  1. I believe this video from Affinity Revolution demonstrates the bug and how to work around it. Watch from 7m.30s in: How to Create Perfect Selections in Affinity Photo
  2. It was an issue I had with the Serif applications as well. I got used to having to re find my PDFs exported from DrawX8! A 'fix' would be good.
  3. Could it be the lack of support in APub for embedded fonts that is causing the problem? There are many threads on the subject here. My work around is to open the PDF (NOT in an Affinity App) and print to a PDF but going to advanced settings to ensure that NO fonts are embedded. I use the Foxit Reader PDF Printer driver and do the following from the print dialogue: Properties- Default settings (High Quality Print) Image Resolution 300 - Click Edit Select Fonts > Select Don't Embed any fonts (you can choose to save this profile) Save as - Use original file name+ NOT EMBEDDED Import THIS pdf into Affinity publisher. I've also tried doing the above using Inkscape (which has an export PDF feature) but I found that it was more fiddly some of the graphics were missing and I needed to edit the result.
  4. I has a similar issue in which what I thought was 100% black was not in fact. The problem was due to me copying and pasting text from another source (Google Doc / MS Word). I have now created a base style that explicitly sets CMYK to 0,0,0,100 to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
  5. To clarify I open the PDF in an app (non Serif) that does display embedded fonts and create (print) from there.
  6. I am sure the developers are reading this and other threads and are are being influenced in terms of the roadmap priorities.
  7. I've had success using the Auto Trace function in Serif DrawPlus X8 and then coping and pasting into Affinity.
  8. My workaround is to open the PDF and export it out again but setting the option to not embed fonts. In other words, I convert the fonts to curves.
  9. The ability to create a Preset when exporting to PDF for my commercial printer is great. However the preset does not include the facility to store the area to be exported and I have to manually remember to change this from All Spreads (the default) to All Pages. A request for the Preset to include the area to exported as I often forget to check this when exporting,
  10. I hear what you are saying but a lot of my imported (from Google docs) content includes restricted formatting (bold and italics) that I would prefer to include rather than have to go through and manually update.
  11. I need it too and judging by the number of posts (including useful suggestions for workarounds) on these forums so do others.
  12. I feel your pain as the lack of Pdf pass through is a major issue for me too and you will see many posts on here about it.The place option doesn’t work as I expect. Having tried a few workarounds my preferred one in terms of ease and reliability is to open the pdf and create another pdf but turning off the option to embed fonts. Try a few pdf creators until you find that offers this option and creates reliable results. Using Inkscapes pdf export worked ok but unlike the above method still required the final missing some elements. Some here suggested extracting fonts from the pdf using an online tool but that didn’t work for me.
  13. Sorry. What I meant was that some of the text I had imported had to be changed from C:68 M:67 Y:65 K:74 to C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 I am now trying to get to grips with the style handling process and am cleaning them up. I has assumed that "default" starting style was ""base style" but I was able to delete that and was left with "No Style" which cannot be deleted. If so that makes sense to me.
  14. I had exactly the same problem when copying and pasting a text file from Word. My commercial printer spotted it and had to manually go through the affected pages and change the font colour to registration black.
  15. It has taken me some time to get my head round this as well. Differences between... Selecting a text frame vs selecting text Making changes to paragraphs vs character styles Getting my head round style handling (character and paragraph) and creating my own styles as well as adding text frames to assets really helped me jump to the next level. Still a way to go though.
  16. I agree. The place option should imho use the embedded fonts. Opening a pdf directly should offer options to use embedded fonts or replacing them. This is Publishers biggest failing for me.
  17. If you want PM me the pdf I can try my method and you can compare the end result with the Inkscape method .
