hungrydog reacted to Lorox in Please add ability to hide bounding box (and other signs of selection) with selected objects
I just experienced what a nuisance it is when you cannot hide the bounding box of an object when you're doing detail work of some kind or other on an objects.
Oftentimes you have an object selected and want to add a delicate stroke or a sophisticated gradient fill and you notice that you just cannot really judge what you're doing unless you deselect the object to get a proper view without the (quite obtrusive) bounding box getting into the view – really spoiling the preview. I'd say this is also true with other indicators (marquee, marching ants in pixel persona etc.) of an object being currently selected.
Just hiding the bounding box while dragging (as is already possible) is not enough, because the object is not being moved while doing things like mentioned above.
I'd highly appreciate some kind of toggle keyboard command – like "command (or control on Windows) H" like in Photoshop which completely deactivates (and switches on) any current selection indicators.

How do I recall a saved preset that I added? I made a Levels preset but don't see the option to apply it on another layer.

Naturally "select open files" should be one available option for a source for batch operation. Please.

I am desperately in need of this feature too. It will greatly speed up our workflows.  Exporting each photo seperately takes a while.

    Hello all,

I use FVR to browse my images, it is fast, reliable and I like it.

With that in mind when I have opened a number of images in AF how do I go about using Batch Processes on them? The ADD button opens the 'Finder' but does not show the files already open in AF.

I realise I can choose from the finder by using the file names shown in AF but this seems counterintuitive and convoluted when my chosen images are already open IN AF.

I regularly want to export jpg (small and basic) for my wife's use on the internet and my own postings and basic batch/macros are all that is needed.

This oddity is my only question on this process.

    Regards.   Sharkey

I'm definitely interested in the default tool either being the move tool or me being able to choose the default tool. I have a lot of documents that have embedded documents and every time I open an embedded document I then have to remember to change from the move tool, i.e. the tool I was using 2 seconds before I entered the embedded document.

Thanks Ron. Once I get the Flood Select actually working, I've figured out how to use it. I just don't get that first extra step when I open a non-Affinity image. This last time that it happened, I knew there was something I did to get it working in the past and I could not figure it out for awhile. I guess I just don't get it - why bring an image into Photo if not to edit it, so why not "raster" it automatically or maybe even just ask me. I newbie might just give up and think it's broken. And I still think raster is the wrong word.

I'm a cartoonist looking for an alternative to Photoshop and was bummed to find out (after purchase) that Affinity Photo does not have a bitmap mode, which is essential to my practice. As stated above, the printing process for comics uses black and white bitmap 1200dpi TIF files for the lineart, which is overprinted above the CMY plates. Until this feature is incorporated I'll have to search elsewhere for a workaround (Clip Studio Paint, etc.)

I encountered this limitation too. I prepare comics work for print, and for that 1bit black and white high resolution 800ppi-1200ppi images must be created.
While Photoshop has the option to work in 1bit image mode, most of the functionality is deactivated: layers do not work for example. And to composite the line art with the colour plate, InDesign is required to produce a PDF.
After some trial and error I discovered that, as far as I could find, only one non-Adobe workflow option exists. This assumes the line art is inked in B&W at a minimum of 800ppi or scanned at that minimum resolution. I tried a combination of Gimp, Scribus, but while Scribus supports export to PDFx/4 with 1bit transparent images, I couldn't create a good transparent 1200ppi 1bit image in Gimp.
So I do my prepwork in PhotoLine now, which supports 1bit image layers, and these can be combined in the same layer stack with the 300ppi colour work. First I open the 300ppi colour work, then import the 1bit 1200ppi line art, activate transparency for this layer, and remove the white background. Then I add the vector text balloons and other vector elements, and export a PDFx/3 document. PhotoLine miraculously seems to understand that I want a layered 300ppi PDF with a 1bit B&W1200ppi layer printed on top, which was unexpected when I first tried it a year ago. The result is a nice layered PDF which prints the page's colours at 300ppi, the line art superimposed at a crisp 1200ppi, and the vectors at the image setters max res.
If you need to prepare 1bit images, just get PhotoLine for this. Work in Affinity Photo, and convert to 1bit with PhotoLine, and output. I use PhotoLine as a InDesign replacement for this type of work. It's an inexpensive solution to a very particular workflow requirement.
One caveat with both Affinity Photo and PhotoLine: neither one supports an 8bit (or less) indexed image mode. For this I use Pro Motion NG - which is kinda the industry standard for indexed pixel art anyway. If I need to work on indexed images, I open the art or photo in PM, and it converts it nicely to an indexed image. And PM being a specialized indexed image editor, I get the best indexed image tools in the business. Good for textile print prep too, to get remove those anti-aliased edges :-)
So three apps: Affinity Photo, PhotoLine, and Pro Motion NG combine to achieve an even more powerful workflow with indexed and 1bit images compared to Adobe. Not bad.

