Fun Art Sam reacted to loukash in How do I make edges "noisey"?
Yeah… my #1 missing Illustrator feature is the live Roughen vector filter.
Stroke pressure. The more nodes your shape has the better, because the pressure profile is "node-to-node".
Here a couple of examples I have posted in 2021:
Also works with a dash stroke:

Fun Art Sam reacted to NotMyFault in Roughening Effect on Straight Lines (for Sketchy Lines)
I made a unforgivable mistake and under-estimated the upper bound by at least 2 years. To my defense, i have included „more than“, but this should be replaced by „at least“ to better reflect the undeniable harsh reality.

Fun Art Sam reacted to walt.farrell in Keep text formatting on copy/paste from Word/Google Docs
Right-click on the Text Style in the Text Styles panel, and choose one of the "Apply" actions that preserves formatting:
You will need to experiment to see which of them works best for you.

Fun Art Sam got a reaction from Figmatt in Import/Export common palette formats
Please add GIMP .gpl file palette compatibility.
Most art programs are able to export this file type, so it's almost a universal file type for color palettes.
I have to manually recreate color palettes based on color palettes I created with Aesprite.

Fun Art Sam reacted to Old Bruce in Updating colours across several documents
Make a document palette with the global colours and export it somewhere you'll be sure to find it again. Call it Important Client Global Colours.afpalette
Make a document palette and save it in a Template, name the template file something like Important Client Colours and fonts.aftemplate .

Hi @evtonic3,
I think you can achieve this by switching to the Node Tool (A) and click on the icon 'Reverse curve', see screenshot.

Fun Art Sam got a reaction from walt.farrell in How to save selected brush stroke as a new brush?
@walt.farrell Walt, you're a hero! Thank you again!

Fun Art Sam reacted to walt.farrell in How to save selected brush stroke as a new brush?
You're welcome.
-
Fun Art Sam reacted to walt.farrell in How to save selected brush stroke as a new brush?
No, you can't select a brush stroke and save it as a brush.
However, if you have a brush that is close to what you want, you can double-click on it in the Brushes panel, which will open the brush editing window. You can then click "Duplicate" to make a copy, and start experimenting. When you're done, your modified copy of the brush will already be in the library, and all you may need to do is rename it.

Thanks for your help Walt! That's great advice!

Fun Art Sam reacted to walt.farrell in Default Brush Category Names & Brush Counts List (all apps)
If it helps, the Brushes panel options allow you to sort the categories by date added. If you do that, everything you've added will appear at the end, and all the default brush categories will be before them.

Fun Art Sam reacted to R C-R in Default Brush Category Names & Brush Counts List (all apps)
In January 2018 @Leigh posted a list of brush category names & the number of brushes in each of them, which I think must have been the factory defaults for Affinity Photo & Affinity Designer versions 1.6.x.
I would appreciate it if the same could be done for versions 1.7.x.
Also, I am not sure if there are any factory default brushes or categories included in Affinity Publisher (which of course would only be accessible via StudioLink & the Designer & Photo personas), but if there are any, I would like to see the same info for that as well.
This would be useful for several reasons, among them knowing what to expect if we either deleted the respective raster or vector brush propcol file or used the "nuclear" Preferences > Miscellaneous > Reset Brushes option to reset the brushes to factory settings.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide about this.

Fun Art Sam reacted to vubot in Blend tool
I'm looking to make the switch from Adobe to Affinity, but I'm not sure if I can fully commit without the blend tool (not layer blends like multiply, but object blending) as I do a lot of parametric work. Any chance this is in the pipe?
-
Fun Art Sam reacted to Athanasius Pernath in Blend tool in Designer
Blend tool (object blending) has been requested since 2015. It's a crucial part of doing parametric / creative work. Any chance to put in onto priority / pipe?
Thanks

Fun Art Sam reacted to am7 in How to set default colour bit depth in AP
Ok, so for anyone wondering, I found how to fix this:
1. click on assistant options (little tux icon in the top bar).
2. In raw output format, select the desired bit-depth.
3. Click on the "close" button to close the assistant options dialog box.
Nevertheless, it would be very helpful if this option was also in
Affinity photo > Preferences > Colour

Fun Art Sam reacted to NotMyFault in Why is scaling pixel art inaccurate with the pixel grid?
This is complex topic discussed before, so searching the forum might bring some answer.
Photo is better suited compared to Designer for such tasks It offers „Pixel Art Resize“ with additional resample methods you can try to switch view mode to „nearest neighbor“ (and use this during export) sett

Fun Art Sam got a reaction from StuartRc in Pixel Pattern Brush in Affinity Photo
Thanks Alfred for your suggestion! I will check out those brushes.
I think I may have found one possible method to create pixel brush patterns. The pattern layer tool and a square pixel brush look like a promising process. Hopefully, that will work.
Ishegeek created an awesome tutorial about creating a pattern, which I can then use as a texture in my brush.

Fun Art Sam reacted to sumneuron in 'Replace Colour' - How? (Affinity Photo)
Hi I just want to state that while the color replacement brush works fine when one doesn't want to mask and recolor certain parts, I would still very much like to have just an easy way to say take this rgb / hex value and make it this other one everywhere. Please make this a feature.

Fun Art Sam reacted to HuniSenpai in 'Replace Colour' - How? (Affinity Photo)
In the layers panel, make sure to re-select the background layer before doing "select sampled color" again, as I said in my previous post. Here's a walk through I just made for you
Let me know if this works for you :)!

Fun Art Sam reacted to HuniSenpai in 'Replace Colour' - How? (Affinity Photo)
A little late, but for anyone who's wondering:
select -> Select Sampled Color Hit okay Press crl + u to open up HSL panel. Adjust colors as you wish. This is the closest alternative to "replace color" filter in Photoshop that I've found. The color replacement brush tool is cool and all, but in no way equal to "replace color." I'm not sure that Affinity photo has a replace color filter, sadly. These steps work though; only takes a couple of seconds more.

Fun Art Sam reacted to MEB in 'Replace Colour' - How? (Affinity Photo)
Hi cwmbrancon,
There's no need to use the eyedropper. Set the foreground colour to the replacement colour you want to use (from your example it would be green), then paint over the colour you want to replace on canvas. Make sure you are working with a Pixel layer (not an Image layer). You can check the type of layer you are working with looking at the label between parenthesis after the layer's name in the Layers panel. Affinity should change it automatically to a Pixel layer for you, if not right-click on the Layer and select Rasterise.
Since you are trying to "colorise" a grey area (a neutral color), the Colour Replacement Brush may not be the best option here since there's no colour information to be replaced with.
You may want to try to add an Adjustment instead (like the Recolour, Selective Colour or HSL Adjustements). It's also closer to what Photoshop does. The process is similar no matter the Adjustement chosen:
go to menu Layer ▸ New Adjustment Layer and select the apropriate adjustement. select the new Adjustment layer in the Layers panel and press ⌘ (cmd) + I to invert the built-in mask (so you can paint over the areas you want to affect) set the Paint Brush Colour to white and paint over the areas you want to adjust (you are actually painting on the mask) use the Adjustment's window sliders to select / fine tune the colour of the painted areas. -
