  1. Thank you folks, those are good suggestions. I tried the method "layer mask" first and this does what I want 🙂
  2. I like Affinity however I use it infrequently so my skill level has risen very slowly and I get stuck on what I believe are simple tasks. I have read the help pages and the FAQ topics here without finding my topic which is cropping within a document. I have created a photo document into which I have pasted two images. I wish to crop one of the images. I seem to be able to crop the complete document but that is not what I want to do, I want to "trim" one of the images while it remains within the document. It is probably something quick and simple, can someone provide guidance please? There is a related question which is about creating a layer that functions as a matte that overlays an image, the matte is the same size as the document outline and simply has a window cut out of it, this is kind of like inverse cropping, how should I proceed? Thanks Ted in NY
  3. Thank you. Yes I found those sources myself and while they cover the basic clone operation, which might be called "spot mode" in which the destination is a single mouse click, unfortunately I found nothing about the behavior of the system when operating in "drag mode" in which the destination is a region that begins with a mouse click and is extended with the cursor. It seems to me to be likely that in drag mode some things happen that are very smart, and, once mastered permit sophisticated clone editing. Unfortunately, in the absence of any guidance on the rules for the definition of the source as the mouse is dragged, I personally find the behavior bewildering, but at the same time would like to learn how to use it. It seems probable that within AFFINITY the knowledge of clone-drag-rules exists and this information may be documented somewhere. Can you help locate it?
  4. Thank you, yes that's the view I am seeking, a tiled display. I was hoping to find an automatic feature rather than manually manipulating each window. I could swear that a couple of times the display became tiled automatically, but it must be my memory playing tricks! Thanks anyway.
  5. I am looking for an explanation (preferably in writing) of the way this operates, in detail, especially when using drag, the interaction of the start-click location with the source location and the drag end click, with and without aligned source. It seems likely this is a powerful and sophisticated tool that I don't know how to drive, I keep being tripped up by unexpected results, sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. Perhaps this is documented someplace?
  6. The system seems to be working fine, I use it for picture editing at home, but I am stumped by a simple task, a very simple task, but I can't find the right button to press. I want several images open in the main image view window side by side in view simultaneously, docked, possibly this is called a tiled display. How is this done? The system has done this once or twice without my knowing how it occurred ! Any clues?
