I'm pretty much convinced distortions, image trace and patter tools are features they are holding back to make people buy v2 (and possible v3). Not against them making money at all, they have to play their cards well cause these are single purchase software.

That is good to know its optional and also Affinity will continue to support offline mode of the tools. It is  one of the huge reasons I left Adobe and bought all the Affinity products in their place. As long as the online sign in stays as merely an extra option and has no impact on offline tool use I am ok with it.
I have more faith in Affinity than adobe, though I will admit I've seen similar things happen with like substance painter where they said they wouldn't remove perpetual licenses and do just that a year later backtracking their promises. So I will stay vigilant when it comes to any required log-in features for a program I bought that previously didn't use it before.

Many of us don't use Adobe for a reason.  Please don't use them as any sort of model of what Affinity should be doing.
I own multiple computers (a proud supporter of Affinity and strongly encourge anyone that has any remote interest in visual art of any form to jump on board and pay the very resaonble entry fee).  I appreciate the fact I'm not limited to just a couple installs for the machines I personally use (one at a time of course).

Arceom got a reaction from Petar Petrenko in Swatches Panel UI tweaks
Working with swatches I've observed these little additions would be very useful.

    Ability to...
1.- Select multiple swatches from color panel when no object is selected; so you can quickly delete, group, or move swatches between pallets.
2.- Delete selected swatches with keystroke.
3.- Create color groups inside a pallet, kind of like how groups are displayed in layers panel. This would help with organization and is more intuitive than jumping between pallets.
4.- UI visual aid to indicate if the color shown in stroke/fill is global, spot or overprint.
5.- UI visual aid to indicate if loaded in eyedroper is global, spot or overprint.
6.- Preview color chords before commiting them to the pallet.

    Other color-related suggestions:
1.- Apply global color to object when sampling  with eyedrop tool from an object with global color. Currently, when you copy the global color from another object, it is a non-global version of that color.
2.- Linked colors (as described in others posts).

    Status: Customer Beta
    Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Requirements: A valid product key (for Affinity Store purchases), or an installation of the full retail version from the Microsoft Store

As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents. We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post a new thread in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.

If you have a general question about the software, please head over to the Questions Forum, or if you have any suggestions, please head over to the Feature Requests forum.
    Fixes
Changed brush parameter shortcut from Alt+RightMouseButton to Ctrl+Alt (same as macOS) Added --legacy-wintab command line parameter, which will use low-precision mouse input and tablet pressure data (the same as previous Affinity versions). This is only for users of old tablets that don't report valid high precision input (e.g. Wacom Graphire). 1.8.4.674 release notes

    Status: Beta
    Purpose: Updates and Fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Publisher
    Windows Store: Not submitted
    Download: Download
    Auto-update: Not Available
    Hi,
We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.8.4.663 is now available as a download from the link above.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.3 version recently released to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Hi @mayfly
Stiff opposition or the like from a small core of forum users is quite normal here and I know for a fact that new users (customers) simply quit the forum because of it. I would be surprised if Serif didn’t care. They do.

I also know Serif do read forum posts here and thus also your legitimate concerns and good suggestions. So you have been heard. You just won’t get an official answer to your suggestions. You will get support though from their staff. Perhaps they will take your suggestions into account, perhaps not.
My personal advice to Serif for v2 of Photo is not new features but a complete usability overhaul. It really, really needs it.
Thank you for taking your time to share your thoughts. You are not alone. And as I said the right people in Nottingham will read your post.

    Hi All,
Unfortunately, we are hearing many stories from the creative community about how they are being severely impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know we can’t solve a lot of these problems, but we do want to try to offer as much support as possible.
That’s why we’re announcing three measures that we've just put in place. They are:
A new 90-day free trial of the Mac and Windows versions of the whole Affinity suite A 50% discount for those who would rather buy and keep the apps on Mac, Windows and iPad A pledge to engage more than 100 freelance creatives for work, spending the equivalent of our annual commissioning budget in the next three months (more details of this will be announced next week). The introduction of the 90-day free trial and deeply discounted pricing is done in the hope that this will make life a little easier for people who rely on creative software to make a living, but may be stuck at home without their usual tools, or for students who might not have access to their Affinity apps on their personal devices. In addition, by increasing our spend on commissioning work from freelancers we can also put some extra money into a part of the industry which will be particularly affected.
We plan to make the free trial and additional discount available until 20 April, but of course we will continue to review the situation as time goes on.
We have put posts on Facebook and Twitter about what we are doing if it's something you would like to share.
We're now all working from home
In terms of the team here, we have all vacated our Nottingham offices and are now working from home. Naturally this is causing us some disruption, but we continue to type code and expect to carry on making good progress with our development efforts.
Support is a bit trickier though. Firstly, we can’t accept inbound telephone calls right now, and there are also going to be challenges for our staff to work their normal full-time hours – especially with imminent school closures in the UK. We’re obviously going to do our very best but hope you will understand if we are not as fast to respond to email as usual.
Of course, if a question you have is something which could be answered by our community, then we’d also greatly appreciate if you put that here on the forum rather than contact us directly. It would definitely help us out a lot.
Frankly it’s hard to know what to say or do in this unprecedented situation. But more than anything else, we want to use this opportunity to wish good health to you and your loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
    All the very best,
    Ash

Arceom reacted to Raymondo in Gradients!!!
A short while ago during the beta version phase I posted a problem (again! as I've raised this before in the past) which AP has had since it's inception. You cannot get access to gradients in your colours palette within FX or anywhere else for that matter. I do wish Affinity would resolve this issue. It's frustrating having gradient lists and not being able to use them universally. Anyone on the dev team got any answers here please. I did hope this issue may have been resolved before releasing 1.8.2 but it's still there.
I like by the way the Affinity range is developing although, most improvements have been fixes and not development of further features.  Still, best get underlying operational issues out of the way first hey!. Looking forward to possible implementation of some missing features in the next 12 months or before that some of us have been highlighting such as being able to create true duotones/tritones, colour matching etc (although can do manually but time consuming) plus shape builder/pattern creation handling or something similar for AD. Implementation of PSD smart objects in AP a great move forward.

2.- Delete selected swatches with keystroke.

Arceom reacted to Alex_M in Make zooming work with CTRL+SPACE instead of SPACE+CTRL
For software to be usable and enjoyable, it must be intuitive. Therefore, it would be immensely useful for us to be able to zoom with CTRL+SPACE, instead of SPACE+CTRL. Our ingrained experience with PCs and our reflexes almost always leads us to press the CTRL button before any other button so pressing SPACE first is counter intuitive. I always copy a layer by mistake because I didn't follow the correct order which for some reason in Affinity Photo is SPACE first, CTRL second. There's no such problem in Photoshop. Making the user stop and think about the order of operations for such a simple task as zooming is poor user experience (UX) design IMHO. I hope this can be looked into and considered for the upcoming update.