Threshold will turn the image black and white, but it needs a dot pattern, as in a halftone dot or dither.  As it is already pixel based, why would it need rasterizing?

Will you be introducing a feature to convert photo images to bitmap?  I refer to the ability to change an image to purely Black & White (not greyscale), with options for half tones and dithering to display grey areas.  This is something I have used a lot in photoshop, to prepare images for printing .To transfer to screens or to etch.

    Hi Sharkey,

Currently you can only select images to batch process when using File > New Batch Job. More features are planned for batch processing as development continues so hopefully being able to batch process already opened files will be possible.

    Hi AlanWood,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
This feature (cropping and scale/resample simultaneously) was originally present in Affinity Photo Beta 1.7, but due to some issues/conflicts was removed/postponed for a future version/update, so hopefully it will be available later.

Thank you. It seems to be an issue with the "CTRL+Click" shortcut, and the CTRL being ignored. I have logged this with our developers. In the meantime, you can turn on Right click in your mouse settings and that will work fine.

hungrydog reacted to BMB in Macros Suggestions
I'm really loving Affinity Photo so far and it's well on its way to replacing photoshop entirely on my toolset, but there's a couple of limitations on the macros system that are stopping me. I have a ton of automated actions in photoshop that allow me to open up several files, tell one action to go, and a bunch of stuff happens across all those documents without me needing to do anything else. This saves me a good 15 or so minutes of manual work, and I have to do this often enough that I can't really afford to not have that. Here's some suggestions on what I think would make the macros system really powerful:
    - copy should be available as a macro action. It's really weird that it isn't, and for me that's really weird because if I want to make macros that allow me to transfer content from document to document, I have to cut off the macro at a certain point, tab over, and manually paste before running a different macro entirely. However,
    - Even the cut function should put that information on a reusable clipboard. Going off the example above, it's bizarre that when I tab into a different document I have to manually paste the newly copied information because if the macro I made earlier has a paste function in it, it'll just paste whatever happened to be in the clip board at the time of me making the macro and not the new content I just copied.
    - Should go without saying but closing and tabbing between documents should also be available functions so I can let one macro do all the work across files rather than needing to set up a dozen individual macros and then manually tab and run macros for each individual file. Not exactly the most appealing option when I'm trying to make changes to 20+ files at the time.
    - "Edit Macros" in the library panel is super limited at this point. You can't reorder the functions, so most of the time just making the same macro from scratch is the easiest and fastest way to actually get the result I want. The little panel where you can manually edit certain functions like transform are super neat, but they mean nothing if you can't, for instance, copy those functions into a different Macro if you need them replicated elsewhere.
I know development takes a long time and these features won't show up for a while, if ever, but I hope the macros feature gets patched up somehow at some point since atm it's the only thing keeping me from making a full transition. Other than that, though, I love the program!

    Hi Dev Team,
AP has some nice features/options which we use when editing image, but those are not available when creating macros. i.e. grouping two layers or in Apply Image you can select image/layer, blend mode, opacity, equations when editing, but while recording[and running again] macro only opacity change is available etc... When this will be extended, as currently only simple automation is possible?
    Best regards,
    Greg
