Aikinai reacted to webdove in Feature request: support for .HEIC files' HDR gain maps
I second this request. The documentation says "HEIF open 4 Includes depth map, loaded as second layer. Depth maps are upsampled." it should also say "HEIF open does not support the iphone gain maps that render the image in HDR" so we would all understand that for the moment the iphone HDR heic images cannot be properly opened with Afinity Photo 2.

I have an iPhone 13, which can take HDR photos but not in RAW format.
When I use the Panorama function in the built-in Camera app, the result is SDR and often distorted, so on my latest holidays I thought I'd take many photos planning to stitch them together afterwards somehow. I was happy to find AP has such a feature, and was quite happy with the results.
That is, until I imported the newly made panorama to my Photos app. It was SDR, which is IMO a significant reduction in quality and prevents me from replacing the multiple shots with the single panorama I wanted in the first place. Not knowing what the issue was, I posted on these forums trying to find out what was going on, if I was doing something wrong.
After some help from your staff and going down a rabbit hole that took me to discussions on Github and tools made with Python, I found out that 1) .HEIC files do have a HDR gain map encoded as an auxiliary image, and 2) an EXIF tag needs to be set for the gain map to display properly on Photos. And even though all of this was based on unofficial data, it seems that Apple is opening up on how to handle such HDR files, as shown in a WWDC video from this year.
Setting the EXIF tag is something I can rely on 3rd-party tools for, but there's nothing I can do to about the HDR gain maps outside AP; it has to support .HEIC HDR gain maps in order to make HDR panoramas from such photos. That feature alone would make AP a front-row companion to Photos to me.
Hope such support someday finds its way to AP.

Man kann es nicht glauben: Auch in der Version 2 wurde dieser Bug nicht behoben.
It's hard to believe: this bug has not been fixed in version 2 either.

Not trying to cause trouble, but at the top of page four of this very thread it's essentially been confirmed the security check is due to the embedded browser used in Affinity for the welcome/user screen.
Maybe those other apps justifiably need a full browser in them, maybe not. For Affinity it's certainly not central to the functionality.

I had the same issue, but it seems to be fixed in the latest beta (21C51).

The number of these bugs that seem would be easy to fix that have been open for years is seriously giving me pause on whether or not I should continue investing my time into Affinity.  Affinity should do a release of nothing but bug fixes to catch up at this point.  I've encountered more bugs than I have time to even report.  And the fact that reported bugs don't get fixed lowers my motivation to even do so.
Please make the features that already exist actually work.

    Hi @Bikr,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Thanks for your feedback. We are investigating these issues. Meanwhile, duplicate the Affinity Photo.app file, delete or the original app file to something else, then rename the duplicated app file (remove "copy" from its name) and launch the app. This seems to fix the slow start/bouncing until we find out what's causing the issue.

Aikinai reacted to LCamachoDesign in [1.9] Global Colours editor UI is missing
I was waiting for the actual 1.9 beta to come out before posting this, but since it doesn't look like it's coming any time soon, I might as well post it in advance. Even if work in the UI has already started, I still think it's relevant to post this. If for nothing else then to make sure you avoid doing the global colours editor UI in the same disastrous way Adobe did with Illustrator for the iPad released today.
To avoid the above you must understand one thing, the whole point of global colours is to finely tune the colours of our illustrations, in real time. This means you must see the colours change within the illustration as you tweak the swatch. As such you must do your best to avoid obscuring parts of the canvas, no full screen editors please.
Another point with these mockups is to create them reusing as much of the existing UI as possible, so the amount of work needed to create this is reduced. This is a critical feature that has been missing for way too long, let's not delay it any further by requesting unique UI elements just for it.
With that out of the way, let's get started.

    1. The first step in editing global colours is to actually have some.
For that you need to have a way to add them to the colour palette. A simple 'add global colour' entry on the existing flyout menu will do. The swatch will be further tweakable down the line, so this is enough or now.

    2. Now that global colour swatches exist, you must be able to apply them.
For that you'll need an indicator showing the swatch is applied, a simple blue circle around the swatch will do. This is the same colour as used in many other controls throughout the app. On the next point I'll show these swatches as a grid instead of a list.

    3. We must be able to apply global swatches to things beyond simple shapes.
Right now we're not able to apply any swatches, even regular ones, to things like layer effects. For global colours to be maximally effective this must change, we need a UI to select and apply swatches to things other than shapes. Here I'm showing how this would look when applying a global colour to a colour overlay layer effect.

    4. Now that global colours are applied, we need to edit them.
This is where I ran into a possible UI inconsistency issue. What makes sense to me would be to long press a swatch, choose 'Edit' from a popup, and be taken to a panel for that effect like shown in point 5. The thing is, I don't think there's any instance where a popup menu like this takes us to a subpanel? And like I said at the start, if I want to minimize UI changes in order to deliver this as fast as possible...

... so if the above is an issue, then another solution can be used. Instead of long pressing the swatch, we could instead head to the Colours panel and have it behave in a way similar to the desktop version. That is showing a tint slider with a button linking to the colour editor.

    5. Time to tweak the actual colour values
Independent of the design option chosen above, you'll end up on this panel to edit your global colour. You'll be able to tap the swatch name to change it, and more importantly change the colour values while you keep the canvas in sight at all time. Once you're done you can simple back out into other panels or tap away to close it.

Add... that's it. I'm open to take any feedback, and I'm sure the developers would like that too. However, remember that we must reuse as much of the UI as possible, so this critical feature can be delivered as soon as possible.
    Thanks!

"Select same" for me will be the best...
Please introduce select "all text objects", even if them are grouped or blocked.
That will increase the workflow for me when I have to convert text in curves.
    Thanks, great job!!!

Aikinai got a reaction from Nazario in how to Resize Document without "resample" image?
    Yes, exactly.
The situation is, you have an image and you want to print it at a certain size. In Photoshop, you would resize without resampling, specify the size you want, and you're done; the image is now the exact size you want without touching any pixels. In Affinity products, you have to resize without resampling, calculate current size ÷ desired size × current DPI and then set the DPI (which is also limited to integers so you can't even get exact sizes). Sure, that's possible, but why am I manually calculating ratios on behalf of a computer program? Especially if my workflow has me frequently printing images of arbitrary resolution at specific sizes.

This is still not fixed and it's incredibly frustrating. Of course I can calculate the DPI myself and force it, but that's ridiculous.
