It would be great to be able to make halftone color separations in Affinity Photo (or Designer, for that matter) for screenprinting. I just don't seem to be able to do it with A.P. :-(

Ok - I did a bit of cleaning up, because there are still doubles all over the place and do 2 Boolean subtraction on "A" and "R" to get the holes back.
Then Merge the tag and add 1 gradient + 1 shadow for fun:

For the first "F"; select and go Layer->Geometry->Divide. Seems you were Expanding Strokes at some point.

Good stuff. Out of curiosity, how would you undo expanded strokes or is this the only way? Also what are expanded strokes lol

Call->Divide then Boolean Add right after - the smaller shape will be swallowed by the larger one.
Expanding Stroke is e.g. important when exporting dynamic paths (pressure sensitive).

What works here is to draw each line with the pen tool and a thinner border width stroke than for the end result. After this select all and go Geometrie->Merge. Double that curve element and set back the original stroke width. Select the thinner one below in Layers panel and go context-click: Rasterize... With that layer active go into Pixel Persona mode - grab the Flood Fill tool and fill each element with colours or gradient or whatever. When done export to EPS and the result will be a mix of editable SVG paths with raster image fills - when you can live with that.

    Cheers

There is no way to Aquire the scanner into Design. You can do this in Affinity Photo, but it would be great to save this additional step by allowing Design to access the scanners.
    Thanks!

Not sure why you keep turning stuff on and off, but if a "reset to defaults" for the studio panels is what you want, there is a "Reset Studio" command at the bottom of View -> Studio that does exactly that.  If you just want to temporarily hide everything in the studio, tap the tab key on the keyboard.  To reset everything else, look in Preferences -> Miscellaneous.

Keyboard shortcut on the Mac is Command+0 (zero), suspect on Windoze might be Control+0 - should be able to look it up in View -> Zoom

In the Develop persona, you can use the White Balance Tool on the toolbar along the left.  In the Photo persona, add a "White Balance" adjustment from the Layers panel and there is a "Picker" button on the adjustment window.  You might also take a look at the "Auto Levels", "Auto White Balance", etc. buttons on the main toolbar across the top of the window.

photoadele reacted to tpf1952 in AP 1.7.1 slow performance when healing
I hadn’t ever noticed anything slow about Affinity Photo until after installing 1.7.1. When using healing brush I’m experiencing some serious delays between when I perform a brush stroke and when I see results. I’m actually experiencing this on both the Mac and IOS versions. Anyone experiencing the same? And if so, any suggestions to improve performance?
    My Mac: 2016, 15” Retina Macbook Pro,  2.9 GHz Core i7, 16GB, Raedon Pro 460 4 GB, 2tb SSD. OSX: 10.14.5
iPad: 2018 12.9” iPad Pro, 512 GB - OS up to date
Camera/files: Fuji GFX 50s, compressed raw
Noticing the performance lag when applying the healing brush to the base layer of the pair of layers created when invoking the frequency separation filter.
Sometimes the delay is as slow as a second; other time, several seconds. When trying to retouch a face, these kinds of delays can make post production of a single file a bit frustrating.
    Any suggestions most welcome.

photoadele reacted to Mandu in Pen Tool - connect to and close existing curves
Hello all. We have seen amazing, tremendeous designs done in Designer and Photo so far that shows that both of those are extraordinary, professional grade applications.
My suggestion is about conveninece of use rather than a new feature. When I click on the start/end point of already existing curve with a pen tool, I can continue drawing the curve without the need to previously select the start/end node with a node tool. I understand that not everyone may need this, but al least making it an option through an icon to turn it on/off.

Another suggestion is closing the curve when clicking on start/end point of already existing curve (by using pen tool). Right now this can be only achieved by using the join tool in the menu. I think this method is redundant and pen tool should be able to close already existing curves.
    Thank you.

The Smart Fill in CorelDRAW creates a new separate object, it's not linked to any other object or stroke.

Glicky, it's been forever since I used CorelDraw, and I am interested in a fill tool that works on shape intersections as well. So I ask, how would the flood fill affect intersections with strokes? Like in your third example, if you moved that middle object away after it was filled in, would the stroke then be part of that new fill?

Thanks for the idea, but when it comes to filling a lot of "holes" with colors, it will get difficult to end it up correctly. (see attached file)

I think that a "smart filler" is an important tool for A Designer. Great application should have "automated tools".

    Hi Anonymoustache,

You can find a tutorial on tracing in Affinity Designer below :)

I've never used designer or illustrator but I would like to learn. Affinity photo has been great and easy to progress through so I'm hoping designer may be as well. I thought about contracting it out, but I may need to do more as this project moves along.

My wife is opening a store and her brother hand drew a logo and we would like to create a digital copy of it. I'm imagining importing it into designer and tracing over the top to make clean lines so I can have a high resolution image of it. Before I buy, is there a tutorial, or maybe a set of tutorials I could watch so I can see how feasible this may be before I buy?
