Hilltop reacted to Roger C in This category is too broad
So the clunky and sub-optimal Search facility on this forum is a feature the website provider itself struggles with!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you @Hilltop and @Alfred !
I hadn't thought to search outside the forum to find things inside this forum, but it actually works; and so much better than what we have here.
Yes, it's an extra step, but it ultimately saves the time and frustration of repeatedly trying to second guess what the forum's search engine might respond to each time...

Have you tried Google search: text wrap site:https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/3-affinity-support/
Place the entire phrase in your browser's address bar. The red text is whatever you search for (I used 'text wrap' as an example).

Sure, but I just did a copy & paste and added the search item. But I did miss Walt's post.

It will take me a while (if ever) before I know the suite as well as you do!

Thanks. That works. Pity having to jump through hoops just to find out whether one's question has already been answered before posting a new topic.

You should not recommend our new products .......unless
1) you think it is useful to others
and
2) you want to recommend any Serif product.
To try to address #2
When you buy any software licence it does not mean that the software will continue to be developed or supported forever. However so far Serif have kept supporting the legacy range on the CommunityPlus forums for almost 3 years now since we launched PagePlus X9, and 2 1/2 years since we announced the end of the Plus range and kept patching PagePlus for another year after that. A while ago the Head of Software Development made a commitment to patch PagePlus if a Microsoft Windows 10 update broke it. So far it has kept working fine, and as it still works on Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 then I would hope it will continue to do so for some time longer.
So I would hope that for existing .PPP documents you could continue to use PagePlus X9. Possessing hundreds of .PPP files is not the same as needing to open and edit hundreds of .PPP files (PagePlus can still do that). It is only if you want/need to use a feature that Affinity Publisher has, that PagePlus X9 does not have, that you would need to convert/import into Affinity Publisher.
Serif would love there to be a simple process where PagePlus files would load into Publisher and we would program it in a heartbeat if there were, but it is realistically a very difficult task as Ben has said. PagePlus is excellent software, but we knew we could do better, but that meant starting again not adding more and more to what we had. We have been honest from the start of development that we do not think PPP import is likely to happen. Some people are only finding out now, but I don't think we have tried to hide this fact when asked.
If you have (and like) PagePlus then please keep using it when needed as well as using Affinity applications. We like it and have made the Affinity Workbooks using it, [and ironically may well make an Affinity Publisher one in it too, because we have the template all set up already].
The expressions of upset in this thread are ones I have seen many times in my interactions on CommunityPlus and I really do appreciate the feelings of disappointment. Please try the Affinity Publisher beta and see if the features it has are what you are looking for for your new work going forward. If not then keep using PagePlus and come back and try a trial later in it's development. But please don't write us off as we do care about you and your custom.

How would other publishing programs make this situation any different?
You may decide on another package, but you would be overlooking the core reasons we began again in engineering the Affinity suite. We have certain features that are not found elsewhere - such as our true single file format, full-scale support on iPad and being cross platform. We also aimed to redefine some tools since we were not bound by legacy requirements. So, we've tried to put innovation first where we could. Something that would have been impossible if all we had done was update an old application. If we succeed with Publisher as we have with Designer and Photo, then why would you want to look elsewhere anyway??
Everyone may feel sad that the Plus range is coming to an end, but a lot of what drove that decision was beyond our control. The fact is that the way people use computers has changed rapidly - the hardware people bought and the way they acquire software. We had to look at emerging markets - iOS being a very big one. Continuing with the old software model would only have gone on so long anyway - the net result would likely have still been the end of the Plus range, but without Affinity to offer an alternative future.

Hilltop reacted to smadell in Luminosity Mask Visualization
I have previously posted 2 sets of luminosity based macro sets. The first set worked on Image and Pixel layers, and created Luminosity Selections that could then be used to create masks, adjustments, filters, etc. They can be found here:
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/27214-luminosity-masks/
The second set of macros was meant to be used directly on Adjustment and Live Filter layers. These applied luminosity based Blend Options to adjustment and filter layers, based on the Image or Pixel layer(s) below the adjustment. They can be found here:
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30523-luminosity-masks-for-adjustment-filter-layers/
Recently, a post from @danlhayes brought up the question of creating a greyscale representation of the luminosity selection. This would be similar to Option-clicking on a luminosity mask to see that mask in shades of grey. After (admittedly) quite a bit of trial and error, I’ve come up with a set of macros that will do just that. They are attached to this post.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
To use the Luminosity Visualization macros, you should do the following:
1) You need to start with a Pixel or an Image layer selected. An embedded Affinity Photo document also seems to work.
2) Click on the macro you would like to represent as a greyscale image.
3) The macro will create a new Pixel layer with the name “LuminosityVisualization” and put it on the top of your layer stack.
4) You can get rid of the LuminosityVisualization layer by clicking on the macro named “Delete Visualization Layer.”
As always, some caveats:
5) You should always delete a previously created LuminosityVisualization layer before creating another one.
6) When you create a LuminosityVisualization layer, it will be placed at the top of the layer stack (so that any other layers you have placed over your Image/Pixel layer don’t confuse the visualization). If you delete the LuminosityVisualization layer and want to create another one, be sure to choose your Image or Pixel layer again.
7) These macros were created using the same Blend Options curves that I used in creating the first two sets of macros. As such, they are meant to be used together with those macros, and not with luminosity selections that may be available from other users.
8) As always, I am one person with one computer. I believe that these macros will work as I’ve stated, but I cannot possibly have tested every possible combination of situations. No guarantees are made; use them if you like them!
9) If you like the macros, they are yours. They are a “thank you” to everyone for helping me learn, and a request to “pay it forward” with continued generosity.

