SusanB reacted to Smee Again in A Bunch Of Really Fungis --- "Before / After"
First image is the original image with only a small bit of sharpening, second is the same image after a bit of luminance masking and some HSL adjustments. Topped it off with a bit of dodging and burning. Not a great subject, but a good bit of practice now that I fixed the corruptied tablet drivers installed by Micro$loth's update about a year ago.
Thought my tablet just wouldn't work with affinity . . .  went to Huion and got latest drivers, turned off "Support TabletPC" which corrupted driver would not allow.. Works perfectly now.

CorelDraw has THE BEST warp text function around in a vector programs.
AD needs this desperately.... it is awesome!
After all you have it in AP. Even though it converts to a pixel layer.
You could do the same in A.D. by converting it to curves first then allow mesh warping.
Currently the easiest way I get around this is to use coreldraw
    Then copy/paste it into AD.
It is pasted as a CorelDraw object, but you can still use it as a vector object.

SusanB got a reaction from digital in 1.7.1 is soooo slowly
I just wanted to chime in that I have the same problem as shown in the video by sadeqi. When I run Pixel Persona, the problem disappears.

I'm running Windows 10, Intel i7 8700k, Nidvia GTX 1070 (8gb memory), 32 gb system memory. All running on a SSD drive.
My settings are on Auto but it doesn't matter which settings I use, they all act the same. I even turned down my undo limit to 105 to see if that would help but it didn't.

Project Brush Set 20 Pattern Brush Sets
Updated the brush set to version 2
    Changes/improvements as below
    Version 2.0
    1. Removed old versions redundant now..
    2. All nozzles are now vector based replacing previous raster versions (as much as possible)
    3. Replaced some of the older Base Patterns with some organics (set 04)
    4. The old brush set was appearing darker and less intense with 1.7/1.8 update...I have fixed that with this version!
    5. Updated the Sample sheets to latest layout (included ref to updated/new patterns).
    6. Organised the sets into groups of 30 (Group 01 x4)
    7. Added a generic set of brush Nozzles for texture variation (These are repeated across all sets)
    8. Included sample sheets of base patterns
    9. 19 new base textures
Archived the Older Brush set and updated Library information

Hey guys......so I was working on my new course...and got the the lesson on making brushes.....sooooo I had to amek some brushes.

I made a set of fog/ smoke brushes in raster and a set of silky smooth stroke brushes for your vector applications.

I have learned so much from the people on the site....I wanted to give back, so here ya go . I am working on new blog post and some new art using them....so I will keep you in the loop

Feedback on them is always appreciated, I love making these sorts of tools

SusanB - You can use symbols to get interesting symmetry with vector lines and shapes.
Not as intuitive as a dedicated tool, but very useful none the less.

I would love for Affinity Designer to have a seamless pattern tool similar to Illustrator where you can have different tiling options and the ability to move elements around. I design patterns for fabric and once Affinity Designer gets this function, I can finally ditch Illustrator. I am new to Affinity Designer so if there is a good option until that happens, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

    Hi,
You can create repeating patterns with the Art boards and symbols, this account: East Coast Charm on YouTube has lots of tutorials for Affinity Designer, on the Desktop and ipad doing repeat and drop repeat patterns, this is a useful one for the desktop: Create A Pattern Template In Affinity Designer

SusanB reacted to Terry44 in Feature Request: Add ability to lock and include Author info into PDF
I use Libre Office and in that application I have the ability to add pertinent information into the PDF itself so it can be read in the properties detail of the file when viewed from windows explorer -> properties.   I also have the ability to lock and password protect the PDF.   I understand that this is easily defeated and is not all that secure but I appreciate the ability to do this if and when I choose anyway.

In Publisher there is mention of "Security" but nothing is actually detailed about this in the help file and there is no UI access to any security features of any kind.  Which is confusing since the mention of new Security is in there but when clicking it goes to nothing related to security of any kind.

I would like to be able to include Author and other pertinent information within the saving options of PDF export as well as be given options to lock the file for changing, copying etc... just like Libre Office provides.  When I import the publisher created PDF into Libre Office the images and outline display different and image placeholder frames no longer contain the cropped image but instead shows the entire image with the outline of the image frame in the center of the image.  I am however allowed to secure and add information to the PDF and save it out but the layout is different.

Would be nice to include this ability in Publisher itself without need of 3rd party software, paid or free.

I fixed my problem by going to the performance options and choosing my GPU.
Under "Renderer" it says "Default (Nividia GTX 1070 or whatever your GPU is)". Select your GPU, not the "Default". You might need to restart the program. I also lowered my undo options to 105. Retina options are set to "Automatic".
    Hope this helps others!

SusanB reacted to ROYGBV in Symmetry Tool
Radial symmetry, &  mirror symmetry are 2 of the simplest symmetries. A professional level design program should allow design work in all 17 wall paper groups. Even free java applets (for example  2 versions of "Escher Sketch") on the internet can do this. And long ago plugins for photoshop (Terazzo & Kai's Power Tools) had a filter that allowed this with images, with a live preview. So although it sounds complicated good programmers do such things just for kicks. Later an overpriced, clunky plug in was made for A illustrator, that did this called "Symmetry Works". And now there is a consumer level app on ipad, for play purposes that also works with all the symmetry groups. (  http://science-to-touch.com/en/iOrnament.html  )  ( https://eschersket.ch/ and  http://levskaya.github.io/eschersketch/   and  http://skuld.bmsc.washington.edu/~merritt/bc530/local_copies/escher/ )
To make the program useful for whole other markets: textile designers, etc., this is an essential functionality. To differentiate Affinity designer from the rest of the pack, implementing this well, could easily  be another great step.

Please add to ADesigner something like the amazing Symmetry Tool from CorelDRAW (and Adobe illustrator), that allows to create all kinds of shapes and lines in a symmetrical pattern easley and instantly.
(In AD its only for "brushes" in the "pixel persona")

    Thanks.
