JDW got a reaction from Horseflesh in How do I use the white balance picker?
I've been debating folks like yourself on that very issue for the last 7 years.  I shall continue to advocate for Adobe users, who comprise, no doubt, the lion's share of switchovers to the Affinity Suite.  The more you can make something like an industry standard, the better, not simply to make the transition easier, but because that industry standard has some pretty darned good features that anyone would like to see -- even folks who have zero experience with the Adobe suite.
But take don't the debate personally.  I'm not trying to pick on you.  I'm picking on a piece of software for not being better.
Furthermore, I'm obviously on the losing end of the stick anyway, as per the fact these threads have existed so many years and yet continue to be ignored by Serif.  But just as I pounded away at Apple's butterfly keyboard until it died and was replaced, so shall I pound here on issues that are important to the masses.  If the status quo was paradise, I'd be silent.  But it isn't.  So I speak.
    Best wishes!

I didn't expect this post from 7 years ago would still be relevant! Haven't they changed the white balance tool since 2015?

Thank you for pointing out the "White Balance Tool" within the "Develop Persona."  However, that White Balance tool is NOT the same as Photoshop's White Point dropper tool (inside the Curves dialog).  That Photoshop tool, when clicked on light areas of a photo, will make light gray areas brighten to become pure white.  A purely White BALANCE tool, in contrast, doesn't make changes to the light gray areas of the photo, but instead changes the color of light.  There is a difference.

If you have PS, just open a pic, then open Curves, then click on the rightmost dropper tool with the tooltip "Sample in image to set white point."  Click in a light gray area of your pic and watch as it changes to pure white and the overall brightness of the image increases too.  Then hold down the OPTION key to see areas that still are not pure white.

There are big differences between the two tools.  AP needs the functionality that the PS tool has.

Another +1 for this with the addition that the layers panels should show whether the image is linked or not, as this is something I would like to be able to see in conjunction with this feature.

It took me a while to figure out how to show details about my linked files since there is no Links palette in Publisher like there is in Adobe apps.  It seems that Linked file access in Affinity Publisher is restricted to Document > Resource Manager.  Fine and well, but how do I perform a Reveal in Finder command like we can easily do in Adobe apps?  (In Adobe apps you can right-click on the graphic to get the Reveal in Finder command, or do the same through the Links palette.)
    Thanks.

I love affinity photo but I really wish that they actually implement the feature of the eye dropper so we can click on the grey cards in photos. Why are they not listening to us. Affinity photo is just for photography so colours are important to me and others. Come on Affinity we need this.
I wrote this in an email to affinity photo
Dear Staff,    I am writing to you as I and others have asked since 2018 to implement the ability to be able to click on a grey card in a photo to set the white balance and other settings that normally get set like photoshop. Please I love affinity photo but this is important to me as I do not want just to guess.    I just can't believe that its years since people have been asking and we are just being ignored. Myself I use affinity photo to edit my photos for print and getting the correct colours is important to me and I am sure just as important to everyone else.    Thanks   Brenden 16/03/2022

I actually want to join you reveling in all that fun, but I must first wait for the "easy to delete a node" feature.  The lack of important features in Affinity Designer strongly attenuates my otherwise fun-filled personality!   :(

Some photographers prefer to have neutral grey card or guaranteed grey object in their shoot so they can instantly set colour balance by eyedropper. I have used this time to time.
Eyes tend to adapt to any lighting or colour cast so eye calibration can drift a lot...

The holding down Alt key to preview white and black points is neat, but there's zero hints about that in the UI itself, which results in this:
There were even more threads when I searched, so I hope Affinity can make their UI about this more intuitive in the future...

Sorry to have to disagree with your 21,368 posts worth of experience, but Serif does NOT listen.  Virtually none of the issues presented in my posts through the years have been addressed by Serif, and numerous other people share the same interest.  "Obligation" means nothing.  Yoda said it best...  "Do or do not.  There is no try."  Whether Serif is under an obligation or not is irrelevant.  They are not adequately engaging their own customer base, even after YEARS have passed.
Ditto what I said previously.  Many other software companies are active in their forums because they realize that's where their best feedback comes from.  It therefore comes as no surprise that my most beloved software developers are the ones who do show clear signs that they listen, and help us, the little people, play proactive roles in moving the software forward.
Excuses that praise the status quo do nothing to move the apps forward.  All that does is just preach to the choir.  I refuse to do that.  If Steve Jobs had that yes-man personality, Apple itself wouldn't exist today.

Thank you, @lastmartian for your post today.  It reminded me that nothing has changed and kick-started my zeal to keep on Serif until they start to pay attention, for the good of all Affinity app users.

The time has come to update the annual PS subscription, and I suddenly remembered that I did buy the Designer some years ago!
I couldn't recall why I never used it much, though 🤔
I installed the updated Designer, and after 5 minutes of using it, I stumbled upon the text antialiasing thing...
I immediately recalled that it was exactly the reason I never used it much.
I'm not a fan of PS and I use a very limited subset of its features.
I also hate paying for both the AI and PS, but It seems that I will continue to do so.
    Sad 😔

BTW now the white balance tool in Affinity (both develop and photo persona) is broken, now it only moves the temperature value and not the tint. They should move together to properly fix the white in any picture.

Looking at this old video it worked fine (if you look at the tint and temperature sliders on the right while he clicks with the white balance tool in the develop persona at 1:27 they both moves at the same time as it should be), it means they broke it in one of the last updates... I already reported the bug, let's hope they'll fix it fast because it's a pretty serious bug for people working with photos...

Just getting on-board with AD and am surprised to see that there are no vector eraser tools. Switching into pixel-mode doesn't work for me as I'm exporting SVG to animate in another app. I can delete individual points but man, that's a real bummer to my workflow. Hope this gets implemented some day?

This is the unfortunate tragedy in not having a dedicated Scissors tool like Illustrator.  It's not just the conflict with Illustrator muscle memory. Productivity drops tremendously.  You see, in Illustrator, I can sketch a circle, then type C to select Scissors, then click on two points on the circle to cut it.  No "Convert to Curves" required.  It's fast and just works.  That is what we all need in Affinity Designer, if we are truly honest.  Bring on the Scissors tool!

In File > New Document > Presets you have a choice of document units (look on the right, in the section titled "Layout").
You can also change the document units at any time in an existing document using File > Document Setup or if the ruler is showing by right-clicking on the units display at the ruler origin & using the popup menu there.
