Font Packs
Andy05 replied to Fotographer's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
As Walt said, I quoted the relevant part. If your client edits the pdf—or gives it to a different designer for editing, it's not covered by the license. Also, "copyright trolling" is a thing nowadays. Unfortunately. Using "free fonts" (or photos/graphics!) for commercial works could become a problem. It's not very likely that you'll be a victim of that, but it's a problem people should be aware of nonetheless. -

Yeah, that's the problem, as i. e. the "Euphorigenic" font is free for commercial use according to the website's description. But if you read the license which is in the ZIP file you download, there are paragraphs like So, theoretically, you cannot give a flyer design to your client with the font embedded to it. In 99.99% of all cases, no-one will care. But the remaining 0.01% could hit you and could get more expensive than buying a font with a license which covers your purpose completely. -

Though probably unpopular in these fora, Adobe Fonts are professional and come with a a "worry free" licence for unlimited, world-wide commercial use. But there are quite a lot of alternatives. I. e. Fontspring By "worry free" I mean you can just use the fonts for your projects, without having to worry about the licenses' limitations at all. A problem, which lots of (even professional) creators might not know of, is that some fonts might be allowed for "commercial use", but also limit amount of items you could sell with that font used (books, mugs, t-shirts etc.). Some fonts charge extra, if you exceed those limits. -
Nasty! I'm torn between being overly grateful for your brushes and "Heck! He again edited/added some!!!11!!!". 'cause latter often causes lack of sleep for me as I just forget about time when testing/using them! Seriously, tho. A huge thank you for sharing these brushes!

Start at lower priortity
Andy05 replied to TEcHNOpls's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
You're asking for an option in the settings which isn't commonly used by most of the major apps. Probably for a reason? Such special demands shouldn't be dealt with by the app's developer, but the user. Why don't you use one of the countless tools one could find, which deal with setting priorities permanently for your programs? As that's what they are for. Like Affinity apps are made for working with them exclusively, hence not in low(er) priority. Or you simply create a shortcut to the app you want to use and add the adequate starting parameters (like "/abovenormal" or "/belownormal") to them. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/start -

So, did you ask the developers of your streaming software and/or discord to set their apps to maximum priority already? If not, why not? On a serious note: working on an photo editing app is usually the main task for a user. Streaming and discord not so much. That's why professional streaming studios use dedicated hardware for it (i. e. if they plan to stream tutorials). Or they - like you - have to setup priorities manually. Streaming your work isn't Affinity Photo App's main purpose. The main purpose is working with it, preferably with high(est) priority in order to allow a fluid workflow. -
If the pixel layers have transparent backgrounds and/or are clipped with vector shapes, this would work: Either create a new layer and place the whole illustrations into it or group all elements of the illustration. Add a layer effect to the layer/group you made -> Outline.

The only option I can think of would be physically moving the document into a different location/folder then try to open it from the open recent menu. An error-pop up will appear which will allow you to remove the item from the menu. But that's similar to most (if not all) programs. I don't know any program which lets you manage the open recent menu.

DPI don't matter if you define your image's size in pixels. A digitally stored image has no inherent physical dimensions like inches. 1000x1000 pixels is 1000x1000 pixels - no matter what DPI setting you want to set. DPI is for print and Facebook doesn't care about that setting for displaying images. Unfortunately, even "professional" programs often use this term wrongly. Displays have pixels, not dots per Inch. So 1000 pixels are shown 1000 pixels wide (at 100% scale) regardless if you "set the DPI" to 300 or 72 (or whatever other value). What matters is a device's PPI (Pixels per Inch), which will have an effect of how big the image is actually shown on your device.

If the option "Fit to printable" doesn't show up in your AP print dialog, it might be the manufacturer of your printer, who can't provide a proper driver. I just need to select the size of the paper and activate said option. That works for me even without knowing much about rocket science (neither does it feel vintage). It's actually almost exactly the same procedure which I have to do in Adobe's programs.

100% agree. If you publish something like a roadmap, you need to be sure that you can fulfil its points pretty close to the announced schedule. I also agree, that we need more clarity about ADesigners's direction. The whole idea of mixing vector and pixel is a decent idea (personas), if you need to edit small things in either format. But for a more professional approach, it'd be better to keep each app focused on either vector or pixel. Those borders seem to get too fluid. I can understand that there's more focus on AP, tho. As I can see that the market for working with images is way bigger than for the use of an app dealing with vectors.

You judged about the value of @Jowday's post, who added multiple times more content to the topic than your remark about it. So, you seem to think your posts (or mine in this issue) added more value to this topic? If not, why did you feel the urge to comment about (some debatable) off-topics by being (clearly) way more off-topic yourself? You showed some messed up double standards here, I think.

Did you even read the post in question? Obviously not, as it does add something to the threat's topic (in contrast to the back and forth discussion about "which posts add what" which I've unfortunately also got drawn into now). Furthermore, there are moderators around in these fora. It's within their discretion to decide, which posts should get deleted/warned/commented on/whatever due to being off-topic. Not mine, not Pšenda's and also—not yours. It's as simple as that, really!
