I recently tried to 'stitch' together two halves of a photo, that had once been cut in two, using the 'Panorama' feature but the latter did not recognise the - to me - obvious matching of the images. The photo includes a sky/sea horizon and features on the shore, lower down, that should have been recognised as matching in both halves. The cut was not neat as the photo was quite old, ie. not freshly cut, but there was very little content missing requiring serious repairs. Can panoramas be formed only if two images 'overlap' each other? Obviously there was no overlap in this case. Chris

Affinity V1
Chris Andreae replied to Chris Andreae's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Thanks to you both. I will follow your advice and see what happens. -
I have downloaded Affinity V2 and it works nicely. Is there any reason why I should not delete the earlier version V1? Images created in the past with V1 pop up with the V1 software but do not if they are not accessed directly using the V2 screen (''Open [XXX]''). Chris

You certainly have to be careful on this support website. Searching for subjects such as 'discolouration' yields quite a different set of articles from different contributors than follows if 'discoloration' is entered in the box. Perhaps the software could be tweaked to accommodate both sides of the Atlantic - and elsewhere - together. Chris

Can someone help? Old photos, negatives or prints, frequently have part of their images discoloured, uniformly, by either being printed on poor quality paper or, more often, by being partly sandwiched between other paper/material for extended periods, the (differential) staining or fading only affecting the particular area covered. How does one change the shade etc of the offending area in order to match the part not affected by the discolouration or fading (from then on one can obviously restore the image in its complete form)? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Chris (example enclosed)

new laptop
Chris Andreae replied to Chris Andreae's topic in Customer Service, Accounts and Purchasing
Problem solved - I think. I found the account/downloads page. the record of my downloading it originally was right at the bottom. I think i have got it now but thank you for your trouble! -
I have just bought a new laptop and would like to download Affinity on it. I have and account and a product key/code. How do I go about it? The old laptop is redundant - in every sense (Affinity was VERY slow on it so hopefully the new one will be better). Many thanks Chris

I am sure this is an easy one. I wish to set out a lot of different photos on to an A4 sheet in grid form, that I can cut out easily when printed. The photos themselves are different sizes/proportions and can obviously be clipped and re-sized to fit the spaces but they need to be the same size when printed, rather like a sheet of passport photos. What is the easiest way of doing this? Any thoughts appreciated. Chris

Can anyone tell me how to stop a screen keyboard popping up when I attempt to type a name in a layer? It started a few weeks ago and I find it irritating. Settings in Windows 10 have stopped this happening elsewhere, ie. feature disabled, and I suspect the causes are to be found somewhere in the Affinity software? Thanks

Callum – thank you for replying. I made a mistake when I earlier described the features that displayed when the image was opened. Enclosed is a typical photo with the ‘tools’ circled. They are very easy to touch with the cursor and thence damage the image. Why Microsoft feel they are necessary to put them in I do not know but they are a nuisance. The old form of images I have used for years Microsoft have ‘updated’ more than once as you know. The only thing one can really do to them is increase them to their full size – if they have been reduced to fit the screen. Do you know how I can re-set Windows 10 to show all my (1000s!) of images in the old form? If you do I would be most grateful to learn. Perhaps one has to visit Microsoft’s website. Thanking you for your trouble. Chris (I also now have a keyboard that pops up uninvited which I have yet to find a way to remove. Settings>Keyboard... does not work! ) PS. I have just noticed that on the Documents page there is, under the 'Open' box an option to open files using different apps. One of these is the Windows Photo Viewer that I like to use and Windows 10 does not. How can I make this a default app to open/display (all) my photos, not just individual ones? Many thanks again

Not directly connected to Affinity but does anyone know how to change the format(?) of jpg images? Microsoft recently updated my Windows 10 but decided to change some of my settings, in particular those for jpg images. These now have a rump of variables one can tweek to improve one's picture - cut, level, variously enhance etc - in a line across the top that is too easy to accidentally click. I prefer using an old-fashioned 'format' for (jpg) pictures, which I suspect many of you use, which does not allow for any 'improvements' - that is left to Affinity... If anyone has any thoughts I would be very grateful. Chris Andreae

I am afraid I also found the video unintelligible for the same reason. Pity.
