AffinityAppMan reacted to MEB in Importing PSD's into Affinity
Hi davidfelts,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Affinity Designer/Photo does support PSD layers (text layers, vector layer, adjustments etc). However not all features are supported (PSD is a proprietary/poorly documented format). Currently we don't support PSD Smart Objects for example - they are imported as rasterised layers (flattened). Without seeing your file its difficult to tell you why some layers are being imported as pixel layers (rasterised), but if those are files were bought in a digital store it may eventually be because they contain PSD Smart Objects.

AffinityAppMan reacted to MEB in Smart Objects?
Hi mintcar,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
You can achieve a similar result with embedded documents in Affinity apps. Just drag an Affinity Designer/Photo file over an open document to embed it. You can transform, apply adjustment's, effects etc to the embedded document while keeping its contents intact. To edit the embedded document, double-click it on canvas or select it in the Layers panel and click Edit Document in the context toolbar (with the Move Tool selected) to open it in a new document tab. Edit it to your hearts content then close the embedded document tab. All changes will be reflected in the original document.

AffinityAppMan got a reaction from SrPx in Introduce Yourself
Hello Fellow Affinity users! :)
I am a long time graphics artist, cartoonist, and caricaturist. ( 25 years )
I have been using Serif products for many years now. I work on Apple Mac computers and iPad pro.
I have to say the the AFFINITY line of products are a trend setter and I believe it will revolutionize the photo and graphics world. Especially with Adobe forcing people into monthly payments.
I currently use Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo for MAC and iPad Pro.
I am happy to say that I have been Adobe FREE for 2 years now and I am not even looking back.
I am very honored to be part of this wonderful community. Everyone in the forums are very helpful, talented, and fun!
Best Regards,
Bill

AffinityAppMan reacted to Andy Somerfield in Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.6 - Beta 1)
Status: Beta Release
Purpose: New features, fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: Here
This is the first beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.
To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.
Fixes/Improvements:
First and foremost, the 1.6 version is mainly about: Light UI! (go to Preferences->User Interface) Improved view pan/zoom performance and new pixel-differencing pixel shader Improved performance with large documents New font chooser dropdown with recents, used fonts and favourites New Glyph browser Stroke stabiliser for all pencil and brush tools Align to key items (first/last selected) Text frame vertical alignment options Fit frame to text (double-click on bottom centre handle). Transform panel uses the rotation centre Scale/shear can now be performed about rotation centre Double-click now resets shape handles and rotate/shear handles Many PDF export improvements including vector export of multi-stop gradients Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements -

AffinityAppMan reacted to jeffkovitz in Downloadable Affinity Photo Help 1.5 Epub for IBooks (Updated Dec 7, 2016)
Have changed this to an Epub for 1.5 (Updated Dec 7, 2016 with Gold Master Help File)
Here is a link to the Affinity Photo Help File in Epub Format for Version 1.5 (December 7, 2016) - works great in Ibooks.
Very convenient to have in a portable format - or to use side by side with Affinity Photo on your computer.
Link: https://app.box.com/s/bjv07ey7ryvqbg16zh4yjazcd65uw85c
Alternate Link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjuKWjfPlktwgfoEGfpoz65qzzsz_A
Just download it to your ipad and pick "open in IBooks" or download it to your computer and email it to yourself and then pick "open in iBooks" from your iPad.
Its a spectacular resource on an iPad Pro. If you have an android tablet, go to Google Play and search for "epub reader"

AffinityAppMan reacted to Chris Van Cleve in Dream Styles
So, I fell in love with Affinity after about an hour of playing with it. I bought it and started bringing my favorite assets over from Photoshop and Illustrator, including some styles I have been using for years on my web projects. I thought perhaps others could use them too, so here they are with a bonus set of sticker styles.
Enjoy if they're of interest to you.
UPDATE: New version 2.0! This time the gradients and strokes are tool editable. No more trips to the Effects Panel. This gives better and easier control of the styles.
BONUS: By request, 4 atmosphere styles. Included is the AD file with all styles applied for you to play with. Will likely only open in the latest beta. Sorry.
BONUS: Dream Metals styles! Aluminum, Gold, and Copper.

