  1. Old post. Me hunting and hoping for Android compatibility. There literally are no decent design / art programs on Android. Which is unfortunate with Chromebooks supporting Android apps now. Literally every child I know uses a Chromebook. My son thinks windows and macs are lame. That the iPhones and iPads are for old people.
  2. Sad that Android always seems to lack advanced art tools. Adobe even outputs substandard apps. Games perform outstanding on Android, and the screens are often better than iOS. I wish Serif would consider Android. You'd be supporting Chromebooks as well.
  3. Where I think this would be HUGE is on Chromebooks. The next generation is not using Windows or Apple products. They are using Chromebooks. And the kids love them. They are simple, and elegant with a clean and intuitive interface. And now with Android apps on them they are basically full computers. My own son absolutely hates Windows, and Mac OS. He thinks they are "too busy". Chromebooks do lack many "power" apps like Illustrator, Designer, Photo, etc. It's fairly simple to install Linux and run applications in "Window mode" within Chrome OS. Ideally it would be interesting to see Affinity products on Android, but locked into Chromebooks, or Tablet dimensions.
  4. I'm looking forward to the PSD export updates. Please shout loud when the beta is available.
  5. Correct. It's the coined term in UI design for the iconography used for menus (generally in mobile apps). The hamburger menu is a much debated design choice. Thanks for visiting my thread.
  6. Agreed. I made a few changes to tweak the overall feel. I've uploaded it to Pixelapse here: https://www.pixelapse.com/briannhinton/projects/musicplayer/overview for anyone to download and explore. And it's been posted on Dribbble: https://dribbble.com/shots/1823909-Music-Player-UI I updated the original post, and attached the image.
  7. It seems that when we select multiple separate text objects in Affinity Designer that the align tools, etc appear, and replace the ability to change the font settings for multiple selections. This is a huge deal, and incredibly annoying as I tend to bounce around between different fonts, and sizes during UI design projects. Normally I use Text Styles, but in the early phases I do select multiple text objects.
  8. There are tons of examples on Dribbble. And vector brushes allow fine media style artwork to be created that is scalable for large print projects, and that is incredibly useful.
  9. https://dribbble.com/shots/1809240-Music-Player-UI-NCD2014 Just a project I did for NDC 2014. I don't have a lot of time to work on personal work, but I'm trying to find the time. Most of my work is internal, and private unfortunately. This was my first serious go at using Affinity Designer for a project. It was a decent experience, but I did miss a few key things.
  10. I still think it would be a good idea to add a shape builder. It's a fast way to mock up logos, and both Serif Draw / Illustrator have it. It allows for the creation of some complex forms that aren't easily possible with normal boolean operations.
  11. Yes @Raskolnikov it really slows down the creative process.
  12. I'm putting this topic in the feature requests section since it's likely that it will mostly be about feature requests. I did some logo work over the weekend, and tried to incorporate Designer as much as I could. I came across some workflow annoyances, and I ended up switching back and forth with Sketch (on that note SVG export / import work fairly well): 1. I'm sure this will change, but not having shortcut access to many features is quite annoying, and slows down my workflow. 2. Sketch's radius tools have changed my workflow so much that not having them is difficult. Essentially they let me set a precise "radius" of a node to adjust it's "rounding". It's particularly nice when a precise, and exact visual appearance is required. 3. Expand stroke not working was a huge annoyance as it's a tool I use frequently. But I know it's coming. 4. Maybe I just couldn't find it, but I saw no way to control stroke placement (inside, outside, center). Again this is functionality I use frequently. 5. Brush defaults scale with resolution. I know we haven't seen a lot of love on the pixel front (since most changes I've seen are vector), but it would be wonderful if some sort of default awareness of brush sizes existed. What I mean is a minimum default diameter based on the document resolution. I often switch back, and forth creating new documents to sketch in (something awesome with Designer having pixel features!), and having to adjust the diameter of the brush WAY up, or way down is something that maybe could be improved. Btw does a shortcut key combination exist that brings up any sort of mini brush control box under cursor?
  13. This was my original idea, and how I presented it in my feature request. (linked to above) I'd also welcome the guide appearing on hovering over the corresponding ruler. This is incredibly useful to quickly check alignment without having to create a guide, and unnecessary visual clutter. I've attached a gif that illustrates the guide on hover, and it also shows the pixel guide (as requested here: that Sketch provides that are incredibly useful. The tool + ruler guide feature, and the distance based guides are probably the two tools I'd miss the most if I switched to Designer from Sketch. And would probably prevent me from using Designer at work since precision is key with UI design.
  14. Which I think is wrong. Right now I'd say it's one of the most frustrating limitations. You have to constantly switch to the move tool to access guide creation. Illustrator, Sketch, etc don't require the move tool to be active. It's a weird quirk that is a bad design choice, and UX.
  15. Currently guides can only be dragged in when the Move Tool (v) is active. It's much more flexible to have them available anytime the cursor is hovering over the rulers. A guide can be selected from a ruler, and moved no matter what tool is selected. Another good tweak/addition would be guides appearing on the cursor hovers over the rulers. It's something new that popped into the latest Sketch beta, and useful for checking alignment. I've attached gifs to demonstrate both from within Sketch.
  16. Agree with the request, and Matthias's suggestion as well.
  17. I've attached a gif showing Sketch with multiple fills, and shadows. In this case it's icon design. Currently in Designer I'd have to create multiple shapes.
  18. Basically in Sketch it's so efficient being able to manually select nodes, and adjust their radius individually (or as a group). I've attached a few gifs illustrating what I mean. node.gif Illustrates on a simple rectangle node2.gif Illustrates on a irregular shape
  19. The smart snapping / guides are really coming along! Any chance we can get distance functionality from other shapes as well? I added a gif demonstrating the functionality.
  20. Not sure I have the correct name for the UI area. Basically it's the area that updates based on selected objects. If I have 3 shapes selected it provides alignment tools, group, convert to curves, etc. It would be an ideal location to have distribution as well.
  21. Any updates would be awesome. I understand you guys are busy, so any information you can shoot my way when you get a chance. This functionality is something I use daily in Sketch, and would hamper me using Designer as a UI/UX tool. Ideally every effect should be capable of being applied multiple times, and each version individually tweaked. This was a limitation in DrawPlus, and was one reason my use of DrawPlus was limited to personal play.
  22. The smart way for Affinity to handle this is to utilize JavaScript and how Apple appears to be implementing it for scripting in Yosemite. And integrate with Automator. Python is a poor choice in my opinion.
  23. Any updates on this? And really all effects would benefit from multiple versions.
