Hello, Adobe Acrobat Pro (and not Reader) allows an icc profile to be selected to match media. Looking to test a different software that also allows icc profiles to be set. For some reason, my Affinity Publisher PDF output files do not export correctly for printing in Acrobat. Chunks of image are missing, and data outside the image area like the colour bars and file name printed at the top of the document do not render correctly in the print preview window. The text is broken and rough. Lines are not connecting. This is confirmed on 2 different computers. It is the same with both Adobe Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro. This does not happen when printing straight from a browser. I am using the same Epson printer dialog. The same paper settings etc, except I cannot set an icc profile. Besides Acrobat, is there a preferred PDF editing software for Affinity Publisher users that allows advanced printing features? Thanks in advance. RT

Hello again, This problem has returned as I continue to add more images. There is really no difference between the two graphic modes as described above. I feel this instability is caused by the Quadro GPU. One thing: Publisher recovers well. I rarely lose work. Regards, Ron

I can now confirm this incessant crashing arises from the DISPLAY settings in the BIOS. On Lenovo Thinkpad laptops with a Quadro graphic card (p2000) there is a DISPLAY setting to change between DISCRETE AND HYBRID. The correct setting for Affinity Publisher is Hybrid, as this relies on the Intel graphics processor, not than the NVIDIA Quadro GPU.

Hi Gabe, Thanks for getting back to me. I found the time to install Affinity Publisher on an older PC and it does not crash in Windows 7 x64, a very fast i7 with 16 gig. It freezes a lot as I scroll, but is completely stable in comparison. The document is 240 pages and in its present form contains 370 photos with more added every day. My new laptop, Xeon processor with Quadro graphics and 32 gig is much more pleasant to work with this load, despite the crashes. I guess I will wait for the next AP update. If I change the name of the image source directory, Affinity Publisher saves a low resolution placement image in the document. I can confirm that Affinity Publisher does not crash in this state as well. So the problem is located in the hardware / OS config. Regards

Hi stokerg, Please excuse the late reply. This colour anomaly was happening with RAW files from the same camera session. They were all exported from Lightroom at the same time with an sRGB profile. I have one layout that contains 49 images in a grid, taken all at the same event, and only the top seven images were being shown correctly and a few others, with most reversed (yellow is purple). This is not on screen in Publisher, only in a CYMK PDF. I needed to start proofing so stumbled on a quick fix. Enter Affinty Photo from within Publisher, and apply any filter with zero value (no change is made to the photo). (Sometimes the images can use a little correction anyway.) This corrects the color when outputting a CYMK PDF. I have an Epson 7880 printer which is profiled for a semi matte proofing paper. Screen colour to paper colour is identical. No problem in my own printing environment. What don’t I understand: When Affinity Photo correction filters are applied, the original file is not overwritten. So it is the PDF that is storing the adjustments to the original. (Or in this case, a ZERO-value filter). Fine, that works in my own setup, but how does this translate to real world commercial printing? I would think the original files need to be overwritten with ANY correction as a commercial printer may want to refer to the original files. I realize that even though my color management is configured correctly, it does not necessarily reflect how that same PDF colour will be printed by a commercial printer. Heaven forbid, the same anomaly occurs at that level. This is all still working with 16 bit images. I was also wondering if Publisher can compile all image files into a deliverable package, prepared for a commercial printer. Thanks for expressing interest in this matter.

Thinkpad P1: Working on a heavy image document. I have prepared all images to 100% at 300 dpi, so no extra load on GPU resizing images. Crashing occurs when scrolling the document. Just when a full screen layout is loading full screen, it crashes. This has happened every session. Xeon 2156m 32gig both WIN 10 1809 and 1903. System is fully updated.

Hello, Using Publisher, I have been testing PDF output (X-4) in a CYMK color space using 16 bit RGB images (sRGB profile) and not all of the photos render correctly. Some of my layouts are grids of 36 images, and over half will render with reversed colors (yellows are magenta). I cannot find any differences between the RGB files that convert correctly that those that don’t. If I convert those images to CYMK in PS, the colors of those images will render correctly. If I export as PDF/X-3 2003 they all render correctly. (This is RGB). What could be the difference within these 16bit sRGB Tiff files? They do originate from different cameras. That should not make a difference. If I convert to 8 bit, this seems to correct the problem. Conversely, for such dense image layouts, (36 and 49 per spread) perhaps I should convert to CYMK as an extra proofing fail safe? Thanks in advance for any advice. RT Simon

Hello, Thanks for your reply. I realize this limitation. However, I could produce these tri-pages in Scribus and supply them to my printer as separate PDF files. That was my original question. The way I understand it, spreads can only be placed into a book between signatures, so they are treated separately from the main PDF file anyway. Just looking for clarification from other experienced book designers on this topic. RTS

Hello Everyone, Purchased Publisher today hoping to upgrade from Scribus for a 260 page photo book project. I like the way the Publisher works with images as I remake each spread. Very precise. However I wanted to include several fold out pages for this book and just learned this is not possible. Is the best work around to create separate PDF files for each fold out? Does this make sense to anyone? Put in a blank page spread for each fold out in the main PDF. I believe some printers request fold outs delivered in this manner. Comments are welcome. RT Simon
