MY BOOKCOVER TUTORIAL IN THE AFFINITY WORKBOOK
My work in book cover design caught the attention of Serif (Nottingham) and one day I got mail. Whether I wanted to do a tutorial on book cover design for the new Affinity Photo Workbook, and of course, I was happy to be there. As an example, I have contributed a tutorial for the design of the book cover of a fictional novel (Search The Woods): From setting up the document to the actual design and exporting the print edition, all work steps are carefully described.https://www.bodobe.de/mein-tutorial-zur-buchcovergestaltung/

Very nicely done, Bodo! Did you consider drawing them without the black outlines, for a more ‘painterly’ feel?
Thank you, Alfred. No I have not. It's a question of style. I just interpret the motif in my own way (comic style with black outlines). I wouldn't like to recreate the original motif in Hopper's style because it doesn't make any sense to me;-)

Liz Taylor portrait (2014) with water-diluted acrylic paints and polychromos by Faber Castell, on paper. Even when I was (still) very young and knew nothing about women, she was the most beautiful woman in the world for me. Nothing has changed much. The films with her have accompanied my life and so she remains in my memory.

Here are some pre-made book covers (Affinity Photo). Sometimes ideas come and you can just start when the time is right.

I'm sorry, I didn't want to hurt you or attack you. I just wanted to post a picture and thought nothing of it.

It's not often you see her with a beard, must have caught her on a off day
You confuse beard with shadow. Should it be funny now? Haha ...

Deborah Ann "Debbie" Harry was / is the front woman of the band "Blondie" and is a part of the soundtrack of my life. Through the disco-like song "Heart of Glass" I became aware of the band at the time and bought the previous albums: Punk, Wave, New York. Next to Bowie, Debbie Harry was the Icon of my youth.

The white glow in his eyes makes you believe he's looking at you. But it's not like that. His eyes have wandered into his brain and he sees the unbelievable.

I must be a mutant then, as I find working with a mouse easier than with a stylus and pad. I have tried quite a few, the last one being the wacom bamboo but I always seem to gravitate back to using a mouse.
Perhaps it´s a case of what you are used to and feel comfortable with.Yes, everyone has their own way. I draw like on paper, so with a pen. That is the best way for me.

Do you use a graphic tablet or just the mouse?
Hi Slammer, of course a graphic tablet. The mouse is not well suited for drawing.
