@RedBeard I can replicate it and fix it, not sure point of comparing to another design package that does not use same brushes though.
Turning off the rotation dynamics removes core characteristics of the brush (Sort of like fixing a flat tire by just removing the wheel). A brush that has its shape tied to pencil angle is critical to hand lettering for example.
I showed another app with a brush who’s shape rotation is linked to pencil angle because in the past I was told this was a flaw in how Apple Pencil data is processed by the iPad. That doesn’t seem to be the case.

Have you tried this Preference?
I have but Affinity appears to treat touch and hold like a gesture.

When making an arched brush stroke the brush flips when approaching the horizontal orientation. This happens in all brushes I have tested where their rotation is linked to Apple Pencil angle. I show the same strokes performed in Procreate with a similar brush to demonstrate that this is not a flaw in the iPads pencil processing.
I used the “Fluid Chisel Tip” brush with its default settings.
Edit: this was on an iPad Air 4 running iOS 16This bug was also present in Photo v1

😟 They couldn’t have just added a save all to icloud function? I don’t believe this would have had to deal with sandboxing limitations of moving directly from one app to another. Oh well time to start saving manually… ⏳

100% agree! or at least include it in the history panel. I'm so tired of trying to reverse engineer my brush settings every time I open a project.

When drawing with Apple Pencil in designer I rest my hand on the screen like you naturally would when drawing on paper. But so often it recognizes my hand as a touch and hold input to use the color picker. Then all of a sudden I'm drawing with white instead of black. If we had the option to turn off the touch shortcut for the color picker it would incredible. Otherwise you have to hover your palm over the screen and you lose a lot of fine detail control.

Came here to post the margin issue. Artboards are definitely not only used for UX/UI. I am trying to make a two sided flyer in one document and need to make sure I stay within a safe area.

Far too often am I trying to draw on a pixel layer with my hand resting on the screen does the color picker pop up and select my background color. Therefore most of the time I have to hover my hand above the screen which reduces drawing control and is quite uncomfortable. If there was an option to disable the color picker (or any other individual gesture control) it would be a huge improvement to the overall drawing experience.

A Glyph picker is desperately needed for professionals using the iPad app

When I am drawing with my Apple Pencil in pixel persona the color picker keeps getting triggered from resting my hand on the iPad and turning my strokes white since most of the canvas is already white. How do I prevent this? I already have touch for gestures only turned on. My only work around for now is to hover the palm of my hand over the iPad. This is not a viable solution as the quality of my drawings becomes garbage without any steadying of my hand.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for letting me know this is being worked on.

When making curved strokes using any brush with it’s rotation dynamic tied to pen angle I am experiencing a glitch with the stroke as the pen passes from being angled up to being angled down. It does not happen when drawing in the opposite direction (bottom to top). In the video I demonstrate the problem with the built in Calligraphic Marker brush and the Fluid Chisel Tip brush but the problem also occurs with custom solid brushes.
While I discovered this bug on my iPad in Designer I also experienced it in Photo as well as the Mac version of both using a Wacom tablet.

I came here to say the same thing! Even if it just worked across iPad apps that would be great. Having to install the same brushes and fonts each time in Designer and Photo make it a pain in the neck to work on the same project using the two apps for their specialized tasks.

If you were saving to the apps folder in iCloud they will still be there. If you saved them to the apps folder on your iPad, (ouch) you've lost them. Deleting the app removes the folder on iPad but not on iCloud. Unless you made a recent backup of your iPad?
Personally I use Documents by Readdle and set up a File/folder structure then save my files to that location. This way I can have sub folders and name them to suit.
Oof! That’s what I was afraid of. Thanks for the Documents app suggestion, I’ll give it a try.
As a suggestion to the developers, if we could specify a linked Google Drive as the default save location too that would be very useful.

I was having some issues with Affinity Designer running on my iPad Air 4 so I thought a fresh install might fix things. I made sure to save all my documents to the Affinity folder in files. Double checking that everything I wanted saved was in the folder, I deleted the app.
But the folder is gone too now, along with everything in it! I checked the "Recently Deleted" folder and don't see any of my lost documents.
Did I just lose all my documents, or is there a way to get them back?

Problem still exists in 1.7.2

Hi RedBeard,
Can you go to Preferences > Performance and see if 'Enable Metal compute acceleration' is enabled please. If not, tick this and your brush drawing speeds should be much improved!Unfortunately 'Enable Metal compute acceleration' was already turned on.

Sure. Here you go.

I noticed a considerable lag with a custom round brush that utilizes Shape Jitter.
Here is a video showing the difference with Shape Jitter turned on and off. It doesn't make a difference what is set to control the jitter (tilt, pressure, angle)
The document is letter size (2550x3300) in pixel persona
System Specs
OS: Mojave 10.14.5
Model: MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2015
Processor: Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz

Unless there is a way to keep the brush rotation tied to the pencil angle without causing this defect in the stroke this is still a bug. Many other programs allow you to do this without such a stroke defect.