Hilltop reacted to walt.farrell in Text Frame styles, not paragraph styles
You might try setting up an empty Text Frame with the properties you want, then selecting it, and from the Styles studio panel use the hamburger menu and "Add Style from Selection".
You should then be able to create another empty Text Frame and apply that Style to it.

Hi!
I want to share with you this small set of pencils.
Some of these tools feature Angle (Tilt) variance but you need a tablet that support it.
Don't have so much inspiration today to add some samples, but will do it for sure later
This set doesn't work on iPad because required settings are not yet there.
It will work with proper textures once the matching of iOS/Desktop version has been completed.
Hope you'll enjoy it!
Happy sketching!
UPDATE
Just uploaded a v1.1 with these two new pieces
Some things to know...
This new release works with MAS versions of Affinity range, but to have proper tilt dynamic latest Beta of AP or AD is needed.
Special thanks to Andy Somerfield for custom ramps...

Yes, you could consider the "?" as a tautology but my experience is that when you say "at a later date" it only triggers the question, "Do you know when?" I tried to answer the question before it was posed.

external dimensions 50x50 mm inner window 23×35 mm to the collection. This one is made in AD via vectors so you can scale it up/down as needed.

I leaved the mounted example image inside, so you can see where (which layer) to exchange it with your own placed images:

Hilltop reacted to v_kyr in Reusing filmstrips as photo borders
Here are some 35mm and 4x5 filmstrip templates which can be easily reused in AD/AP as photo borders, or for other sort of image presentations etc. - Each of these templates does contain always two (in past times) popular analog film brand looks, so you can switch between them through enabling/disabling layers, or modify/add your own additional ones. There is always also an indicated image place section, where you can mount your photos in.

Hilltop reacted to GarryP in Is there any reasoning behind the ordering of the Adjustments in Photo?
I’ve added a note to my original post as to my mistake in getting things mixed up a bit but I still think the menus needs to be more consistent. I don’t know how best they should be grouped/arranged as I don’t know enough to have any real opinion but some grouping seems like it might be beneficial.
It would also be nice if the menu items had their own little icons giving the user an idea of what they do, or maybe what the dialog looks like. I’ve attached some (very) crude samples.
On a related issue, can anyone tell me what makes an Adjustment different to a Filter and why something is one and not the other?
The Help gives me this:
“...adjustments which can be applied to your photo as a new layer for corrective or creative purposes”
“Filters can be applied to layers within your document for corrective or creative purposes”
It seems like adjustments are applied as new non-destructive layers onto an existing layer but filters are applied destructively to the original layer, but live filters seem to act like adjustments in that they are non-destructive. Is this the whole difference or have I missed something?
-
Hilltop reacted to GarryP in Is there any reasoning behind the ordering of the Adjustments in Photo?
I completely forgot about the Adjustments panel. I’ve not had enough time working in Photo yet. Thanks for pointing that out and reminding me.
So my question now changes to: “Can we have the Adjustment panel icons in the Adjustment menus?”
P.S. And maybe some icons for the Filters too, while we’re on with this?

Hilltop reacted to firstdefence in Gold coloured text
Unfortunately this cannot yet be saved as a style in it's entirety.
The help file describes styles as: Styles that can be applied to vector layers!! Why you would have a vector style panel in a raster based app and not have a raster style panel that is capable of saving raster styles that include texture images etc is a bit confusing to me.
The upshot of that is any images applied through live or destructive filters do not get included in the style, so you end up with half a style or less.
You could possibly create a macro that would apply these settings and bring in the texture image under the live lighting filter but as a style forget it.
Had a little play with making a macro, you can actually edit some of the settings by right clicking on the macro and choosing edit macro then change the adjustable settings and apply to your text or shape.

Use text-tool - select text and delete - then convert to curves and Divide then Boolean Add then Divide again to receive individual shapes you can colorise to your liking.
Cheers
