  1. Hi Jules. Download the Maori Keyboard. With the Maori keyboard selected type the tild ~ character then the appropriate vowel
  2. Many thanks for your replies. I guess that between all those working on the file, the Caption style has been altered by someone at some stage.
  3. I set up the Paragraph Styles in a "Template" document, with the Assets using the same Caption Style. When I form a new document from the "Template" I get this behaviour. I seem to have to set up the Assets in every new document to avoid the duplication of styles. We are using the Mac Desktop version of Affinity.
  4. I have created caption boxes with a specific paragraph style (Caption) which is also a style in the document. But when the asset is added to the document it forms a new paragraph style (Caption 1) and every time the Caption box asset is added thereafter it keeps adding a new style so that in the end I get a long list of new styles (Caption 1, Caption 2, Caption 3 etc) Is there any way around this?
  5. Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I couldn't get back to you straight away. Our Document Setup is CMYK/8 - I am not sure whether it should be set to Convert or Assign? Our normal practice is to convert all images to CMYK Tiff before placing them in the document. I did make a mistake, in that I thought I was dealing with a proof copy from the print house, but in fact it was from our own printer/copier! We are yet to get the proof from our Print House, and so hopefully we will get a better result. Many thanks
  6. I would appreciate help on this one. When we export our publication to a PDF, there is a noticeable flattening of the vibrancy of the image. Brightness is dulled and black is lightened. We are using the Coated FOGRA39 Colour Profile as recommended by our printer and Export to PDF Compatibility PDF/X-4 with Overprint Black, and Convert image colour spaces turned on. Even on our office printer here, the difference between printing straight from Affinity and then printing from Adobe Acrobat is quite noticeable, with the Adobe version much less vibrant, with bright colours less intense and the black less dark. Any advice would be welcome
  7. Many thanks for that. Mac doesn't have the Paste Special option, but I never thought of Placing the Document, which works fine.
  8. I have a large text which I have prepared in Word. It contains many Māori words which contain macrons (as shown). When I paste the text into Affinity Publisher, any word which contains a macron is displayed as a set of squares. The text style is set with a font which supports macrons, and by manually typing in the Māori word with a macron, the word displays without problem. How can I paste my text into Affinity without losing the words which contain macrons?
  9. I have been able to crop the size of the page in Adobe PDF Pro but I would like some way of determining the ultimate page size in Affinity, so I can keep our printer happy. The extra margin that Affinity seems to add to the PDF needs to be able to be modified according to need.
  10. I am having the same issue. We are trying to move from InDesign to Affinity. When I sent a test file to our printer, he complained about the size of the page: "The bleed size we normally get including the position of the crop marks is different from Affinity, so this means we cannot do a straight replacement of the previous pdf with the Affinity pdf as it imports it in a reduced size." We use a 5mm bleed. InDesign has 1cm between the edge of the page and the Crop Mark - Affinity has 1.8cm between the edge of the page and the crop mark thus increasing the overall page size to 23.6 cm as opposed to the InDesign page of 22.2 cm. This is a problem for the printer apparently. Any suggestions welcome Page Edge Crop Mark | <-----------> __| 1.8cm in Affinity 1 cm in InDesign
  11. My sincere apologies for not getting back to your sooner. The last few weeks have been frantic. It seems to be a printer specific problem too. The garbled text is produced on our large multi-function Kyocera Network printer, but printing to my little Epson Inkjet is fine. Please find attached the file and two pictures of the different results. I am sorry Callum, I missed your response, and can't get back to the Kyocera to test out other fonts. As I said before - the PDF exports without trouble, and prints from the Kyocera without the same problem. It is not a big problem for us, but I thought that it should be brought to your attention in case there was an issue. Example.afpub
  12. This is a little unusual. I have a Heading Style, which directly prints without problem from Publisher on one page, but the same style on another page prints out garbled text. However, if I convert the pages to PDF, there is no problem when printing out the PDF version. I have checked the Style of both pages, and there doesn't seem to be any extraneous additions from one page to the next. Exporting to PDF is the workaround, but I was wondering if anyone could make sense of it?
  13. I am able to export my document using the Export PDF Print preset. But when I try to export to the PDF/X-4 preset, the "calculating file size" dialogue never completes. When I Export I get an error message "An error occurred when exporting" - not very helpful! I have my document set up for Coated FOGRA39 Any ideas how to approach this? I have the latest version of Mac Affinity Publisher
  14. Another vote for more information about where the overtext can be found. Difficult in a magazine of 56 pages
  15. Congratulations on the launch of Publisher. It looks great, and I am excited to get to learn it. I presently use InDesign, and one feature I found very helpful was a plugin script called index-direct.jsx. By using this script, you could have a full list of the index topics in a separate document, and the script would go through the list and form an index for your main document. A thousand entries were completed in a matter of seconds. I am hoping that Affinity or a script writer will be able to provide a similar piece of software. Cheers.
