  1. Good observation! That seems to be the trick! I tried multiple .ai files with no luck whereas SVG work just fine. Hopefully, this narrows down the options for a bug hunt.
  2. But there are countless of vector graphics from other authors, which work fine. I. e. try searching for "author:Clker-Free-Vector-Images". There seems to be some kind of (sub)format which either the API or Affinity doesn't support for importing via API.
  3. Simply said, the execution is a bit more difficult: Double the image of the floating body. Then mask the lower half of one of the bodies, apply a motion blur in the right direction (in this case - from top to bottom). Set layer mode (multiply or screen might work best in most cases) and adjust the opacity. Finally make sure the masked and blurred body layer is underneath the copy in original state.
  4. Exactly, Walt! On top of that, Adobe seems to shift slowly towards making PDF the primary format for Illustrator lately if you read between the lines in some of their statements. Also, Adobe's help is mentioning PDF as "native" file format for illustrator: Source
  5. Sure, if it'd be an ad in a glossy magazine. But for a facebook pic? Depending on a customer's budget, some final retouch on the original source's jpeg compression digital artifacts might be sufficient already. Even at doubled size. Putting a well-rendered mask onto a low-res background isn't really the best way to go either, is it? So you better go all in for the big budget, create a full 3D rendering of shield and a new high res background so it matches perfectly again... 🙄
  6. Try to underexpose the image by 0.5-1 step and take the picture as RAW format. With software like Affinity photo, you might be able to recover the flowers' true red colours without loosing details due to the red channel bleeded out the highlights. If you don't want to do too much post processing, buying a grey card/white balance card could be an option. Balancing the whites with that card next to the flowers and using the same settings for the true image could do the trick. That's a good idea anyways, such cards can be purchased for little money and are really useful in situations with "difficult" lights and colours.
  7. I'd also go with re-designing the plastic/glass shield in designer as vector shapes. Like so, with just little effort put into it. With more time invested into it (and higher resolution sources), the result could look way more realistic, tho.
  8. I second that. Where's the option for voting "Please, no changes"? Not saying, I'd pick that one, but without any such option the whole poll is completely useless as it's 100% biased towards a change - members could just chose what kind of change. Or, well, maybe it actually DOES reflect the majority's opinion already? Considering that there are only two votes as of now. Like, we could have 283 people already, who decided for not voting for either option given as they don't want any changes?
  9. The (for private use) free software XNview is also capable of showing .afphoto files' embedded preview. But the viewer shows an enlarged view of that as well. At least it stays within the program and doesn't start external apps for this. The enlarged view of the embedded preview usually is good enough for all tasks related to photo management (tagging, renaming, sorting etc.) If you work with international artists and photographers, the native support of unicode in filenames and/or meta data comes in handy. Works on various OS, 32bit as well as 64bit versions available. Disclaimer: This is not meant to be an advertising. I'm merely a user of this program. I neither have any connections to that software nor its developers beyond this.
  10. Hm. That's weird, I (on a Windows 10 system) get the original .ai file (see attached file) when downloading it via browser (Chrome), which opens just fine with Adobe Illustrator, the Affinity Apps as well as with Adobe Acrobat (XI) - latter without error when converting it into a PDF (see second file attached). That said, I also can not open the files directly in the Affinity apps. So that's not an issue with Mac based systems. But you might have found the reason for the problems already: Maybe the conversion of the original .ai into .ai.ps could be the problem? As the API might do the same conversions in the background - not only for Mac systems but also for Windows-based system. That could be something a developer, namely Serif in this case, could report to the developers of Pixabay. As that's something only latter could solve. scandia-5049165.ai scandia-5049165.ai.pdf
  11. But when you download the AI files from the website directly, they open perfectly in all three Affinity apps. Hence I am not sure if your assumption about the missing PDF stream is correct as I doubt Pixabay adds those streams when downloading AI-files. It doesn't seem to be a matter of the files themselves rather than with the API.
  12. Just in case, I think that original font is a variant of the Lithos family. It's Lithos Pro Black, slightly stretched. https://www.linotype.com/de/1181/lithos-schriftfamilie.html
  13. I don't know, why that happens either. But it helped filling the text black and remove (the colour on) the stroke instead of using no fill and a black stroke. Once the letters are filled and without stroke, all lines showed up in the print.
  14. You can set up printing as tiles in the print dialog. At least in the version for Windows. But it should be the same for Mac, I suppose. Just pick "Model: Tiled" under Layout settings in the lower half of that window. Also, you can adjust the overlap there, which prevents white borders when creating a big image out of several sheets.
