  1. HI All, I recently purchased all three programs and moved to Windows 10 OS. I have a new PC so I'm starting from scratch - installing fonts onto my system. I'm still using Adobe CS6 products while I transition to Affinity, I have a lot of print files (Magazines, Ads, Flyers etc.) which use specific fonts that I have to continue using so in order to move I have to be able to access the font files in Affinity. I have hundreds of fonts Truetype, Open Type and Postscript Type 1. The installed fonts all showed up in my Adobe Suite but not in Affinity? I use FontExpert to manage installs but I have also tried installing directly to Win10 fonts folder. The results are quite random. I get a different (Limited) selection of installed fonts each time I open a program - and never the full range of typeface options (Light, medium, regular, bold etc) Is there a setting I am missing to activate the installed fonts? Any solutions welcome? Thanks in advance
  2. Thanks Lagarto and Chris B. I have learnt a lot from this process. I haven't had to think much about installing fonts before. It looks like the issue may be solved. I uninstalled all fonts from Windows (Except system fonts) I ran every file I had for Helvetica fonts through TransType4 (which were stored in various folders) . Including .PFM and .PFB. I got a few pink assignments at first, but as I kept adding files they all went away. I'm assuming the file info may have got mixed up during multiple copies? Anyhow the end result was totally clean list in TransType4... I converted them to OpenType PS.otf. and directed them all to a single folder. However they ended up splitting into many folders each containing 1-4 styles. So it was a bit laborious to go through and install them individually but I did it anyway. I didn't need all styles but I wanted to see if they all listed. After a restart I opened AFDesigner (Beta) and Publisher (older version) and all fonts are now listed correctly and in Families. 79 styles listed under Helvetica Neue. They also now appear in the Windows 10 Font list. I did all of this with the Trial version of TT4 but I'm going to buy it because I don't want to convert and install everything right now. I'm hoping that everything remains stable from now on. Really appreciate all the advice Gentlemen - I had no idea how to fix the problem. Cheers.
  3. Thanks for suggestions. I only have a Type 1 version of Helvetica, Helvetica Neue and Frutiger. I installed them individually and there aren't any name conflicts with TTF or OTF's. Apart from the Windows system fonts I have only installed 4 new fonts on my new PC at this stage. The Frutiger styles have always appeared on the Affinty list, but Helvetica is consistently 'inconsistent'. Both fonts are Type 1. I opened up latest beta version 1.8 today and complete list of installed Helvetica styles was available - so I will check again tomorrow. I'll check out Trans Type if the problem continues.
  4. I have probably copied these files onto at least 5 PC's over the last 20 years. Originally I had them on a disk but the last time I copied from a flash drive. My last PC, I only installed from the Type 1 file through a font manager or direct from the Win 7 install.
  5. Thanks Chris. I'm really baffled now. I've installed Frutiger from the files I sent to you - they all show up. Only one or two of the Helvetica and Helvetica Neue styles show up. Did you manage to get all Helvetica fonts to install? Can you share your installation process and are you using Win 10? Yes I completely uninstalled the Font Manager. Just using the Windows installation method.
  6. Thanks Chris. I'd be happy to send the fonts. There are a lot and I don't intend installing all of them in the future. Many are Adobe fonts from 20 years ago - most of them still install and work in CS6. But if you don't mind checking them out I'll send all. Cheers.
  7. Hi Chris B. There are 282 fonts in the folder. Most of them are fonts that came with Win 10. I bought a new PC a couple of months ago and I have been gradually installing fonts as I need them for client work. Trying to keep the new system clutter free! At this stage I've added 8 Fonts with approx 110 styles. I uninstalled the third party font manager a few weeks ago. I have set some of the system fonts to Hide - but they still show up in Designer? Which is annoying because I have to scroll through a lot of fonts I never use. The hidden fonts also show up in Adobe Illustrator so can't complain about that I guess. Just noticed another strange thing. I have installed Flexo Heavy, it's the only style I own. It showed up on the list as Flexo and Flexo Medium, but only the Heavy style was available? See below...
  8. Another day...opened new beta version and fonts missing again. Seems to be such a random issue. Nothing has changed on the rest of my system. CS6 still loads all fonts. I've noticed that a window opens occasionally saying 'new font added to cache' (or something like that) This happens without any instruction from me - I'm not installing a font at the time. Could Affinity suite be losing fonts from the cache after a PC shutdown? Because everyday seems to be a different list.
  9. I am using 1.7.2 as below. I was using Font Expert with Adobe CS6 but I uninstalled recently. CS6 has developed all sorts of problems running on the new system with Win 10 - missing palettes, and many other issues. So I'm really keen to shift to Affinity. I've installed 1.7.3 beta and opened the program 10 times with all fonts successfully loading!!! So the new version may have solved the problem. Thanks for your help.
  10. Opened up Affinity today and fonts have gone from list again. Still showing in Windows Fonts folder though. Am I the only person with this problem. The entire font list shows up in Adobe s0 I'm not sure if this is a Windows issue or Affinity?
  11. Thanks again for your response. The Font settings box was unchecked so all fonts are visible as I understand it . Strangely some fonts I tried to hide in the fonts folder (accessed through Control Panel) still showed up when accessed through - Settings > Personalization > Fonts. I have uninstalled Font Expert and installed fonts using Windows 'install for all users'. I'm holding my breath but so far that seems to be working. Maybe Font Expert was causing the problem? Really appreciate the help. Cheers.
  12. In Windows Fonts folder under 'Font Embeddability' some files show as Editable and others Installable - both are accessible in Adobe software but only the Editable are consistently shown in Affinity programs. The Installable fonts are the ones that appear randomly - so is it a Windows issue or Affinity?
  13. I spoke too soon. Opened programs 3 times today and each time I got a different list of newly installed Helvetica. (OTF and Type 1) The windows system fonts always show up but the installed fonts vary. See attached images.
  14. Thanks for the reply. It appears the problem is with Windows 10 and some fonts not installing correctly to the Fonts folder. Maybe FontExpert is out of date or incompatible. I've tried the 'drag and drop to install' method (Settings>Personalization>Fonts) but that seems inconsistent. But right clicking and choosing 'install for all users' seems to do the trick. Thanks again for your help. Cheers Chris

    Introduce Yourself

Hi all, my name is Chris from Auckland New Zealand. I've been in the industry for a long time - way before computers took over the design process. After 20 years as a creative in Advertising, I got out and set up a small design business. I've been using Adobe products since CS2 and bought CS6 as Adobe moved to the subscription business model. I stuck with Windows 7 until recently - the end of support in January 2020 forced me to upgrade to Win 10. I had been looking for an alternative to Adobe because an earlier attempt to run CS6 on Win 10 had been a disaster and cost me $500 for an IT guy to fix. I found Serif by chance on a youtube video and after a bit of research I bought Photo, Designer and Publisher - I'm hoping they will replace PSD, AI and INDD as these are the programs I use every day. So far I've limited my training to Affinity Designer as I have a project that includes a lot of isometric illustrations. It's taking a bit of time to adjust and lose the urge to complete a task using AI methods but the more I learn, the more I like it. Right now I'm just hungry for as many tutorials as I can find. Looking forward to incorporating the whole package into my workflow. Cheers all