Hey, Akira here.
May I present you my first brush set (pack?) for Affinity Photo.
I've spent time to make them feel great for Apple Pencil, both directly on iPad Pro and via Astropad for desktop.
Each brush named accordingly to it's behaviour, and they are fun to use!
Will update the set as time goes on, so we are not stopping here.
Hope you enjoy them!

AffinityAppMan reacted to MattP in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.5.2 - Beta 4)
Status: Beta
Purpose: Stability & Critical fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: 1.5.2 Beta 4 Here
This beta is intended to fix any critical issues found in the current App Store version and should be considered to be more stable than the App Store product.
To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.
Fixes:
Enabled 32bit documents and associated studio UI (including OCIO) Resizing documents should scale guides and slices as appropriate so they appear to be in the correct location Fix for Mountain Lion in the new Export Persona (panels disappear completely and the app becomes unstable) EPS export improvements with thin lines and mitre joins Fixes for Text Styles (editing 'No Style' and clicking in certain areas of the style preview) OpenType tweaks Print speed improvements Fix for being able to measure between siblings inside groups and containers, also being able to measure immediate children of a container and between selected object and its ancestors. When space is tight, the measurements now appear out-of-line rather than scaling too small to be usable. Improved error reporting when opening PSD files Fix for PDF import of Japanese fonts Shortcut for soft-return is now shift+return Fix for issues seen when bleeds are unequal on different sides Fix for issues seen when trying to output selected areas to PDF and accidentally generating multi-page PDFs Automatic slice rectangle calculations should not include the layer effect inflation from the parents Improved output-path validation for Export Persona Added 32bit PSD export Added EXR/HDR export Initial support for new Touch Bar on MacBook Pro Added Polygonal and Magnetic lasso selection modes Fix for Fonts list jiggling around at times when moving up/down in the list Fix for copying groups within Symbols causing 'the beginning of the end' Had a baby daughter so wasn't around much Miscellaneous other fixes and improvements -
AffinityAppMan reacted to VIPStephan in Resons to ditch Illustrator completely... and why I can't
Not every feature can be implemented at the same time. You can be certain that this is not an omission “by design” but just due to time constraints and a limited amount of staff to implement features; i. e. auto trace will come eventually, don’t give up on AD yet.

I would guess that it would be similar to how current betas for AP and AD are handled but we will see.

AffinityAppMan reacted to Callum in Weird corner behaviour on .PDF .EPS export
Hi Marco,
This issue is happening because the top right node on both L shapes is actually 2 nodes on top of each other if you switch to the node tool [A] and then click the top right node and press the delete key it will delete the node which should solve this issue :) Please note you will need to do this for both letters!
Hope this helps

AffinityAppMan reacted to MEB in Exporting to EPS — how to do that??
Hi bodich,
You may want to uncheck View ▸ View Mode ▸ Clip to Canvas so you can see the difference, before applying those steps. Basically we are adding a rectangle to be used as a clipping mask so disabling Affinity Designer Clip to Canvas will let you see the effect of the rectangle being used as a clipping mask, otherwise seems you haven't done anything.
1. draw a rectangle (square in this case) with the same size as the canvas with both Fill and Stroke set to None.
2. then select and drag the five first groups - click the first on top in the Layers panel then press ⇧ (shift) and click on the fifth - over the rectangle layer you just created (not over its thumbnail but over the area on the right to clip them)
3. export to EPS as usual
The rectangle you have created will be converted to a clipping path when opened in Illustrator.

AffinityAppMan reacted to Goner__ in Development Status - Where is Affinity 1.5 Beta?
And the Lord saith: Thou shall atone for thine sins by releasing another beta soon. And 1.5 beta. And, like, ehm..., Publisher... ;) (seriously, I have been waiting for that one for ages and had to buy both Designer and Photo just to endure the pain... Addictions can be funny - turns out I am addicted to something I have never seen or imbibed yet. )