  15. I hope you are aware about the fact that using at least the latter template for commercial use might get you in trouble? Did the person you've hired have permission of using the image? That image is copyrighted by the manufacturer, Bosch (you can find it in the download sections as wallpaper at bosch-pt.com). I instantly recognised it from some press releases of that business. If it's for commercial use and If I'd be you, I'd make sure that you are allowed to use the images in those templates. Or, at least, make sure the contract you have with the person you've paid for that templates, make him taking responsibility for copyright violations.
  17. More or less. As you never can know whether or not the designers of a forum made which parts of it traceable. Yes, one could find out by trial and error and just google it. Just like someone just could use a different software, which provides an UI which adopts to different environments. As I don't want either, I'm still using a software's native search over external tools as much as I'd prefer using a native solution for different workspaces rather than an external workaournd for the Affinity apps. Well, it's one thing adding new features and gimmicks with each major update, but a basic and simple (believe me, it's simple, I used to developed various software projects for central markets in Germany) tweak for the UI is something, which shouldn't be on a "dynamic" roadmap for years at all. (Assuming it is on that list at all, read below.) In particular if it's a requirement for professional use—which competitors know for years. Having a feature like different workspaces for different situations went through decades of development in countless of applications by now. Why do you think, saving custom workspaces got implemented into so many professional software (not just in graphics and design) over the years? Just for fun? Affinity seemed to aim for getting the "professionals" away from competitors' software as well. And it's essential to mimic their workflow in regards of use of a program as close as possible. Ignoring things like this, but implementing new features for drawing and designing only isn't the right was on the long road for this. But I start to believe, that ignoring this request just might be intentional. As there are less professional users who would like to see this feature than casual/tablet/iPad users paying for the suite and/or its standalone applications. Hence, the developers just follow the (easy) money. Which isn't bad - it's actually, what a business is for. It's a decision made, and we'll have to live with that. Obviously. The focus clearly is on the majority of users who just use a single device and never switch the environment. Understandable, as said, from a business' point of view. But if one wants to become more or less standard one day in a sector which is so massively obsessed by one global player right now, one cannot ignore such developments which emerged from years of usage in other programs—one either has to implement or to improve them.
  18. Thanks! I used the search of the fora, which gave a gazillion hits, but none on the first couple of pages. Using google instead of a native search shouldn't actually give better results. And I have to admit, I'd never have thought of using external services for something, which a forum software should do better natively. But looking at the results, it's even worse! How can a business, which is aiming to pull people away from other professional software suites, ignore such a basic requirement for nowadays systems for such a long time? With more and more people working in office and home office, visiting customers etc.? Not only since the current corona crisis, BTW. It's not like such a feature would require a lot of programming as it needs just some save/backup/restore management for a couple of configuration files (hence, a workaround with a bat-file is even available in these forums). Kinda disappointing that one either has to spend time for a setup each time one changes the working environment or deal with external workarounds as solution.
  19. I've searched the forums for this request, but only found it mentioned in other suggestions/comments - not as a standalone feature request. If it exists, I'm sorry four double posting this issue. But I think it's a long overdue feature for the whole suite. I'm using all three affinity apps on a high-end laptop. That said, I'm working with 1-3 monitors, depending on the location I'm at (home, travel, customers etc.). Hence, I use different setups for which panels I have open at the same time, and where I've placed them (i. e. on separate monitors in order to maximise the canvas space. So, it's really annoying that I have to (re-)arrange my panels every time I switch my location I'm currently working at. This is a repetitive and tedious work. It's seriously annoying, hence I'm requesting for an option to save different workspaces for a quick, easy and convenient way to setup each app of the suite for different situations currently given.
  20. Stef7x, if it's about i. e. finding the same filters, fx etc. in the German version as advised in the tutorials, you might want to switch your applications' language to English instead. At least temporarily so you can follow the instructions and learn how to apply them. Since there are lot more tutorials to be found in English rather than in our native tongue, it might be more convenient using the application with an English UI in order to follow tutorials easily.
  21. I hope I'm allowed to add some critism/advice to your work. You should add some margin/space to the text in the blue-ish box on the second page. Writing texts to the very border of a box is a no-go unless it's some more or less "fancy" design thing (i. e. on modern posters/flyers etc.). And I'd remove the page numbers unless there are some plans to expand the work to some kind of brochure one day. Page numbers are useful, if you use an index so people could find the stuff they are searching for more easily. (Or in books, so people can brag with the amount of pages they read...)
  22. Actually, it may be helpful to mention Adobe as often as possible. Because new users may google for Adobe and end up in here—not being aware that there's such a great alternative for most of their tasks to do.
  23. Such layouts are definitely not a job for Photo, but for Publisher (in conjunction with Photo and/or Designer). Even Designer would be a better choice than Photo for creating such Posters.
