JDW got a reaction from Dazmondo77 in Is there a vector erase tool in Affinity Designer?
Don't give up so easily.  I've been in this forum FOR YEARS and ignored most of that time, yet I stubbornly refuse to give up on Serif.  They need a firm kick on the pants, let me tell you.  I am one of their biggest fans and biggest critics.  The ball is in their court to obliterate all criticism from me and other faithful users.  All they need to do is just deliver.  They just need to show us they are not only listening but acting on what they hear.  We need to see that somebody in their company finally stood up and said to the engineers, "Enough is enough, you idiots!  From today, we're going to do something great!"  Seriously, they need a Steve Jobsian style tongue lashing from within.  I am not an insider so my words have no impact on their company.  I can only hope their owner will do the right thing before it's too late.  And if the right thing involves a different paid app, so long as it has most of what we've been asking for through the years, I'm fine with it.  What I am not fine with is endless waiting in vain.  That is just plain stupid.  It angers me, actually.  Yet, I am still opening to moving forward with them.  Yes, you really can be upset with Serif yet support them at the same time.  But I can't do it alone.  If folks start abandoning Affinity apps, then nothing better will come. So I would encourage you to "fight the good fight" and continue to press forward to speak your might loudly in these forums.  Hopefully one day soon, they'll start to listen.

You'll get nothing from Serif.  Sometimes the replies in this forum from members with mega-posts to their name can be helpful.  But in terms of the feature roadmap, there's little they can do.  If Serif would just respond, that's really all we ask.  If they came to us and said, we need to charge for an updated version to bring you all you've been requesting, most of us would jump in a heartbeat.  But letting the apps languish with minor updates is disheartening to say the least.  I came here several years ago in hopes the Affinity suit could unseat Adobe.  That isn't going to happen without major feature additions and meaningful updates.  And I say all this while still loving my Affinity apps.  I just wish Serif could make me love them more.

Mark, as you can see, this thread hasn't been updated since my last post in 2017.  Serif has zero interest in making improvements that pertain to what this thread is about.  As such, I shutter to think at just how long you may need to wait for a bug fix!  Please try to email Serif directly, and then report back here to let us know if they actually respond.  Thanks.

This is a well known workflow among Ilustrator professionals; the smoothing you make with this tool saves time and is efficient. And no matter why you need to smoothen something the feature is there and it works! Fx Imagine you traced something into vector (Oh my! Affinity can’t do that either!!) then simplify and smoothen tools are priceless. If you have a disability or just play with the curves these features are great!
Drawing with the stabilizer is clumsy, slow and artificial. It is like running in water.

    SrPx,

The stabilizer feature you wrote about already exists, so there's no reason to defend it. Furthermore, I was not saying that feature needs to be removed.

Obviously, there are some that you simply don't understand what this discussion is about. Thankfully MEB does understand, as per his previous post.

This discussion is about how to add a feature that is missing in Affinity Designer but which does exist in Adobe Illustrator for good reason. It's absolutely silly to say we only need certain tools when designing while implying we don't need comparable tools at all when repurposing art.

I noticed the absence of a Vertical Type feature today when I tested my *.ai files in Affinity Designer.  All the Japanese I created using Illustrator's Vertical Type Tool (tategaki) is changed to horizontal text when the file is opened in AD.

Please add a Vertical Type Tool akin to the one in Illustrator.  Such is not really needed so much for English, but for Japanese and Chinese, it's a must have feature.

The recent posts made me read through this poor multi-year old thread today from start to finish.  I must say I don't know whether to laugh or shed tears at Serif's continued cold shoulder toward us who purchased Affinity apps and had some meager expectation of "ongoing software development."  Perhaps if we asked for the world it would be unreasonable to expect Serif to accommodate, but we are talking about a Text Anti-aliasing popup menu.
Serif, hire a programmer for a week to implement this popup menu so we can end this thread and your users can rejoice worldwide.  Consider this post the much needed kick in your fanny to get that ball rolling.
    Thanks.

I'm glad we agree, and thank you for the screenshot. There's much power in using OS X's Terminal too to accomplish various tasks in OS X, but arguably, it is a less intuitive and sometimes a slower approach that using the GUI. In like manner, fiddling with curves in AP only to eliminate text anti-aliasing is ridiculous.

Serif, please add a text anti-aliasing pop up to AP at the earliest possible time. Thanks.

    @Ron P.
Rather than waste so much effort getting argumentative with me, I think we would all be best served if you pitch that idea directly to Serif.
But to answer your question, I would be able and willing to pay a fair value for Affinity software products if and only if they promise not to move to a subscription model. That’s the key for most people. Subscriptions make sense until you run out of money. That’s why I subscriptions are stupid in the long haul for consumers. And that my friend is precisely why Affinity products even have sales value and is why so many want to ditch Adobe.

