In order for the object to be selected when the selection does not completely surround the object, you need to enable "Select object when intersects with the selection marquee", but note that this will select the object without fill as well. So that's not really what you're looking for.

I always have this turned on, right from when I started using Affinity a few years ago - you're right, this isn't the problem I'm experiencing.

  2. Thanks for listening! I've attached a screen recording.

Sorry for using the incorrect terminology - I realise the term "inside" was maybe a bit confusing. What I mean is that when I have two shapes, the outer square with NO fill, and the inner circle, and if I go to drag the inner circle shape, it also selects the outer square, even though I'm not intersecting the square's stroke with the cursor.

This behaviour only started happening in version 2 I believe, it wasn't an issue in the previous version.

I'm using Mac OS Sonoma, with a mouse, and Designer 2.3.1.

    Thank you!

  3. Hello, I'm having an issue with a specific font (Pangram's Neue Montreal Mono) showing a strange box around it in Affinity.

This only happens with this font on uppercase characters, and it only happens in Affinity Designer & Publisher. This behaviour is not exhibited in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.

There doesn't appear to be anything set as a stroke (which would show around the individual characters anyway).

Any ideas where I can look to get rid of it?

    Thanks!

Sounds like you have “Select object when intersects with selection marquee” set to ON in Settings / Tools.
(Since the marquee selection is within the boundary of the outer layer it also intersects it, and it is therefore selected.)

I did used to have this setting selected in the previous version, but it didn't used to select the "empty" shape unless I also intersected the stroke.

  5. I don't believe this used to happen in v1x of Designer, but now whenever I try to drag to select multiple objects inside of a shape that has no fill colour, the shape is also selected which is terribly annoying. However small my selection marquee is, it always selects the empty shape. Is there a setting I need to turn on or off?

In the below example the black rectangle has a stroke but no fill, if I drag to select the items inside the shape, then the shape itself is also selected. This didn't used to happen in the v1 versions of Designer.

    Thanks!

The Crop Tool in Affinity Photo operates on the complete canvas/document.

The Crop Tool in Affinity Designer works like you want; it is for cropping objects or layers.

You can do the same kind of cropping in Affinity Photo by using the Rectangle Tool. For example, given this document:

    image.png.fdca0acf9aa8a5cea1fb93dc08f27c65.png

I can draw a Rectangle with a Fill (any color):

    image.png.df62339408891ff16b5643323fbf9617.png

And then I can drag the Rectangle layer in the Layers panel down onto the thumbnail of the Image layer:

    image.png.46b72800c71d533fec84c32c830f3e2a.png

And the Image layer is now cropped.

    There are other alternatives, too.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but seriously this is so frustrating. Why should I have to jump through hoops to achieve something so basic as cropping an element (in my case a photo) on a canvas instead of just cropping the whole canvas?!

  7. Pulling my hair out with this one because I'm about to hand over a file to my colleague while I'm overseas for a month, and I've just discovered that what the Finder preview of this specific file is, and what actually opens is different. Affinity has replaced all the embedded images with something else 🥵

Any ideas on how I can get the images that are actually showing in the preview to show up in the actual file?!

I have attached images - as you can see the QuickLook preview in Finder shows the correct images on the artboards, but when I open the file, a standard image that Affinity has chosen from somewhere has replaced most of my embedded images!!!

  8. Hello, I'm just wondering if it's possible to have Designer (or Publisher) maintain my OpenType stylistic choices across all new text boxes created across the program, or do you have to set your preferred options on each document?

It looks like Designer maintains stylistic sets across all new text boxes created in each individual document, but is there any way to set a default for the font so it does the same thing in every new document?

    Thank you!

  9. This is the one feature that is missing for me that would allow me to ditch Adobe completely. Currently it's time consuming to have to design my form in Designer, save as PDF, then create the form in Acrobat.

Not to mention that if one of the team wants something on the form adjusted, I have to go through the whole process in Acrobat again.

Please add fillable elements in Publisher or Designer soon!
