depends from system environment settings. If i set the TEMP drive to SSD - it do not installing. But when the TEMP is system default - it is total ok. I reported some time about such issue.

The attached screenshot is from 1.8.3.641 (Windows). If the panel is not visible, make it visible from View -> Studio. Use the dropdown for more areas. You can make your edits in File, IPTC (image), IPTC (contact) and Rights.

Ctrl to clone selected objects, a selection isn't an object until it's been copied and pasted after that you can clone it

4EverMaAT reacted to nwhit in What's the easiest way to apply a blur around the edge of an image?
SOLVED! Stumbled across the Layer/New Live Filter/Depth of Field Filter. This is, essentially, the typical and common blur vignette, but also has the option for the "Tiny Town"/Tilt-Shift effect.

IMPORTANT: Took me a while to figure out why I was getting a white border around my picture after applying the filter. Apparently you need to check the Preserve Alpha option in the adjustment pane. Not covered in the Help, but found a reference to it in the forum.

The question mark is telling you Affinity cannot find that font, i.e. it's reporting as missing.

That's odd.   Could have saved me a post.

4EverMaAT reacted to Frozen Death Knight in Affinity Photo - Constrain drawing tools to straight lines
The feature to draw straight horizontal and vertical lines got added in a few builds ago in the 1.7 Beta by holding down shift when drawing (at least I know it works on Windows). It works just like it does in Photoshop. Should probably put this topic to rest now.

Click, hold down the shift key, don't move your mouse and click again and drag while holding down the shift key.
Done. You can drag either horizontally, or vertically.

I have requested this same Tool a year ago in some other thread. Glad to see others having the same issue.
This is exactly what I need. Photoshop has it, Procreate has it, and even Krita and many other no name creative softwares are having this simple but powerful tool. Also the pen tool (Line mode) is not really intuitive and only works for the pen, not the brush. Too much clicking involved. If Serif would add such tool....they would get more attention from the digital artists community (not only them). Quick Lines with the brush tool would give us the possibility to set up complex drawings/compositions in a very short time. As you have maybe heard the news from procreate: they are now offering Quick Shapes...that is insane (positively) and useful. I'm using it myself. Of course, I do not ask for the same tool like Quick Shapes. Serif: we would be happy if you would just add quick straight line function to the brush tool (without needing to double-clicking, shifting, and whatsnot). That would be a great start. ^^

Just created an account here to say that for me this is a deal-breaker.  It's heart-breaking because I've been playing with the AP trial for an hour or two and I was so excited to have finally found a package I could use like Photoshop (but without the subscription/ridiculous price) ... and then it tripped up on this simple feature of all things.  That's pretty shocking.
Serif: Seriously, this missing feature just lost you a sale from an otherwise keen customer :'(  I'm off to look at Photoshop yearly subscription prices so that I can draw a horizontal line.

It's a shame that this simple feature still does not exist in Affinty Photo. Please Serif, implement this as it is indeed a very handy feature. Not only for drawing straight lines, it's also useful for (manual) selections and/ or masks. Without such a feature it's a pain in the a... to draw along a straight line/ edge.

I understand the utility in the method you describe, but I do think there is also value in the simpler approach as well, as it is less cumbersome and more fluid for sketching purposes, allowing for gradual layering of value, coverage, grain, gradients, while also not interrupting the overall experience of drawing as much as a procedure that would require multiple steps (in your case it would be a matter of initiating a "press", "align" and "release" action with your fingers in that order, as opposed to just a "press" or a "release" at the respective ends of the period spent working in the constrained mode).

It is also worth keeping in mind that, as demonstrated in Corel Painter, 45-degree diagonal angles could easily be supported as well within the same modifier-behaviour utilised in Photoshop. Straight lines could also be made arbitrarily by clicking between end points with the modifier key activated.

Perhaps there is a way to enable all solutions, depending on the users preferences?

But thank you for adding your voice to this thread. Yes, we need that function … so badly …  :)  ^_^

locked background layer (or any layer) should not accept changes.  But instead if a change is made, a new layer should be made (or prompted to the user) to "hold" these changes, while leaving the locked layer untouched.
I took the eraser brush tool and I was able to erase part of the background layer while it was locked.   So then what is the purpose of the lock tool if the layer is not truly locked?   Or is my interpretation of layer locking incorrect?