JDW got a reaction from pdt256 in Booklet option
I guess we have few InDesign users here who know the merits of "Print Booklet."  I will admit that even Adobe was brain-dead to the need some years back (InDesign CS2 and prior) when Print Booklet was a mere 3rd party plugin called InBooklet.  But the InBooklet plugin for InDesign was so popular that Adobe's competitor Quark bought the company who made the plugin so as to kill it and give Adobe a firm kick in the fanny.  (Quark makes Xpress, a competitor to InDesign, and Xpress was king back in the day when it came to DTP.)  Knowing how much of a needed feature it was, Adobe added "Print Booklet" to the File menu starting in InDesign CS3 and has been a critically important part of InDesign ever since.  Here's a basic overview:
    https://helpwiki.evergreen.edu/wiki/index.php/Printing_Booklets_(Mac)_-_InDesign
Various "Booklet Types" are offered by InDesign's Print Booklet feature, but "2-up Saddle Stitch" is typically the best choice when making 2-sided booklets that will be stapled in the middle.
Say you create a design no B5 paper in the landscape position, creating 2 pages of content side-by-side for a total of 4 pages when considering both sides of the said B5 paper. The "2-up Saddle Stitch" setting in InDesign will properly format the pagers for direct printing to your printer, with only minor printer driver setup required, and no PDF creation required.  Print that way, then take the papers from your printer, staple them in the middle, fold, and you're done.  No cutting or trimming required in my experience.  It's really very easy and straightforward and consistent across all platforms and printer drivers.
Again, you don't need any major fiddling in your printer's dialog box when using Print Booklet.  You just need to make sure you have duplex printing and typically you will choose "Short-edge binding."  Once that's setup, you then check the Preview in the Print Booklet dialog and ensure your cover page and back page are correct, and then it's typically safe to print.  There are lots of guides and YouTube videos on InDesign's "Print Booklet" feature.  Ten minutes or so of Googling, reading and watching will make the feature abundantly clear and hopefully clarify what the same sort of feature is greatly needed for Affinity Publisher to be taken seriously.
Why does this matter?  Because Serif needs to woo Adobe users away from Adobe.  The easier you make the transition and the more complete the feature set, the more likely it is that Adobe users currently tied to the month subscription ball-and-chain will "see the light" and make the switch.  But if the transition looks too difficult or if there are major features lacking, most Adobe users would probably justify the ball-and-chain price and stick with what works for them.  So I strongly suggest that Serif add a Print Booklet feature to Affinity Publisher, post haste.

It took me a while to figure out how to show details about my linked files since there is no Links palette in Publisher like there is in Adobe apps.  It seems that Linked file access in Affinity Publisher is restricted to Document > Resource Manager.  Fine and well, but how do I perform a Reveal in Finder command like we can easily do in Adobe apps?  (In Adobe apps you can right-click on the graphic to get the Reveal in Finder command, or do the same through the Links palette.)
    Thanks.

Tools to enable the setting of “black”, “white” and “mid-grey” points for an image are hugely important for so many reasons.
In PS it is possible to preset the colour values for each of these points and then a single targeted click on the image being corrected for each point will remap all the colour values.
Some people use the tool in PS to simply set 100% white and black values, and to remove a colour cast from an image by choosing a mid-grey for the gamma. But it is very much more powerful than that and a fantastically useful tool in the PS tool set.
Has AF any tool to match PS in this department yet? If so, please can someone tell me where it is? I have to keep my copy of PS 7 on an older Mac to allow me to do this one thing for my images.
I appreciate very much what Serif have created with their suite of apps for designers. However, there are certain tools still missing from AF and AD that make a huge difference to my workflow. An easy way to remap colours in an image through an “eye-dropper” type of tool would be tremendously helpful.
PS had this ability since at least version 2, when I first used it, and so I find it hard to understand why something similar hasn’t yet been implemented in AF, especially considering the other fancy things it can do. It’s mid-2020 now. I am hoping that this will be the year of the white-point, black-point & gamma setting tool!

I read your reply but my eyes glazed over when I read your "more patience needed" quip in light of the 3 years it's been since I opened this thread.  Sorry, but three years is long enough (even for Serif staff to discover this thread).   But more than that, Affinity Photo really is "PS on the cheap" insofar as it contains many similar features and is cheaper.  That truth really isn't debatable.  It's factual reality.  There are more similarities with PS than not.  It's just that some of us prefer AP to become even more similar.  The eye dropper is a part of that.  So rather than just defend the status quo (which has remained unchanged these last 3 years), please join us and jump on the bandwagon of feature requests that would help others even when you yourself are not helped by them.
In that case, please use the string-pulling power of your 3,095 reputation to get this thread MOVED to the appropriate place in the Feature Requests forum, rather than tell me to make a new post 3 years later, which as you full well know would eliminate all the important posts in this thread.  Moving the thread is better than starting a new one from scratch.  Moving threads has been possible in other forums for years, so I must assume it's possible in this forum too.  Thank you in advance for your kind assistance in doing that.

I'm happy to hear it, because that is precisely what I have been trying to do, working here in Japan for a Japanese company.  But despite my speaking in native English, my words in this forum are still largely ignored.  No action by Serif on this or most of my other feature requests.  It's very disappointing.  It wouldn't be if I had only yesterday or last week made the request, but many things I have mentioned were years ago.  5 YEARS since the start of this thread!  There's no excuse for not having implemented improvements to crop marks in that time.  None whatsoever.
