I don't see any optimization features in the export dialog in Affinity Photo 1.7 nor any traces of optimization in the files it produces.
Photoshop performs better when saving in medium quality even with standard encoding. Choosing optimized (with optimized Huffman encoding) significantly reduces file sizes. The files from Photoshop attached looks much better. Much better.
What is also a life saver in Photoshop is a preview of the resulting image quality as you adjust the quality slider. Who knows the result of 70% before seeing the result?
Examples of a 8-bit TIFF gradient saved in various modes in Photoshop and Affinity Photo... in 100% quality and then 50%.
Out website has millions and millions of visitors every year. Every kilobyte matters bandwidth-wise. It obviously affects page loading speed as well. We have tons of images with bokeh - out of focus areas - and the JPG-rendering of those areas is critical. It has to look good and the file size must be as small as possible.
So Affinity Photo as of September 2019 for serious web use ... well, make your own conclusions based on your website and total bandwidth.
Examples attached. None generated by Save for web. Regular Save As and Export As.
    Originals 50%
    Originals 100%

    Hi,
If I export the file attached in Affinity Photo the exported file size gets very big. So I compared it with my old Photoshop CS4 and got this results:
    ps cs4
    jpeg 75%: 551 kb
    png-8: 475 kb
    af 1.7.2
    jpeg 75%: 1.36 mb
    png-8: 634 kb
Why the compression in Affinity Photo is so worse? Is there no 'save for web' function in Affinity Photo?

mpower9 got a reaction from Lee D in Photo opens, closes when loading file or new doc
Thanks, Lee D. I changed the Renderer from NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M to Default (Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 and Photo allowed me to set up a new file and also to open an existing plain vanilla jpg image. Now I can finally get on with learning the program.
I have purchased all three Affinity programs to replace my aged Adobe CS4 programs that are getting increasingly cranky running on Windows 10. My usual MO when learning a new program is to use it for an actual project, but Photo stopped me in my tracks and I had to revert to Adobe to get it done.
I am the little old lady "graphic designer", "webmistress", and the only person in out all volunteer nonprofit who does not believe that a computer is just a typewriter with a screen. I was feeling even more inadequate than usual when I couldn't even get the program to stay open. (I regard it as a personal failure when I have to contact tech support.)
Nothing personal, but hopefully we will not have to become BFFs . Thanks again.

Open the app, but not a document then go Edit > Preferences > Performance. Check to see what the Renderer is set to, try changing to one of the other options closing and reopening. If this doesn't help try checking for any crash reports in the below location to see if any match when Photo is closing on your system
From the Run Dialog, In this folder you will find Crash Reports generated by our apps. Please send us the .dmp file with the latest Created/Modified Date.   Affinity Photo %APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports

Hello I am requesting the option to change the UI size/scale. For example to make the tool icons on the left larger as I have a pixel-dense display. Thank you!
