  1. Hey, thanks for the link--that and the Affinity Resources page are both incredibly helpful! B)
  2. Would the Typography window be included as a panel, too?
  3. That issue I emailed you about with the pasting from .ai resulted in the "blink blink blink blink" text box popped up again. I tried selecting items in AD, deselecting items in AD, just continuously pasting hither and thither to see why, randomly, one time the pasting worked correctly. Other copy-and-pastes of a layer worked fine... but I think the problem might be with text as part of the layers/images I'm pasting. I noticed the same issue with another one of those themed layers only displaying the text from that layer and not the image portion. Opening the .ai file with those layers ends up displaying them correctly, however, so it must be related to the cut&paste process. Any ideas why the text might be causing problems, especially since you mentioned that you were able to copy and paste the layer I mentioned without getting the erroneous paste I've gotten most of the time (I can't figure out why it worked twice but not any of the other times...).
  4. When importing text boxes from an .ai file, the text comes in as Artistic (stretch the boundary box and the letters change size rather than rearranging themselves to fit as many words as possible within the box's width). Is there a way to convert that type of text into ...and I don't know the term... "regular" text?
  5. The closest I can find in the Help guide is the Pen Tool in either "Pen" Mode or "Smart" Mode, but I'm not very skilled (if anti-skilled were a thing, I'd use that) at using the Pen Tool. Is there a "pre-fabricated" tool like what Illustrator or iDraw has for those of us falling into the "Artistically Deficient" category? ;)
  6. The beta Affinity file worked, so if anyone else has the same problem I've been having, try that. It does import the .ai file the same as does iDraw, but there two shapes/items that didn't translate correctly here (one of which correctly translated in iDraw). Maybe it's a beta bug? May I send you screenshots of the Affinity result as well as the iDraw one to show you the difference? Maybe you'll be able to i.d. what caused the difference. I'm guessing you'd need the .ai file as well?
  7. When I open an .ai file, the PDF Options window opens. There's a checkbox labeled "Favour editable text over fidelity." What does that mean in terms of subsequently working with the document?
  8. I'll try downloading the 10-day one again and see if it happens to work properly; if not, I'll try the beta. And thanks for pointing out that Photo can open .ai files--I saw that it didn't have a time limit, but I didn't think it would handle illustrator docs. If all else fails, I'll post again, and you can let me know where I can send one of my files that I'd want to open in Affinity, and you can send those screenshots! :D
  9. Per the April 2 blog entry at https://affinity.serif.com/blog/, I tried to download and install the "new," 10-day trial, because I'd installed the previous one a few months ago and never had time to open it. So that earlier trial expired, but the blog said this 10-day one could be used. However, I'm still getting the "trial has expired" message. I deleted any seemingly pertinent files with "serif" and "infinity" in the name before starting up this new trial. Is there a file still on my Mac that is making it think that I've already used the new trial as well? Basically, I just need to see how it handles importing my .ai compared to iDraw, which I purchased back in 2014 as hasn't really lived up to what I need.
